A prolonged cold in an adult without fever, how to treat it? How to treat a runny nose without fever

The flu usually causes a high fever, but there are other viral infections that occur without fever.

Causes of colds without fever

A cold without fever is a sign of strong immunity

Colds or acute respiratory viral infections are most often observed in the cold season, as well as during the off-season, when the weather changes dramatically. Against the background of hypothermia, malaise, weakness, and increased body temperature appear.

A cold develops when rhinoviruses enter the body, which actively multiply on the mucous membrane of the nasopharynx. Further development inflammatory process in the upper respiratory tract.

There are several reasons for the development of a cold without a sign of fever:

An increase in temperature during a cold is a reaction of the immune system to the effects of viruses on the human body. As a result, antibodies are produced and an inflammatory reaction develops. Colds manifest differently in each person. With weak immunity, the body cannot fight viruses.

If there is no temperature, this may indicate not only a mild, but also a serious course of the disease.

Decreased immunity can be observed with HIV infection, cancer, chronic diseases, etc. In this case, the cold occurs without fever. The immune system is unable to protect the body from pathogenic microorganisms. At the same time, a person experiences severe weakness and symptoms of intoxication.

Clinical signs

Additional symptoms colds - runny nose, sore throat and cough

The latent period of a cold lasts 2-3 days. The main symptom of a cold without fever is a runny nose.

The patient feels unwell, has a sore throat, itchy nose, but has no fever. In the first days, watery discharge appears from the nose. transparent discharge, which thicken and turn green over time.

Later, a runny nose is accompanied by a cough, which, if prolonged, can lead to the development of tracheitis, bronchitis or laryngitis. At first it is dry, and then a small amount of sputum is released.

Usually a cold goes away on its own without complications within a week.

Symptoms of a cold without fever occur in both children and adults. However, in most cases the temperature rises in children, especially young ones. This is explained by the fact that the child’s body is still developing, and the increase in temperature is a kind of reaction of the immune system.

Drug treatment: types of drugs and use

Only a doctor can prescribe effective treatment for a cold.

When you have a cold, you should drink as much liquid as possible: clean water, compotes, fruit drinks, etc. This way you can quickly remove viruses from the body.

Even if there is no fever, but other symptoms are present, it is necessary to consult a doctor about the use of antiviral drugs, as well as drugs to enhance immunity.

The following drugs are prescribed:

This is just part medicines, which are directed against viruses. They are used not only for the treatment, but also for the prevention of respiratory diseases.

  • For a wet cough, use Pertussin, Ambroxol, Lazolvan, Bromhexine, etc. If you suffer from a dry cough, then take Sinekod, Glaucine, etc.
  • A sore throat and sore throat can be eliminated using lozenges, sprays, etc. From tablets you can take Septolete, Faringosept, Grammidin, etc. To eliminate sore throat and sore throat in children, it is recommended to use sprays and aerosols: Miramistin, Kameton, Lugol, Hexoral, Ingalipt, etc.
  • To ease breathing during nasal congestion, nasal drops are used: Nazivin, Otrivin, Ximelin, etc. These vasoconstrictor drops can not use long time, as addiction is possible. To avoid this, the duration of treatment with such drugs should be no more than 5 days.
  • At home, you can do nasal rinsing using preparations based on sea water: Aqua Maris, Aqualor, Dolphin, etc.
  • As an addition to the treatment of colds without fever, you can take vitamin preparations: Complivit, Undevit, Hexavit, etc.

Antibiotic treatment: pros and cons

When you have a cold, it is forbidden to use antibiotics, since the body will not fight the infection on its own and perform protective function. Colds are caused by viruses, and antibiotics have no effect on them. Suitable for in this case use of antiviral drugs. If 5-6 days after taking medications antiviral action The patient's condition worsens, this may indicate a bacterial infection. In this case, it is prescribed antibacterial drugs.

Against the background of a cold or flu, complications such as bronchitis are often observed, purulent sore throat, pneumonia. Treatment of these serious illnesses carried out using antibiotics.

Antibacterial drugs wide range actions affect almost all pathogenic microorganisms. To choose the right antibiotic for treatment, bacteriological research sputum. As a result, pathogenic bacteria and sensitivity to antibiotics are identified.

Video about how to treat colds using traditional methods:

For colds, penicillins (Amoxiclav, Augmentin, Ampiox, etc.), cephalosporins (Ceftriaxone, Cefazolin, Cefotaxime, etc.), macrolides (Clarithromycin, Azithromycin, etc.) can be prescribed. If the patient’s condition has returned to normal 2-3 days after taking antibiotics, then they cannot be discontinued, since some bacteria may not die and, as a result, sensitivity to pathogens decreases.

It is prohibited to use antibiotics on your own, since any medicine has adverse reactions and contraindications.

Thus, the course of the disease can be aggravated. During pregnancy, the use of antibiotics for colds is strictly prohibited, since the risk of developing congenital pathologies in the fetus is quite high. This should be remembered by women during lactation. The active substance enters the baby's body along with milk.

For colds in children and adults, antibacterial drugs should be prescribed only by a doctor, taking into account the patient’s condition, age, accompanying illnesses.

Colds without fever during pregnancy

Safe treatment for colds during pregnancy

During pregnancy, colds without fever are quite common. This is due to a decrease in immunity, due to which susceptibility to various infections and diseases increases significantly.

Colds for a pregnant woman last a long time and are difficult. The body does not produce enough protective cells. Colds can harm the fetus, especially during the first trimester of pregnancy. It is during this period that it is strictly forbidden to take medications, as the laying of all organs occurs.

In the second trimester, a cold is not as dangerous as in the first. The child is almost formed, but colds can negatively affect the development of the endocrine, nervous and reproductive systems. Cold on later pregnancy can provoke premature birth, and infection of the fetus is also possible during the prenatal period.

Treatment of colds without fever during pregnancy should be carried out under the supervision of a specialist in order to prevent the development of possible complications.

During pregnancy, Paracetamol can be used as a pain reliever and only with a doctor's prescription. Taking medications on your own is strictly prohibited.

You can speed up your recovery with folk remedies: inhale the vapors of garlic or onions, drink tea with lemon and honey, gargle and put drops in your nose Kalanchoe juice or aloe. These are harmless methods that will not harm the child. Decoctions and infusions should not be taken orally, as some herbs can negatively affect the development of the fetus.

Colds without fever in infants and children

In children under one year of age, coughing without a runny nose or fever is normal. Thus, infants cleanse accumulated dust and mucus that has entered the bronchi and respiratory tract.

A severe runny nose and cough in a child, but without fever, indicates a cold. When foreign bacteria enter, the immune system begins to fight them. Unlike a bacterial infection, when the temperature rises immediately, the fever may not appear for a long time and the body temperature remains normal.

A viral infection can be accompanied by a bacterial one. If you do not start timely treatment of a cold, this can lead to the development of pharyngitis, laryngitis, nasopharyngitis, and tonsillitis. In more serious cases may cause the development of bronchitis, tracheitis or pneumonia.

However, the signs of a cold in the form of a runny nose and cough may not always indicate a cold.

Such symptoms may indicate the development of an allergy. It is in many ways similar to colds, but still has some differences. The cough with allergies is always dry, there is mucous discharge from the nose, lacrimation and redness of the skin are also observed.

It is important to be able to distinguish allergies from colds, since if instead of antiallergic drugs you give your child antiviral drugs, this will lead to serious complications. It is prohibited to independently treat small children for colds. Only a pediatrician can prescribe the correct treatment, taking into account the child’s condition.

I never have a fever when I have a cold. It turns out that the reason for everything is my weak immunity, although I don’t have chronic diseases. I will look into this issue. Interesting!

I have already forgotten the last time I had a fever with a cold. It usually starts with a runny nose and sore throat. I immediately drink a lot of tea with lemon, eat garlic or onions. For a runny nose - drops.

If there is no fever, but there are symptoms of a cold, then I treat myself with traditional methods, drinking tea with lemon several times a day with a bite of honey. I rinse my nose with an aerosol sea water, for example, Humer, and for coughs I drink licorice root syrup and the cold goes away quickly.

I try to use folk remedies myself. The maximum I can afford to enhance the effect is Influcid. But only as an addition to drink and honey. I have been receiving this treatment for several years now and so far I am completely satisfied with everything.

Inga, the doctor just prescribed these antiviral pills for us. I don’t trust traditional methods of treatment and if the first symptoms appear, I go to the doctor. I took influcid according to the instructions and effectively relieved fever and chills, aching joints, and headaches. I also added gargling and nasal rinsing to the treatment. sea salt.

In general, I’m not in a hurry with antibiotics; I immediately take Esberitox to ease the symptoms of a cold and help my immune system. Usually, acute respiratory infections are mild and do not torment me, without fever or headache.

It is easy for me to catch colds due to the fact that my immune system is weakened. But despite this, my temperature rarely rises. More often than not, everything is accompanied by a profuse cough, sore throat, sore throat, etc. I try not to take antibiotics.

I rarely have colds and other concomitant diseases accompanied by fever, so sometimes I notice them no longer in the initial stage. The only antibiotic I took was Arbidol, but now I’m trying to be treated more with folk remedies.

07/11/2017 at 20:55 | #

If a cold is not accompanied by an increase in body temperature, then I never take pills, much less antibiotics. In this case, the body can cope on its own, and we can only help it with this exclusively using folk remedies.

08/16/2017 at 21:05 | #

Antibiotics are only used as a last resort, I just don’t see the point in burdening the body. It's better to do prevention. Morenasal immunospray helps me; it contains peptides that strengthen the immune system. I spray it twice a day and almost never get sick.

The last time the doctor recommended that I supplement my ARVI therapy with Lykopid, an immunomodulator latest generation(at that time I had already visited the doctor for the third time in two months with severe colds). A pleasant surprise was then an easy and problem-free recovery. Now, drinking Likopid in courses intermittently, I don’t even remember about colds

09/12/2017 at 20:26 | #

I don’t think you should immediately rush for antibiotics. Morenasal immunospray helps me out. I spray it in the morning and evening, and I feel great, I even get sick less often. It contains peptides, which help strengthen local immunity.

I always treat colds according to the symptoms. If there is a runny nose, I rinse my nose with saline solution and drop vasoconstrictor drops; I have a sore throat; I use lozenges and sprays to treat a sore throat. I rarely use antibiotics. Their use for uncomplicated colds is not justified.

Garlic is of course great if you are not at work)))) It’s easier for me to take some kind of pill. I really liked Ingavirin - there are no complicated courses of administration - just one capsule a day and no problems. Now we all drink it and there are no problems with sick leave!

Colds without fever: what to drink and how to treat a runny nose

Does it elevated temperature a mandatory symptom of the flu - a question that interests many patients. You can often hear from colleagues, acquaintances or relatives: “I always get sick without a fever.”

This does not mean chronic diseases, but seasonal colds. Is this possible and why does the disease sometimes occur without fever?

Flu enough insidious disease, fraught with numerous complications, therefore at the first symptoms you need to start treating it. If treatment is delayed, you will have to spend much more time and money to get rid of the disease.

The fact that the temperature has not increased does not mean that the disease is not developing and its other manifestations can be ignored.

Flu in Lately is a very common disease, so almost everyone can immediately recognize its symptoms. If weakness, cough, runny nose occurs, but the temperature does not rise, the patient, as a rule, diagnoses himself with a cold.

However, the upper respiratory tract can also be affected by a virus - it is not so easy to treat.

Why does illness occur without fever?

The causative agent of influenza is always a virus. Rhinoviruses are considered the most active. A virus of this type penetrates into the mucous membrane of the nasopharynx and begins to multiply there intensively. After just a short period of time a person feels characteristic symptoms colds – weakness, headache, lack of appetite, dry cough and sore throat.

For what reason does a cold without fever occur most often in the cold season? The answer is simple. Some people believe that the flu virus is seasonal. This is not entirely true. At low temperatures, blood vessels constrict, metabolic processes slow down a bit.

Mucus, which is the natural protection of the nasopharynx from contact with microorganisms, is produced in smaller quantities. The nasopharynx becomes vulnerable, and therefore the person begins to get sick.

Another reason is decreased immunity during the cold season. A favorable environment is created for bacteria and viruses in such climatic conditions. If a cold develops without fever, this indicates that the immune system The body is able to neutralize the virus without the participation of the hypothalamus.

The hypothalamus is responsible for producing antibodies if a virus enters the body. At the same time, the body temperature always rises.

If this does not happen, it means that the hypothalamus was not involved and the body copes with the disease on its own. Of course he needs help.

But in this case it is not necessary to use potent medications - folk remedies that strengthen the immune system are sufficient.

Symptoms of a cold without fever

A cold without fever manifests itself somewhat differently than common flu. Symptoms are often mistaken for normal fatigue, and treatment begins with a significant delay. This leads to the development persistent cold, which often causes unpleasant complications.

The incubation period lasts no more than three days. Then the person begins to feel discomfort in the nasopharynx. Coughing, sneezing, and runny nose occur. The temperature does not always rise. Typical symptoms flu:

  • Watery nasal discharge, which after a few days becomes thicker and takes on a greenish tint4
  • Sore throat;
  • The cough is dry at first, turning into a wet cough after two or three days.

If there are no complications and the adult does not have a fever, the problem goes away on its own within a week. Symptoms such as cough or runny nose without fever may persist for several weeks. Often such a virus transforms into chronic pharyngitis, bronchitis or tracheitis.

Colds without fever can also occur during pregnancy. Colds without fever are much less common in young children. The child’s body is not yet fully formed, his immune system is not as strong as that of adults, so the virus usually manifests itself acutely, with all the accompanying symptoms.

If a child does not have a fever, but has a cough or runny nose, be sure to consult a doctor and begin treatment to prevent the transition common cold in bronchitis, laryngitis or sinusitis.

In most cases, the cause of illness is the influenza virus; it is not difficult to diagnose it, even if there is no fever.

How to treat a virus

The description of influenza and methods of its treatment were outlined in medical reference books Middle Ages. But, nevertheless, a truly effective cure for the virus has not been found to this day. Treatment consists of eliminating symptoms and relieving general condition sick.

If you have a cold without fever, there is no point in taking antibiotics - viruses are resistant to medications in this group. It is better to drink tea with lemon, honey, ginger or raspberries. Treatment is carried out mainly with folk remedies, rather than with medications.

Good for flu hot bath for feet with mustard powder, after which the feet should be rubbed with vodka or turpentine-based ointment, put on woolen socks and lie down under a blanket. But this treatment is not suitable for women carrying a child. It is better for them to drink a warm rosehip decoction and wrap a scarf around their neck if their throat hurts.

In general, when you have the flu you should always drink a lot:

  1. Ideally - decoctions and infusions medicinal herbs.
  2. Sage, chamomile, and lemon balm are good for eliminating cough, weakness, and sore throat.
  3. Do not rush to take pharmaceutical medications.
  4. A sore throat, pain, swelling and redness is best eliminated by inhalation.

Inhalations are done with an infusion of pine buds, eucalyptus, or a solution of soda and iodine. The procedure must be carried out twice a day: morning and evening.

But you should not inhale immediately before going outside - such treatment will not be effective.

What else can you drink if you have a cough with the flu without fever?

Known helps home remedy from very severe coughwarm milk with soda or alkaline mineral water(for example, Borjomi).

So, if you have a cold, it is best to drink warmed milk with butter and honey. The drink should be taken in small sips so that the discharge of mucus in the larynx is not inhibited.

If a patient with a cold without fever feels unwell, weakness occurs, and discomfort in the nasopharynx bothers him, it is not necessary to take powders and tablets. Rinsing will improve your well-being.

The most effective solutions are salt, soda and iodine or furatsilin. Chamomile also relieves inflammation of the mucous membranes and helps reduce pain. You need to gargle at least five times a day.

You can also take this home remedy internally:

  1. You need to squeeze the juice of one lemon and combine it with 100 grams. natural honey. You need to take the mixture twice a day, two teaspoons.
  2. You can cure a runny nose with drops of root juice. Freshly squeezed beet and carrot juice are taken in equal proportions and a little honey is added. Place five drops of this mixture in each nostril two to three times a day.

All these remedies will be very useful during pregnancy, when it is undesirable to take medications so as not to harm the baby. If we really accept pharmaceutical products, then preference is given to cough syrups and mixtures for plant based. You can also take tablets with an expectorant effect - mucaltin or tusuprex.

Severe nasal congestion is relieved with vasoconstrictor drops– nazivin, naphthyzin, sanorin. But such drugs cannot be used more than 2-3 times a day, especially when treating children.

And finally, in the video in this article, a specialist will tell you what to do when you have a cold and how to treat it correctly.

Lack of temperature is more bad than good. This means that the immune system is very weakened to resist viruses. Whenever I have a cold, I immediately try to take Influcid. It activates the production of interferon and allows the immune system to defeat the disease itself. And very quickly.

The only indication for taking antibiotics is not temperature, but the presence of a bacterial (sore throat, pneumonia, etc.) infection. And they are taken only as prescribed by a doctor. And for the treatment of flu without complications, Influcid is completely enough for me. Three or four days and I’m in perfect health. The main thing is not to delay in order to avoid the same complications.

Yes, a cold is an unpleasant thing. And now the weather is so terrible. I recently caught a cold and immediately started sniffling. I started washing it, on the advice of the ENT specialist, with morenasal spray with chamomile. It relieves inflammation and clears the nose well; colds went away easier with it.

weakness, runny nose, temperature, no treatment

There can be flu without a fever, or maybe a severe ARVI! Either the body does not fight the virus, or the virus is like that. In any case, it is necessary to be treated, this is the insidiousness of the virus, that the absence of fever does not make it any easier. It is better to take Reaferon-Lipint at the beginning of a viral infection; it will significantly ease its course.

16. Guest | 04/20/2013, 03:02:15

The same! It’s been like this for a long time, it doesn’t last longer than one day, it starts suddenly out of the blue, usually in the evening. No fever, no runny nose, just some strange weakness and difficulty breathing. I already checked my kidneys, I thought it was some kind of intoxication - no. And I was treated for Giardia - I thought it was from them. No. So what should we think about? Could it be from an allergy? Or is it related to some kind of brain disorder? Or with the liver? Just fucked up. And you can’t say that there’s some kind of disease, and you can’t really explain such garbage to a doctor. Dumb((

17. Vitaly | 08.10.2013, 17:11:54

I can’t come to my senses for the fourth day! All the same symptoms: heavy head, sore eyes, sore throat, runny nose. but no temperature. First time like this! I drank all sorts of anti-virus products (my wife put me on something) Today it seems to be easier. If this is a virus, then it becomes scary! I had been sick very rarely before this, but now it was suddenly cut off and not at all like before.

And I’ve been sick the same way for four days now - without fever. For two days I lay flat and had no strength, but now it seems to be easier. all the symptoms except her cough, runny nose, extraordinary weakness, barely a sick leave!

A runny nose during pregnancy without fever, despite its apparent frivolity, is a dangerous disease that must be dealt with immediately. Children are also susceptible increased risk the occurrence of nasopharyngeal diseases due to their unformed immunity.

The chance of catching the virus increases in the cold months of the year - it is believed that this is due to the structural features of microorganisms.

There is also a point of view that frequent infections are due to the fact that in cold weather the blood circulation in the mucous membrane is restructured. Mucus is not produced in quantities sufficient to trap pathogens entering the body and remove them out.

During the winter months, the immune system weakens. Lack of vitamins and hypothermia affect her barrier function. Shaped elements blood cells responsible for fighting infection cannot produce enough antibodies. All this leads to an acceleration of the spread of the pathogen in the body.

The latest theory about why viruses run rampant in cold weather is very simple. Since it’s cold outside, people tend to quickly enter buildings, the air in which is simply teeming with pathogenic viruses and bacteria transmitted by airborne droplets.

Regardless of the cause of your infection, the treatment methods are the same. If you are suffering from a runny nose and headache without fever, you need to immediately begin eliminating the symptoms with one of the proven folk or pharmacy remedies.

Symptoms of a cold

Virus incubation lasts about 3 days. The first symptoms appear: runny nose and sore throat without fever, headache, cough, weakness. Arises unpleasant feeling in the throat, which very quickly turns into pain, often quite severe. At the same time, a significant increase temperature indicators may not be observed.

After a couple of days, nasal discharge becomes purulent in nature - this is the removal of dead viruses and cells that died in the fight against them from the body. The cough, which is dry at first, begins to include some phlegm.

A runny nose, cough, weakness without fever can be quite dangerous, as this means that the immune system is not strong enough to fully resist the infection.

Treatment should be started immediately to avoid further complications such as sinusitis or bronchitis.

A runny nose during pregnancy without fever occurs with all the above-mentioned symptoms. But you need to take it even more seriously; consultation with a specialist is necessary for timely treatment without complications.

Treatment of a runny nose

The issue of treating colds arose in ancient times, but the optimal remedy has not yet been found that would completely overcome this disease. A runny nose, cough, weakness without fever can be cured, because these are just symptoms of a viral infection.

The virus itself is very difficult to overcome; often all efforts made are aimed at helping the immune system fight it. It is also recommended to support the body's barrier function with the help of vitamins and herbal decoctions containing substances beneficial to the immune system.

There are many folk remedies that help get rid of the symptoms of the disease in adults. Most of them are very effective as they consist of natural ingredients.

For a sore throat, inhalation of the following infusion will help:

  • take pine buds, sage leaf, teaspoon baking soda, mineral water;
  • put on the stove and heat without bringing to a boil;
  • remove, drain some water;
  • inhale the vapors, covering your head with a towel.

You can also gargle various solutions. Among them:

  • infusion of sage and chamomile;
  • salt, iodine and soda dissolved in heated water;
  • a mixture of water and apple cider vinegar(2 tablespoons per glass of water);
  • furatsilin and hydrogen peroxide (1 teaspoon per 200 ml of water).

If you are a follower pharmaceutical drugs, the following tools will help you:

Before using them, you should read the instructions and contraindications for use in detail. It would also be helpful to get advice from a doctor who will prescribe treatment in accordance with the symptoms of the disease.

Timely treatment will protect you from complications and help you return to normal life.

Treatment of colds in pregnant women

During pregnancy, you should avoid taking any pharmaceutical medications due to the high risk of various fetal defects. Chemical substances contained in medicines have many side effects, the study of which has not yet been completed.

Therefore, if during pregnancy you have a runny nose, weakness, or no fever, you should seek help from a centuries-old folk wisdom. Traditional methods are very effective and have fewer side effects compared to drugs based on artificial chemical compounds.

However, before using any folk remedies, you should consult a doctor for advice. He will tell you which methods should be excluded. This is, for example, the use of alcohol tinctures, herbs that often cause allergies, and so on.

Very effective means is ordinary horseradish. If you have a runny nose, sore throat, or no fever, use a product containing this plant.

Simple folk recipe with horseradish:

  • take the root of the plant, grind it in a meat grinder;
  • mix with May honey in a 1:1 ratio;
  • put the resulting product in a warm place for 24 hours;
  • take 1 tablespoon up to 10 times a day.

If you have a runny nose, headache, or no fever, take an inhalation of chamomile and sage. This method will help get rid of irritation of the mucous membranes and relieve headaches with the help of the calming effect of chamomile. This remedy is also very good because chamomile is practically hypoallergenic.

  • Boil several potatoes without removing the skin;
  • add a spoonful of sage and chamomile to the water;
  • drain the water, leaving a little at the bottom of the pan;
  • inhale the healing vapors, covering yourself with a towel.

Regular tea with honey and lemon will also be an effective remedy for colds during pregnancy. Honey will soften a cough, relieve a sore throat, and normalize the mucous membrane of the pharynx. This useful product will not only eliminate symptoms, but also enrich the body necessary vitamins and microelements.

Treatment of children

A runny nose and sneezing without fever in a child should be eliminated immediately. First, you need to clear the nasal cavity of mucus by blowing your nose or pumping it out using a special tube or a small rubber bulb.

Saline solution can be used to clear secretions from the airways. It is easy to find in any pharmacy, but you can make it at home - just add a teaspoon of salt to 1 liter of warm water. Apply a couple of drops every half hour, this will cleanse posterior sections nasal cavity.

The child needs to be given water green tea with raspberries or dried fruit compote. You can relieve swelling of the mucous membrane in various ways vasoconstrictor drugs. But they should be used no longer than 4-5 days.

Respiratory diseases are often mild, we can hardly bear them on our feet, but they can also cause anxiety. Firstly, the absence of temperature does not always mean that the disease is harmless, and secondly, the absence of this symptom is often misleading, and we are in no hurry to discuss a serious illness with a professional physician.

Why does a cold develop without fever?

A cold in the common people, and ARVI in the medical literature, is a state of malaise that usually occurs against the background general hypothermia. We can freeze both in winter and in summer in a draft. This is even more likely during the so-called off-season - early spring or late autumn - when the weather changes sharply and unpredictably, and it is not always possible to choose a wardrobe accordingly.

However, it is easy to notice that one person will freeze and will not even rush to warm up upon arriving home, but will not get sick with a cold. Another will only get a little chilled, steam in the bathroom and drink hot tea, but still get a cold. What does this depend on? This is explained by the fact that hypothermia is only a trigger for a cold; it activates other unfavorable factors colds. Among the latest:

  • damage to the body by pathogenic microflora- the number of viruses that can cause a cold reaches several hundred; among them are completely harmless, but also the flu; in some organs and tissues of the body affected by viruses become favorable environment for the reproduction and active functioning of bacterial and fungal microflora;
  • weak immunity- formed under the influence of many factors, congenital features, the presence or absence of chronic and systemic diseases, certain predispositions to disease and perceptions of adverse weather conditions;
  • exacerbation of chronic conditions- weakened so-called target organs are most susceptible to colds, for example, chronically enlarged tonsils, the mucous membrane of the nasal sinuses susceptible to viruses;
  • weakened intestines- the state of general immunity depends on the function of the gastrointestinal tract; If digestive tract, for example, is weakened by taking antibiotics or dysbiosis has developed here for other reasons, the likelihood of a cold in the off-season increases;
  • psycho-emotional tension, stress- psychological instability and constant worries are the basis psychosomatic disorders, probability colds is also increasing.

The characteristics of a cold are very individual for each person. Depending on the role of each of the above factors, a cold can manifest itself as a sore throat, runny nose, and increased body temperature. However, for some reason, it is the increase in temperature that attracts special attention to the malaise. Agree, we are more likely to get a cold with a sore throat on our feet than a runny nose accompanied by a fever. A cough may cause some concern, but only a cough with a fever will suggest bronchitis or pneumonia.

Medical statistics claim that people are much more frivolous about colds without fever, but this is only partly true.

Whether or not a rise in temperature occurs depends on the following:

  • Type of cold pathogen. Influenza strains almost never infect the body in such a way that a fever does not appear. In addition to the flu, from the hundreds of viruses known to medical science, there are many that are quite aggressive. It depends on which one enters the body whether the human immune system will respond to it with an increase in temperature.
  • Immunity status. Temperature appears to be a specific immune response to pathogenic effect virus on the body; The production of antibodies or an inflammatory response is normally accompanied by an increase in temperature. However, some people's immunity is weak enough to fight some viruses, which means there may be cases where the absence of fever means not a mild, but a very dangerous virus and a lack of immune response to it.
  • Impact of medications. Modern pharmacology offers a wide variety of cold remedies that destroy not so much the virus itself or strengthen the immune system, but the manifestations of a cold, including fever. These are usually powders containing, among other things, paracetamol and ascorbic acid. The amount of the latter does not always allow one to strengthen the immune system sufficiently for the body to overcome the infection, but the amount of paracetamol is lethal. This means that there will be no trace left of the temperature.

How does a cold occur without fever?

Cold without fever in its course it still remains a cold. This is a respiratory viral disease, which means that all its symptoms will be localized in the nasopharynx with the risk of spreading to the upper respiratory tract.

From the moment of contact with the virus from the environment to the first symptoms colds without fever It usually takes 2-3 days. The first signs are discomfort in the nose and throat. The throat is sore, the person sneezes and experiences discomfort and itching in the sinuses. Nasal discharge is watery and profuse. After only a few days they become more slimy and thick, sometimes even mixed with pus and blood.

Interestingly, it is the presence of a runny nose that becomes a sure sign of a cold - with or without fever. According to medical statistics, 40% of patients experience a sore or sore throat, and a cough subsequently develops in 60% of cases.

As for cough, when cold without fever it is quite possible. The only nuance is that such a cough is superficial and dry. It occurs more likely due to a sore throat than due to the spread of infection into the trachea and bronchi. At the same time, with a weakened immune system or in the absence adequate assistance your body remains at risk of infection spreading deeper into the body. In this case, an increase in body temperature is more likely, but not at all necessary. Therapists point out that many clinical cases bronchitis and even pneumonia occur without high body temperature.

Cold without fever, like any acute respiratory viral infection, body aches are not typical, muscle pain. If they develop, they are accompanied by a significant increase in body temperature, and mean a very difficult infection - influenza.

As it becomes clear, a cold without fever is characterized by very mild symptoms, which should stop within short time. If the symptoms of ARVI do not go away within 5-7 days, or if they worsen, then complications have probably occurred:

  • from the throat - laryngitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis,
  • from the nasal sinuses - sinusitis, rhinitis, sinusitis,
  • from the bronchopulmonary system - tracheitis, bronchitis, pneumonia.

Each of them may or may not be accompanied by an increase in body temperature, but requires treatment for professional help To family doctor or doctor narrow specialization(otorhinolaryngologist, pulmonologist).

How dangerous is a cold without fever?

Cold without fever in most cases, it really does not pose a significant danger to the body. The absence of fever in these cases is explained by the non-aggressiveness of the virus that has entered the body and sufficient immunity to overcome it.

However, there are also more unfavorable models for the development of the situation:

  • Specific immune response. Normally, body temperature rises in response to the penetration and reproduction of the virus on the mucous membranes of the nasopharynx and upper respiratory tract. Individual feature The body shows a lack of temperature not only for non-aggressive viruses, but also for dangerous bacteria. For example, a person observes swollen and suppurating tonsils with a sore throat, but there is no temperature; or non-temperature pneumonia. Such conditions are more dangerous than a cold without fever, but you need to follow the following pattern - if your temperature does not rise with inflammatory diseases nasopharynx and upper respiratory tract, it is unlikely to occur with a cold. Treatment is still necessary, you just need to focus on other symptoms.
  • Not a cold at all. Sore throat, cough, general weakness and no fever. You may choose to ignore any of these symptoms, but the danger is that you don't ignore them. a simple cold, and for example, herpes infection, allergies or even tuberculosis. Any deviation in health from the norm should be observed by the person himself for a certain period, and if the symptom(s) persist, it would be useful to consult a doctor. Even if there is no temperature.
  • Risk of complications. Cold without fever it is very easy to ignore it, not to attach importance to it, but such a course clinical picture does not mean that the disease is harmless. There remains such an equal risk of developing inflammatory and purulent lesions nasopharynx and respiratory tract, a general blow to the immune system, as with the classic cold.

Treatment of colds without fever

When we feel unwell, but the thermometer shows normal body temperature, we tend to ignore changes in well-being. This is very untrue.

A consultation with a doctor is indicated for a person who has been experiencing cold symptoms without fever for a long period of time (a week or more). You can try to overcome the virus on your own if a runny nose, sore throat or cough is just developing. If the self-medication method is chosen correctly, the immune system is strong enough, and the virus is relatively non-aggressive, after 5-7 days from colds without fever and there will be no trace left. Moreover, that same high temperature should not develop. The addition of this to other symptoms against the background of self-selected treatment means its ineffectiveness. It is recommended to contact a professional.

For treatment colds without fever apply:

  • home mode;
  • heat + Fresh air And wet cleaning premises;
  • maximum rest and minimum stress;
  • taking antiviral and immunostrengthening drugs;
  • the use of folk remedies - teas from medicinal herbs (raspberry, viburnum, linden), compresses, mustard plasters, etc.

It is believed that the absence of high temperature during colds indicates strong immunity. But this does not mean that you should rely solely on own strength body and do nothing additional. Doctors' advice will tell you how to treat a cold.

First of all, the disease hits the nasal mucosa and gradually goes down. Early treatment will stop the disease and prevent the development of complications. A cold without fever is dangerous because not everyone takes it seriously, while an untreated acute respiratory infection can lead to serious complications.

If there are complicating factors, the cold will also help pass without fever. A similar phenomenon is observed in some chronic diseases, tumor processes, and HIV infection. That is why you should not neglect malaise, aching bones and nasal congestion, even if there is no fever.

How to shorten the recovery period can be understood based on accompanying symptoms. Therapy is carried out taking into account the specifics of the disease. If there is a sore throat, then means are used to prevent and treat tonsillitis. For a runny nose and nasal congestion, vasoconstrictor drops are indicated. And of course special meaning is given to enhance immune defense.

Reasons for lack of temperature

Colds usually develop during hypothermia. Temperature changes, wet cold winds, drafts and running air conditioners - all this can trigger the disease. Colds don't always go away easily. Sometimes a fever is a lesser evil than a protracted and exhausting illness without fever.

Illness with normal or even low temperature may occur against the background of another chronic disease. In some cases, low temperature indicates sharp decline immunity that is unable to fight infection. Doctors believe that an increase in temperature allows the body to cope with the disease on its own, but without a temperature there is a risk of developing a serious illness.

Typically, acute respiratory infections manifest themselves with rhinitis and sore throat. At the first signs of illness, treatment should be started immediately. Traditional methods of treatment will tell you how to treat it. Warming up, inhalations, mustard plasters are exactly what can be used during illness in the absence of fever.

Folk remedies

Scroll therapeutic methods for acute respiratory infections without fever is much broader than treatment methods for fever. At high temperatures, methods involving heating are prohibited. Good results give steam inhalations using sea salt, soda, iodine and essential oils. Inhale through the mouth, exhale through the nose. Such procedures help stop the spread of infection and restore the function of the upper respiratory tract.

Few people know how to be treated without resorting to pharmaceutical drugs. Rubbing with herbal balms and ointments based on essential oils will provide benefits. Usually rubbed chest, temporal zone, earlobes. Also The following remedies are recommended to strengthen the immune system::

  • Rosehip decoction is a universal drug that helps replenish vitamin C deficiency, improves vascular function, normalizes lymph flow and prevents the development of complications. Rosehip decoction can be taken by children from 1.5-2 years old, as well as by women during pregnancy. A teaspoon of honey will help enhance the healing properties of rosehip decoction;
  • fruit and berry juices - during illness, drinking plenty of fluids is of great importance. But drink plain water or tea is not as healthy as fruit and berry juices enriched with vitamins and antioxidants. Fruit drinks and compotes made from cranberries, black currants, and raspberries are especially effective in treating colds;
  • echinacea – widely known remedy, which is offered in various forms. You can brew echinacea tea, or you can take it in the form of tablets or syrup. Echinacea is included in many drugs with an immunostimulating effect;
  • Linden tea – perfectly improves immunity, improves performance and eliminates ailments. Linden tea with lemon and honey helps cope with colds without fever at any stage,
  • solution with sea salt - helps relieve swelling of the nasal mucosa and stops a runny nose. Nasal rinsing is recommended for both therapeutic and preventive purposes. The method helps maintain patency of the nasal passages and effectively clears mucus from the nose.

For acute respiratory viral infections, antiviral drugs are recommended and prescribed by a doctor. Self-medication may lead to decreased effectiveness drug therapy and the transition of the disease to chronic form. It is strictly forbidden to use antibacterial drugs, since they are ineffective against a viral infection and only undermine the immune system.

Medications

Drug treatment recommended when traditional methods are ineffective or radical therapy is required. To combat viral infection, drugs such as Arbidol and Amiksin are recommended. They stimulate the immune system and destroy infection in an extremely short time. Derinat drops are used to prevent colds. They can be used from birth, they are safe and non-addictive. WITH for preventive purposes You can also use Imunoflazid and Lavomac. Many antiviral agents have a mild effect and cope well with the infection.

For a sore throat and cough, medications such as “Sinekod” and “Glaucin” help. “Bromhexin”, “Lazolvan” and “Pertussin” will cope with a wet cough. For a sore throat, lozenges based on herbal ingredients. You can make your own syrup for coughs and sore throats using a strong decoction of sage and honey. Do you use it to make syrup? glasses of honey, a tablespoon of sage leaves, 2 tbsp. l. water and a teaspoon lemon juice. All ingredients are mixed and brought to a boil. This tool It is not inferior in effectiveness to pharmaceutical formulations and allows you to quickly eliminate signs of inflammation of the upper respiratory tract.

Vitamin therapy deserves special attention. Of course, the first remedy on the list of immunostimulants remains ascorbic acid. But it alone is not enough to maintain health. It is recommended to take multivitamins containing:

  • Vitamin A – promotes recovery epithelial cells, improves the condition of mucous membranes;
  • thiamine – has a positive effect on the condition of the upper respiratory tract;
  • riboflavin – improves the production of antibodies during colds;
  • nicotinic acid – improves blood circulation, has an antiviral effect.

All these vitamins can also be obtained through food. To do this you need to include in daily diet spinach, white cabbage, cottage cheese, almonds, red pepper, green onions, pineapples, lettuce.

The common cold is a disease of the upper respiratory tract that is caused by viruses. It is believed that if a person has strong immunity, then such a disease will occur without fever. This happens especially often in adults. If children's body immediately reacts to a viral infection with a fever, then an adult body with an already established and more or less strong immune response may not react at all to a cold with a fever.

Maybe for this reason questions arise, such as what medicines to take for a cold without fever? After all, most medications contain antipyretics, which are not required in this case. But everything is in order. Let's first consider the symptoms of a cold without an increase in body temperature.

Symptoms of the disease

A cold without fever usually proceeds the same way as with an increase in temperature:

  • unpleasant aches in the joints;
  • accumulation of mucus in the nose, runny nose;
  • coughing as a result of sore throat;
  • general weakness and malaise.

The incubation period for viral infections of the upper respiratory tract is up to two days. Therefore, symptoms may appear gradually. At first, a cold may begin with just a slight malaise, and later a runny nose and sore throat will appear.

Approach to treating colds

The first thing you need to remember is that viruses are eliminated from the body by drinking plenty of fluids. Therefore, you need to drink a lot, teas with honey, lemon, herbs, fruit drinks, and just water.

Whether it is worth taking pills for a cold without fever is up to you and your doctor to decide, based on the general condition of the body. After all, it happens that there is no temperature, but the condition is very bad, there is no strength to get up, there is severe aching throughout the body. In such cases, it is better to help the body cope with the virus. Perfect for:

  • Imunoflazid;
  • Lavomak;
  • Arbidol;
  • Tamiflu and others.

Modern pharmacology offers a wide range of medicines aimed at fighting viruses. Almost all powders that are aimed at destroying the virus and increasing the body's immunity contain paracetamol, which is not necessary to take for a cold without fever. But on the other hand, aspirin in medications helps the body cope with the virus.

For colds without fever, you can take medications that increase general immunity and make it possible to quickly overcome a viral infection.

Causes

Fever is a protective reaction of the body that occurs in response to the invasion of a pathogen. It is a classic and expected sign infectious process, a reflection of the viability of the immune system. And there is no doubt whether it is good or bad if a cold occurs without fever - there can be only one answer.

Colds are a large group of acute respiratory infections viral and bacterial etiology. Despite the name, hypothermia may not be a precipitating factor. For the disease to occur, contact with a person sick with ARVI or bacterial infection transmitted by airborne droplets. But with a “true cold,” there is a history of exposure to low temperature, and deterioration in well-being is often caused by activation of the endogenous microbial flora.

Why is there no fever when you have a cold? It is impossible to name a single reason that would be equally true in all cases. There are several background factors:

It should be noted that exhaustion and immunodeficiency cannot and should not be considered as unconditional justifications for the course of a cold without fever in a child or adult.

There are many examples of diseases of infectious etiology, accompanied by various types of febrile reactions in these conditions.

We must also not forget that not all cases of infection are noticed by a person - slight malaise, headache and quickly passing weakness are perceived as consequences of overwork. If pathological symptoms become somewhat brighter, the presence of fever confirms the diagnosis, and the absence makes you wonder: is it a cold? Thus, fever can be considered a symptom of the classical course, which does not negate the likelihood of maintaining normal body temperature during a cold.

Symptoms

Even if there is no fever, others are observed - no less significant than elevated body temperature. These include:

  • runny nose;
  • sneezing;
  • weakness;
  • dizziness;
  • sore throat;
  • a sore throat;
  • cough.

It is their appearance that forces the patient to measure the temperature, since its level is used to judge the severity of the disease and its presence in general. The cough is not necessarily pronounced, in the form of painful attacks. It can be dry and persistent, manifested by coughing, which in most cases is explained by the drainage of nasal secretions and irritation of the pharyngeal mucosa.

In acute laryngitis (inflammation of the mucous membrane of the larynx), the increase in temperature, as a rule, reaches only subfebrile values, although febrile indicators are also possible. In many adult patients, isolated laryngitis occurs without fever. The disease often occurs after general or local hypothermia and is characterized by:

  • dryness and sore throat;
  • coarsening and then hoarseness of the voice;
  • cough with viscous mucous sputum.

Symptoms of a cold without fever are no less a compelling reason to visit a doctor than any other illness accompanied by fever. The atypical nature of the course of the infectious process requires a careful assessment of all components of the clinical picture.

Treatment

How to treat a cold without fever? Medicines designed to eliminate or reduce the manifestations of any symptoms: runny nose, cough, fever. If the body temperature remains normal, there is no need for antipyretic drugs.

None of the fever-fighting medications have an antiviral or antibacterial effect—antipyretics are intended for symptomatic treatment only.

To treat a cold without fever you need:

  1. Humidify the air in the room to make it cool. Optimum temperature – 18–19 °C, humidity – 50–70%.
  2. Dress the patient warmly and give fluids frequently. Suitable drinks are warm tea (maybe with lemon), dried fruit compote, mineral water. Even with normal temperature The body needs to ensure that a sufficient amount of fluid enters the body. In cool, humid air, provided you drink plenty of fluids, the mucous membranes do not dry out and the removal of sputum is facilitated.
  1. Watch your diet - exclude spicy foods, hot and carbonated drinks, and alcohol.
  2. Provide rest good sleep, no excessive physical activity. This will help the patient cope with the disease more easily and recover faster.

If you have a runny nose, you can rinse your nose saline solutions. As prescribed by the doctor, vasoconstrictor drops (Nazin, Sanorin), mucolytics (ambroxol, acetylcysteine) are used.

Inhalations of alkaline mineral waters, glucocorticosteroids, and mucolytics may be indicated. Sprays (Ingalipt), oral tablets (Faryngosept, Decathylene), and antihistamines (cetirizine) are also used. In some cases, antitussive drugs (sinecod) are required.
