How to whiten teeth: whitening with toothpaste and other means. White pencil - white teeth! Apple cider vinegar and baking soda

First, we need to remind you that any problem has a consequence and causes, here the consequence is yellow teeth with gray tint, and the reason is the products you eat. Strong black tea and coffee can destroy your enamel, and cola works in much the same way. Have you noticed that your teeth begin to grind after drinking coffee or cola? Tooth enamel becomes soft and then wears off. Teeth darken due to smoking, but this does not stop smokers and forces them to buy toothpastes with fluoride and soda, but is this effective? You can completely destroy the enamel with the help of such pastes, and then spend money first on installing ten fillings, and then on whitening. Whitening is not recommended for people with weak enamel.

Basic methods of teeth whitening at home

As a rule, ordinary toothpaste with baking soda does not give the desired results, so yellow and gray stains remain on the teeth. But not all people can do whitening with special compounds in dental clinics; it is not cheap, and the effect is still unstable. You can experiment, for example, buy at the pharmacy all kinds of gels and mouth balms that protect the enamel and at the same time whiten it, but if you do not know the color of your teeth and the thinness of the enamel, you can harm it. What are the most effective natural remedies?

  • Baking soda - used in folk medicine for many diseases, including for cosmetic purposes. As a rule, baking soda can improve the color of teeth and lighten it several shades, but as dentists say, you need to be very careful. The fact is that soda has a very negative effect on tooth enamel; to put it simply, it erases upper layer enamel, therefore makes the teeth bright white, but after a while the color of the teeth becomes the same. You can whiten with soda and toothpaste; apply a little paste and soda to your brush, then brush your teeth as usual. This is done mainly due to intolerance to the taste of soda, since it is very salty, if you are not squeamish - brush your teeth only with soda, the effect of this will be much better.

  • Hydrogen peroxide is often used in the treatment of diseases, especially for cosmetic purposes. Peroxide is ideal for teeth whitening, but you need to be very careful because it can burn your gums. You need to use it every day for two weeks to see results. Rinse your mouth after brushing your teeth every day, but to increase safety, it is better to wipe your teeth with cotton pads. Under no circumstances should you hold the census in your mouth for more than 5 seconds; not only your gums will be damaged, but your entire oral cavity will be damaged. You should not swallow peroxide; use it after bleaching. warm water and rinse your mouth. There is usually a burning sensation and severe pain in the teeth after the procedure, fortunately, it is worth it because the teeth become white and attractive in 10-14 days.

  • Strawberry – Many have heard that there is toothpaste with the addition of strawberry juice, and chewing gum with strawberries whitens teeth, this is due to the natural whitening elements contained in the berry. Take one medium strawberry and cut it, then wipe the enamel with the berry. There is another way: crush a few strawberries and make a paste, and then brush your teeth with a hard brush and strawberries. It is advisable to clean your teeth with a toothpaste containing sugar immediately after whitening, this will enhance the effect.

  • Wood ash - of course, many will not believe it, but ash can really whiten teeth. The composition contains potassium hydroxide, which helps to whiten even old plaque that cannot be bleached with soda and hydrogen peroxide. But due to the fact that solid grains of ash dehydrate the enamel over time, it cannot be used too often, otherwise the enamel will have to be built up. If you wish, you can mix toothpaste and ash on a toothbrush; this will not increase the effect, but brushing your teeth is much more convenient and familiar.

  • A mixture of several bleaches - mix plain toothpaste, baking soda, sea salt and hydrogen peroxide, then brush your teeth with this mixture. You can use regular toothpaste in the morning and whitening toothpaste in the evening.

Teeth Whitening Strips

Surely you have repeatedly seen advertisements for miraculous whitening strips, which make your teeth white and beautiful in just a few uses. These are thin strips on which a gel with certain ingredients is applied. Using them is very simple - stick one strip on the upper row of teeth and the second on the lower row after brushing your teeth, you need to keep the strips on your teeth for about 20-30 minutes.   • You don’t have to go to the doctor and pay money for a consultation; the strips have no serious limitations;

  • The strips do not thin tooth enamel or wear it off, which reduces the risk of caries and other complications;

  • The color of your teeth will not change after a few days; it lasts for a long time and depends on your diet. Of course, if you overuse tea and coffee, your teeth will turn yellow faster.

Today, the most popular strips are produced by Crest and are called White Strips. Glue the strips according to the same principle, both on the top and on the lower teeth. You need to hold the strips for 25-30 minutes; if discomfort occurs, remove them immediately. The whitening course is five days. Nevertheless, we decided to prepare instructions for using the strips so that you do not have any questions about their use.

See video instructions for more details. Canol explains that all components have unique properties, extremely beneficial for dental health. Turmeric is natural antibiotic, the main property of which is the destruction of bacteria, coconut oil helps fight tooth decay, and peppermint oil helps fight bacteria and creates a pleasant breath.

4. Coconut oil

Coconut oil - vegetable oil, obtained from coconut pulp, containing a record amount of saturated fat.
The main component of the oil is lauric acid (medium chain saturated acid). Coconut oil contains approximately 50% lauric acid, which is considered a record content among other products.

The most popular ways to use coconut oil for oral hygiene are: oil pulling and adding the product to prepared toothpaste.

It’s very easy to make a teeth whitening rinse from coconut oil at home, it consists of just one ingredient, you will need:

  • A teaspoon of coconut oil.

How to carefully whiten teeth enamel using coconut oil at home:

  1. Coconut oil has a different consistency depending on the room temperature, but it always melts with human heat. Usually the product is quite hard.
  2. To whiten enamel, you need to take an incomplete teaspoon of the product and place it in your mouth. It will immediately begin to melt, and the consistency will resemble sunflower or olive oil.
  3. Now you need to roll it between your teeth, simulating rinsing with water.
  4. The procedure lasts 10-15 minutes. During this time, the oil will change its consistency and eventually become completely liquid.
  5. After this time, the mass must be spat out. Under no circumstances should you swallow, as the oil will draw out a large number of microbes and harmful substances from the teeth and tissues of the oral cavity.
  6. Rinse your mouth well with water at least 40 °C to remove all remaining oil. You can add a little salt to it.

Or just apply required amount oils on teeth before brushing. Leave for 15-20 minutes and then clean well in the traditional way.

Alternatively, drop coconut oil onto a clean cloth and rub into each tooth.
You can repeat this procedure 2-3 times a week.

Lauric acid has a detrimental effect on the vital activity of oral bacteria, which cause bad breath, the development of caries and periodontal disease. In particular, this substance effectively fights the Streptococcus mutans species, the main cause of the formation of carious cavities.

At regular use Coconut oil reduces the amount of plaque on teeth, which helps prevent periodontal disease. Recent studies have shown that coconut oil destroys plaque, thus protecting the gums from infections and bacteria entering the area, preventing the development of gingivitis and other pathological conditions. Several scientific studies have shown that coconut oil's effectiveness against these types of bacteria is comparable to that of chlorhexidine, the main antimicrobial component of many mouth rinses.
Thus, the use of coconut oil helps prevent tooth decay and protects against gum disease.

5. Tea tree oil

Teeth whitening with tea tree oil has become one of the hottest topics on forums discussing home cosmetology in all its manifestations. Indeed, teeth whitening with traditional folk remedies - peroxide, soda, charcoal - is very traumatic for the gums, and tea tree oil for teeth whitening can be an ideal way out.

The easiest way: moisten a cotton swab with oil and thoroughly wipe the teeth on all sides. Rinse your mouth with a weak solution of water and lemon/apple cider vinegar.

Brushing teeth with tea tree oil:

  1. After brushing your teeth with a regular brush and toothpaste, rinse your mouth thoroughly.

    By the way, after this procedure the smell of tea tree oil did not go away. It’s not that he bothers me much, but it’s unpleasant. I had to dilute a teaspoon of salt in a glass of water (you can take lemon juice or a couple of spoons of apple cider vinegar instead of salt), and already this rinsing removed the oil.
    This hygiene will help get rid of remaining bacteria after the first cleaning and give a whiter smile.

Repeat the procedure after 3-4 days.

When brushing your teeth with tea tree oil, it may numb your tongue or lips a little. But this feeling quickly passes, and with regular use it will become addictive and such manifestations will disappear forever.

Tea tree oil may cause gum irritation, it should not be swallowed as it can burn the esophagus. It should be remembered that tea tree oil should only be used as an external remedy. If tea tree oil is ingested in large quantities, it can have an effect on the body in the form of nausea, diarrhea, confusion, violations of movement orientation.

This procedure can be carried out both before and after cleaning. Before reading, it is carried out to soften deposits in the mouth, which are then effectively removed by brushing with a toothpaste. After brushing, mouth rinse provides high-quality and gentle oral care.

And also:

  • For sensitive enamel, mix three drops of tea tree with a teaspoon of aloe juice and rub into the enamel. This technique strengthens teeth and brightens them.
  • Every time after eating, rub in a solution prepared from a drop of tea tree and a teaspoon of mineral water. This recipe gets rid of nicotine plaque.
  • To eliminate swelling, suppuration and reduce pain, use a cotton swab soaked in tea tree ether and place it on the damaged area in the mouth.
  • If you have gumboil, you can rinse your mouth every three hours with a solution of tea tree oil and water (5 drops per glass).

6. Strawberry paste/scrub

Since ancient times, people have paid attention to the whitening properties of strawberries. Modern science offers the following explanation for this effect: strawberries contain salicylic acid, which has a destructive effect on substances that cause staining of tooth enamel. It would be a serious omission not to put this knowledge into practice.

There are several in various ways How can you use strawberries to whiten your teeth? Some of them are presented below.

Rubbing strawberries

  1. Take one strawberry.
  2. Cut it in half.
  3. Rub half a strawberry over the surface of your teeth.
  4. Leave for 5-10 minutes.
  5. Afterwards, brush your teeth with toothpaste as usual.

This is the perfect way to whiten your teeth without spending a lot of time and money. Depending on the circumstances, it can be applied twice a week.

Strawberries with baking soda

  1. Mash one or two strawberries.
  2. Use its juice to brush your teeth.
  3. Wait 5 minutes.
  4. Mix a tablespoon of baking soda with a small amount of water until a paste forms.
  5. Brush your teeth with it.
  6. Rinse your mouth with warm water.
  7. Brush your teeth with toothpaste as usual.

This method takes more time, but is very effective. The combination of strawberries and baking soda works wonders when it comes to teeth whitening. At the same time, simply mixing these two components does not give such a result, so it is very important to use them in turn.

How to whiten teeth with strawberry toothpaste:

Sea salt is good for whitening teeth. Due to its high iodine content, salt has antiseptic and antifungal properties.

Take fresh strawberries, mash them with a spoon, mix with the finest sea salt (you can grind it yourself in a coffee grinder), apply to a toothbrush and massage your teeth with light movements for several minutes. Then rinse your mouth well.
Of course, sea salt can be replaced with plain table salt...

How to whiten teeth with strawberry scrub:

To prepare a teeth whitening scrub at home you will need:

  • 1-3 large strawberries,
  • a pinch of salt,
  • 1/2 teaspoon of soda.
  1. Place the berries in a small jar, grind with a pestle until a paste is obtained, add salt, soda, mix thoroughly.
  2. Brush your teeth with regular toothpaste.
  3. Use a tissue to remove excess saliva.
  4. Apply the prepared scrub of strawberries, salt and soda to the brush.
  5. And apply a sufficient amount of the resulting mixture to your teeth. Massage well and leave for 5 minutes.
  6. Rinse your mouth.

The salt particles have quite sharp edges, so if the enamel is weak, then you can exclude this ingredient and use a mixture of strawberries and baking soda.

Strawberries are rich in vitamin C, which helps fight plaque. It also contains enzymes called malic acid, which help remove stains from your enamel.
Salt acts as an abrasive scrub ingredient that fights dirt, and soda is needed for additional whiteness.
Baking soda enhances the effects of the berry, giving it abrasive properties and promoting more intense whitening.
Instead of soda, you can use ash, activated carbon or tooth powder.

After the procedure, do not forget to brush your teeth with a fluoride-containing toothpaste to neutralize the glucose and acids contained in the berries.

Repeat the teeth whitening procedure every evening until the desired effect is achieved.

To avoid damaging the enamel, clean with this paste no more than once every 2 weeks. The acid contained in strawberries is relatively harmless due to its low concentration, but soda abrasive, if used more frequently, can damage tooth enamel. Therefore, people suffering from increased enamel sensitivity should use this method especially carefully and only after consulting a dentist.

7. Charcoal/activated carbon mask

Wood ash contains a substance called potassium hydroxide, the crystals of which perfectly lighten tooth enamel. Active ash particles are able to remove plaque in the most difficult to reach places. Previously, our ancestors used charcoal daily as a tooth powder, and at the same time had white teeth.

Take a piece of charcoal (a carbonaceous material made by heating wood) and rub it on your yellowed teeth. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with warm water.

According to Ayurveda, instead of a toothbrush, you need to use a stick of neem or sandalwood (sold in any Indian goods store). Before each use, the stick is lightly set on fire: ash is the cleaning agent we need.

By the way, it is quite possible to use powder from blue eggplants. Yes, yes, I found this advice online:

Cut the eggplant into slices, bring to a charcoal state in a frying pan or in the oven and crush. Stain your fingers with eggplant ash and brush your teeth with them for 3-5 minutes. After teeth whitening, you should not eat or drink for an hour. Ash from your fingers can be easily washed off with warm water, you can prepare it in reserve, and it can be stored for a long time.

I don’t know about you, I bake eggplants in the oven for caviar until the crust is lightly charred: I scoop out the pulp, but the charcoal skins remain - so I’ll have to try it...

And one more thing: you can put charcoal in a jar when you go to barbecue. Using olive oil, you can remove individual stains on your teeth: carefully rub the darkened area with a cotton swab dipped in oil. Then you can brush your teeth with regular toothpaste. After three to five treatments, the stain will disappear. with a barbecue or fire and all the bells and whistles :).

Activated carbon has the same properties for teeth. You can buy this product at any pharmacy, activated carbon is not expensive, so everyone can afford this method bleaching.
Rest assured that it is safe for your health! After cleaning activated carbon your teeth actually become cleaner and whiter.

How to use: Pour charcoal powder into a cup or small bowl, soak a damp cotton swab in it, and then wipe your teeth one at a time. Then wash off.

You need to grind about ten tablets of activated carbon and add the powder to a tube of toothpaste and mix thoroughly. But since this process is labor-intensive, the easiest way is to crush one tablet and mix it with the toothpaste before each brushing directly on the toothbrush.

You can use pure charcoal powder, put a little of it on your toothbrush and brush your teeth as usual, without adding toothpaste.
Mix charcoal powder with water to obtain the consistency of thick sour cream. Gently apply to teeth, leave for 2 minutes and rinse thoroughly. Then we clean it in the usual way.

We repeat the procedure 1-2 times a week.

You can also mix activated charcoal with a few drops of lemon juice or water to form a paste, making it easy to use. Finish by rinsing with clean water.

8. Banana peel

Banana peels are also a great way to whiten your teeth. It is harmless to tooth enamel and practically free.

Banana peel contains substances that dissolve plaque and help maintain perfect color.

Banana peel bleach

  1. Peel the banana.
  2. Take a small part of it and rub it on your teeth.
  3. Continue rubbing for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Rinse your mouth with warm water.

Or carefully rub the outer and inner surfaces of the teeth with a strip of peel, its white part, and leave for 5 minutes. Then we brush our teeth and rinse well.

You can repeat this treatment as often as you like, it is very simple, takes no more than 5 minutes and makes your teeth snow-white.

9. Orange peel and bay leaf

Orange peel is considered a good tooth whitener at home. What are the advantages: cheap, the procedure takes literally a few minutes, accessible, since the often required ingredient is present in the kitchen (especially in winter :).

Peel the orange. Rub the inside (pale) side of the orange peel onto your teeth. Rinse your mouth with water

Using orange peel on its own good method for teeth whitening. But the combination of orange peel and bay leaf is more effective method whitening at home. Plus, it's cheap and you can find all the ingredients in your kitchen. The procedure takes literally a few minutes.
Orange peel can be replaced with tangerine peel.

Tooth whitener made from orange peels and bay leaves

  1. Peel the orange.
  2. Take a few pieces of peel.
  3. Rub them into your tooth enamel.
  4. Grind the bay leaf until it turns into powder.
  5. Also apply it on your teeth.
  6. Leave for 5 minutes.
  7. Rinse your mouth with warm water.

It is best to use this method once a week. The acid contained in orange peel kills bacteria that cause stains on enamel. And the bay leaf is absorbed into the stains themselves, discoloring them.

10. Lemon for teeth whitening

Homemade variations on the use of lemon's teeth-lightening properties are numerous. However, they all have several common nuances.

In order not to repeat myself in each recipe, I will tell you about them separately:

  • Before each procedure, as well as for some time after it, you should not eat foods containing strong dyes, for example, beets, red wine, strong tea(both black and green), coffee and others.
  • Also, before starting the procedure, you should brush your teeth well using your usual brush and toothpaste.
  • These are quite strong techniques, so their use is not recommended more than once every 7-10 days. The number of procedures is no more than four.

By following these tips, you can make whitening more effective.

Lemon juice:
Ideal for restoring the whiteness of yellowed and food-stained teeth. It is also effective against tartar and maintains fresh breath, strengthens and cleanses the gums.

Mode of application:

  1. Wash your teeth only with a small amount of freshly squeezed lemon juice.
  2. Clean them carefully and rinse with clean water.

Do this only 2 times a week, no more. Lemon is very acidic and can damage tooth enamel.

Rubbing with a slice:

  1. Needs to be cut off fresh fruit a thin slice.
  2. It needs to be rubbed onto the surface of the enamel and not washed off for several minutes.
  3. Depending on the degree of darkening and the individual characteristics of each patient’s teeth, the exposure time may vary.
  4. For greater effectiveness, do not close your mouth tightly while waiting for the effect.

As an option, place a slice of lemon on your teeth and hold for 5-7 minutes.

After the effect becomes noticeable externally (usually this should wait about 5 minutes, sometimes longer), the remaining lemon should be rinsed off well without using paste or other artificial products.

Zest rub:
This method is considered more gentle than the first, since the zest contains slightly less acid than the pulp itself.

  1. The fruit should be peeled so that large enough pieces remain. The lemon itself can be used in any way you like, since you only need the zest to lighten the enamel.
  2. The outer side of each tooth should be thoroughly rubbed with a piece of peel, using its inner side.
  3. After that, leave your mouth open for a few minutes (but no more than 3-5) for free access of air.

Usually this is enough for a visual effect - the enamel becomes lighter during the procedure. Next, you should rinse your mouth.

Pulp lotions:
The method is suitable for those people whose teeth darken quite strongly, but at the same time the enamel is quite thick and strong.

  1. You need to make a paste from the seedless lemon pulp and dense inner films.
  2. It is applied to the surface of the teeth and held for up to five minutes, leaving the mouth slightly open, as in previous recipes.
  3. After the procedure, the pulp should be washed off by rinsing, but not with a toothbrush.

Lemon Rinse:
For gradual whitening and freshness of the mouth, a mouthwash is great, which is easy to make yourself.

  1. For it we take 3 parts lemon juice and 1 part finely ground salt.
  2. Mix and rinse your teeth well with the solution after brushing.
  3. We use it 2-3 times a week.

Do not use mouthwash if there is inflammation in the mouth.

The easiest way:
It consists of chewing a piece of lemon pulp for 2-3 minutes. The effect of this procedure will also be quite noticeable.

Today there is hardly a person who has not faced the problem of how to make his smile snow-white. In this article we will tell you in detail how to whiten your teeth at home using all available means.

What is hidden behind the concept of “teeth whitening”?

White teeth without gray or yellow spots indicate that the oral microflora is healthy. Although doctors say that The natural color of tooth enamel is yellowish. And it is determined genetically. That is, if your parents’ smile did not sparkle with pearls, then this will not threaten you either.

Dentists distinguish cleansing as different procedures.

  1. Cleansing– removed by any means (laser, cleaning pastes, etc.) The enamel becomes lighter when stones are removed from it. But it will not be white, but rather beige. This procedure cannot be carried out if the enamel is thin, because it can be damaged.
  2. Whitening– all efforts and actions are aimed at ensuring that the surface of the tooth quickly becomes a uniform color, that is, dark places should lighten. Since it is individual for each person, this must be taken into account before you decide to take care of the beauty of your smile.

Therefore, you should consider the following factors and be sure to consult your dentist:

  • if you have sensitivity of teeth and gums;
  • if there are fillings, crowns or braces on the front incisors;
  • periodontal disease;
  • complications from caries;
  • chips, cracks and other damage;
  • during pregnancy and lactation;
  • allergy to chemical substances for whitening (soda, hydrogen peroxide);
  • presence of diabetes mellitus;
  • infectious diseases such as herpes and others;
  • when under 16, in some cases – 18 years old.

Despite the fact that various methods are used for whitening not only by professionals, but also by folk craftsmen, remember that any product during the procedure affects not only the enamel. It penetrates the lower layer of dentin, reacts with the pigment and removes it.

Therefore, in order for the enamel not only to become lighter, but also not to become thinner, doctors recommend resorting to whitening no more than once a year.

Please note that the results may not last long if:

  • fluoride in drinking water exceeds the norm;
  • abuse of cigarettes, coffee and tea;
  • love sweets, which contributes to the destruction of enamel;
  • are taking medications that contain tetracycline.

After regular whitening, tooth enamel will restore its natural color no earlier than in a year.

How whitening toothpastes work

Since teeth whitening in dental clinics is not affordable for everyone, many try to do it themselves. What risks await those who like to make their smile whiter, what means are acceptable, and is it possible to carry out such processes without consulting professionals?

This method is called mechanical. After all The paste contains an abrasive agent that greatly erases the enamel. Teeth whitening at home using special toothpastes can cause increased sensitivity to cold or hot irritants (food, air).

Brands of any brand are unlikely to turn you into the owner of a “Hollywood” smile if your smile was not particularly white from birth. Whitening pastes contain the following components:

  1. abrasives(silicic acid, charcoal, clay, calcium carbonate, titanium white).

They gently remove plaque, do not cause allergies and do not interact with other components of the toothpaste. Dentists do not recommend using toothpastes that contain polyethylene, since its particles remain in the teeth and destroy the microflora of the oral cavity. This becomes one of the causes of periodontitis.

  1. enzymes(pineapple and papaya juice).

Easily breaks down protein, and plaque is effectively removed by a toothbrush.

  1. compounds with hydrogen peroxide.

Their concentration in the paste is negligible and cannot affect the whitening of the enamel; it will only help lighten the teeth slightly.

Cons of whitening pastes:

  1. They thin and destroy the enamel, reducing its sensitivity.
  2. Often contain preservatives and carcinogenic substances that cause allergic reactions and oncological diseases.
  3. The inflated price does not always coincide with the result obtained.
  4. Do not use more than twice a week.
  5. It rids teeth of calcium and fluoride, so you need to take products to restore mineral balance.

Whitening pastes are strictly contraindicated for children.

If after several uses abrasive pastes your teeth are hurting, sensitivity has increased, take a break or give it up completely.

It is better not to use a paste with a whitening effect if the enamel is thin and its natural tone is matte. The result will be practically zero.

Therefore, do not avoid consulting a dentist if you decide to “ Hollywood smile"using paste. He will assess the condition of your mouth and recommend a suitable whitening product.

Affordable folk method: whitening with soda

If you decide to improve the color of your teeth on your own, then pay attention to traditional methods.

For example, soda not only cleanses the enamel surface well, but also disinfects the oral cavity. There are several ways to use:

  1. soak a damp toothbrush in baking soda and brush your teeth;
  2. dip it in water and wring out a gauze cloth, then apply baking soda to it and wipe the enamel.

This mechanical method allows you to remove the yellowish coating from the surface. The procedure should not be carried out more than once every two to three weeks. Because an instant effect with increased use will lead to abrasion and destruction of the enamel. The gums will be injured. Eating will be quite painful and unpleasant.

Cheap and dangerous - bleaching with hydrogen peroxide!

Despite the popularity and availability of this method, it is not safe for health. After all, everyone studied chemistry at school, but how many realize that the active combination of two oxygen molecules and the same amount of hydrogen, entering the oral cavity, begins to actively affect its tissues. Therefore, if used incorrectly, burns of the mucous membranes of the cheeks, palate, tongue, and gums are possible.

The algorithm of actions is as follows:

  1. first clean your teeth with regular toothpaste and rinse your mouth thoroughly;
  2. add half a teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide (3%) to half a glass of water;
  3. Rinse your mouth with this mixture, avoiding swallowing;
  4. moisten cotton swab in the solution and wipe each jaw on both sides, without touching the gums;
  5. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with water (preferably warm).

You can combine peroxide with baking soda. The effect will be noticeable. But you should not use this method often so that the procedure is without harm to the enamel. Once every ten days is an acceptable option. Should not be used by people with sensitive or damaged gums or gastrointestinal diseases.

Whitening strips: what effect to expect?

This option is chosen by the “lazy”. , with bleach applied to them, are sold in pharmacies. They need to be glued to your teeth twice throughout the day. Duration - from five to twenty minutes. Strips are popular because anyone can follow the instructions. Plus - a delicate effect on the enamel.

You can choose one of the types to use:

  1. classical;
  2. intensive;
  3. for sensitive enamel.

Be sure to follow step by step instructions so as not to provoke itching, inflammation or pain in the oral cavity. The expected result will be in about fifteen days, and the procedure itself will have to be carried out regularly for at least a month.

If you want to improve the color of your enamel using whitening strips, then The step by step process looks like this:

  1. We brush our teeth in the usual way;
  2. Take a strip and remove the protective thin film from it;
  3. Place the product with the gel side in front of the mirror and smooth it well so that the strip follows their shape;
  4. We keep the time specified in the instructions;
  5. Remove the whitening strip;
  6. We brush our teeth with a soft brush and rinse our mouth thoroughly;
  7. You cannot smoke, eat or talk during the procedure, because saliva can interfere with whitening;
  8. Most strips contain hydrogen peroxide, which may cause sensitivity;
  9. Home teeth whitening system, designed for 4-5 weeks, the cost is relatively low;
  10. Reviews indicate that the result is stable for at least three months. The interdental spaces whiten worse, but the fillings will not stand out against the general background;
  11. It is recommended to repeat the course using the gel.

Strong products – gels and varnishes!

Teeth whitening gels are available in two types: liquid and solid (aligners) states. Their lineups are considered more aggressive, and therefore more effective and faster.

Liquid mixtures are applied with a brush, which is included in the package. Gel should harden on your teeth. Dissolves with saliva. The procedure time is specified in the instructions. The course is about 16–18 days. Study the composition carefully, as it may contain acids that will aggravate the sensitivity of tooth enamel. Long term effects should not be expected.

Mouth guards obtained in the form of casts of the jaws. They are made by dentists. Then the inside is lubricated with whitening gel. Depending on the concentration of the composition (from 30 to 10% hydrogen peroxide), they are kept on the tooth enamel from twenty minutes to eight hours. Often a gel with a small amount of peroxide is used at night.

The visual effect is noticeable after the first use. In four weeks, your smile can be whitened by several shades, thanks to the fact that the aligners fit tightly and do not leave uneven gaps.

It is better to carry out such teeth whitening at home in consultation with a doctor, so that hydrogen peroxide does not lead to inflammatory processes in the gums.

User reviews indicate that the advertised varnishes for instant whiteness of teeth, they are often of poor quality (the very smell of acetone is worth it!). They don’t last well, don’t dry out for a long time, and you shouldn’t expect any special results. Besides, there is a high risk of deep damage to the enamel.

Bleaching using the “miner’s” method – charcoal!

For such bleaching, you do not need to go underground or master the profession of a miner. Everything is much simpler. Buy activated carbon at any pharmacy and get started. The method is not only cheap, but also without harm. After all, coal is a sorbent, so even if it gets into the stomach, it will do no harm.

The instructions look like this:

  1. Grind one tablet into powder;
  2. Apply the black mixture to a damp brush;
  3. Brush your teeth for about five minutes;
  4. Rinse your mouth well.

This procedure removes most stains and makes teeth shiny. And although you won’t see much result, it won’t cause any harm. If you whiten with charcoal at least once every week and a half, then after a month your teeth will become a little lighter. You can also use wood ash, which in the old days was an analogue of toothpaste.

White pencil - white teeth!

Teeth whitening pencils are similar to a tube of lipstick or a ballpoint pen. Since they were first used by women, the pencils were shaped like a bottle of mascara or a tube of lipstick.

When they gained popularity among men, the developers offered an option in the form of a fountain pen. This bleach is always convenient to keep on hand.

The pencil consists of hydrogen peroxide ( 5–10% ) or carbamide peroxide. The action is gentle if the peroxide concentration is low. Pay attention to the composition, because if the amount of this substance is greater, the teeth will whiten better and faster, but the enamel will certainly suffer.

You can use the pencil 2-3 times a day. Available at any time of the day, the location (home, work) does not matter:

  1. rinse your mouth to remove any remaining food;
  2. wipe both jaws with a dry cloth;
  3. open your mouth wide and apply the mixture to your teeth;
  4. the presence of foam indicates that a reaction has occurred;
  5. soak the gel on the enamel according to the instructions (from a minute to 12);
  6. do not close your mouth and try not to smile during the procedure;
  7. after the specified time, wipe your jaws dry or rinse your mouth;
  8. You can use the pencil for no more than two weeks;
  9. removes tobacco and coffee stains well, but does not cope with stronger pigmentation;
  10. plus – contains fluorine components for the mineralization of enamel, in emergency situations it functions as a toothbrush;
  11. do not use a pencil, .

Differences between professional and home teeth whitening

Toothpastes may differ slightly in their purpose. Of course, their main task is to clean teeth and gums, but they capable of performing other functions:

  • bleach;
  • mineralize enamel;
  • eliminate unpleasant odor from the oral cavity;
  • relieve gum inflammation.

Such means cannot be used constantly. For example, if a paste with a whitening effect has run out, then it is not advisable to purchase the same one again. This can damage the enamel and increase tooth sensitivity.

Advantages

High quality whitening products has certain advantages before other pastes:

  • a relatively safe method, since there is no mechanical intervention;
  • fast whitening;
  • low cost compared to professional whitening carried out in the dentist's office.

Flaws

Such pastes also have their disadvantages:

Contraindications

In some cases, the use of whitening pastes is contraindicated. It can be the following factors:

  • Pregnancy, breastfeeding.
  • Thin or damaged tooth enamel. Such pastes contain abrasive particles that make the enamel even thinner or damage it.
  • The presence of chips or cracks on the teeth through which the paste acts on the dentin. This leads to its destruction and pain.

  • Age up to 18 years.
  • Periodontal disease.

Therefore, it is not recommended to whiten teeth if you have caries or periodontal disease. enamel has increased sensitivity. First you need to be treated by a dentist. Are all whitening toothpastes the same?

Almost all manufacturers of whitening toothpastes claim that using their products brings excellent result. But is this really so? Such products have different effects on tooth enamel, as they have different characteristics and composition.

There are the following types of whitening pastes, differing in their specific purpose.

Pastes that neutralize pigments that appear on the enamel surface. They contain not too active polishing components consisting of enzymes that do an excellent job of removing both plaque and hard tartar. Such pastes can be used for much longer, and they incapable of causing harm. But they are contraindicated for children, pregnant and lactating women. Also, you should not use them if your gums are inflamed or if your teeth have become very sensitive. This product is great for heavy smokers because it cleanses teeth of smoking products well.

Pastes that affect tooth enamel due to active oxygen. They contain components that can decompose under the influence of saliva. This leads to the formation of such an important cleansing component as active oxygen, which easily penetrates into the smallest cracks and cavities and can brighten teeth well even in the most difficult to reach places. Such remedies are very effective, which can be noticed almost immediately.

Pastes containing carmide peroxide also provide good results. But they are strictly prohibited for those who have various damage to their teeth, cracks and large chips. Such remedies act very quickly and penetrate deeply, so the diseased teeth begin to decay. But you should not refuse to use them, but you must first cure damaged teeth, and only then bleach them. They are also contraindicated for children, pregnant and lactating women.

Pastes containing abrasive components. It is thanks to such particles that pigmentation is removed from teeth. The products act quickly and effectively, the enamel is lightened by several tones at once, even fillings can change their color. But such pastes have a large number of disadvantages. You can brush your teeth with this product no more than twice a week, as abrasive particles can wear away the enamel.

In addition, it prevents the formation of caries, strengthens teeth and saturates them with minerals.

"SPLAT". The toothpaste of this brand is called “Whitening Plus”, so we can conclude that this product is intended not only for whitening. It contains quite a lot of abrasive particles that polish and quickly cleanse teeth of pigmentation and dirt. The peculiarity of this toothpaste is that it contains components that can quickly destroy pigments at the level of their structure. In addition, they remove plaque and tartar well, and potassium salt and sodium fluoride reduce the sensitivity of enamel.

"Silka Arctic White". This paste eliminates strong pigmentation, since it contains a large amount of abrasive substances, as well as pyrophosphates. Thanks to them, plaque quickly dissolves and solid deposits, but the enamel may be damaged. Because of this, the product is not recommended for long-term use.

"ROCS". The main component of this whitening toothpaste is calcium glycerophosphate, which helps strengthen the enamel by saturating it with minerals. And thanks to bromelain, plaque is effectively eliminated.

"PRESIDENT". This paste is called “Whitening” and it does the job quite well. Her distinctive feature is the presence of components plant origin, which in combination with silicon remove plaque well. In addition, Icelandic moss extract perfectly polishes tooth enamel.

"Colgate". This whitening paste has a simple composition, which includes abrasive and polishing particles along with sodium fluoride. The disadvantage of this product is its rather high abrasiveness.

Thus, it is not easy to find an effective toothpaste that whitens teeth well. It is highly undesirable to purchase such a product yourself, because it can harm the enamel. Therefore, it is recommended to select it only after consultation with a dentist, who will take everything into account individual characteristics your patient.

Under cleansing understand the removal of plaque by any available method (mechanical cleaning, laser, ultrasound, photopaste or paste with particles of an abrasive substance).

At correct implementation the method has almost no contraindications for use. The exception is situations when the enamel is too thin and there is Great chance damage it during cleaning. The thickness of the enamel is diagnosed visually by its transparency. If the layer is thin, dentin (yellow tint) shines through from underneath it. Cleaning such enamel is dangerous and contraindicated.

After the cleaning procedure, yellow teeth acquire a natural color, light, but not blindingly white. Natural enamel has a barely noticeable beige tint.

It easily interacts with atoms of other substances and oxidizes them. Atomic oxygen ensures the death of pyogenic bacteria and toxins of various origins. Therefore, the peroxide substance is known for its oxidative and antibacterial effects.

Teeth whitening with peroxide is the basis of the effects of most dental gels used to lighten enamel. In clinical whitening with hydrogen peroxide, a concentrated solution of peroxide (up to 38%) is used. This percentage of concentrate allows you to lighten the enamel by up to 15 tones. This substance, when illuminated by an LED lamp, releases free atomic oxygen. It penetrates the enamel and the binding yellow pigment. One application of gel from a pencil allows you to lighten the enamel by 6-10 tones.

Method No. 6: whitening gel in trays

An option for using a whitening gel can be trays placed on the top of the tooth at night. Before putting on, the mouth guards are filled with gel. How longer time exposure of the gel to the chewing surface, the better the whitening effect will appear. We also recommend that you familiarize yourself with whitening strips.

Method number 7: whitening toothpastes

The composition of the whitening paste has a multidirectional effect on the enamel:

  • dissolve existing dental plaque;
  • suppress mineralization of already formed plaque;
  • prevents the formation of new plaque.

In order not to solve the question of how to make your teeth white, you must adhere to daily rules of oral care (brush your teeth twice a day using a brush medium hard, and rinse after eating saline solution). In addition, it is important to know the factors that cause yellowing of enamel:

  • excessive addiction to coloring products (coffee, tea, chocolate, blueberries, beets, tomatoes, mustard, products with synthetic dyes);
  • smoking;
  • antibiotics of the tetracycline group;
  • antihistamines.

By adhering to simple rules of a healthy diet, you can preserve not only your teeth and their color, but also your own health.

Whitening pastes: a snow-white smile without harming your teeth? Memo from the dentist

What is the principle of action of teeth whitening pastes? Are they all equally effective and safe? Can this paste be used constantly? And what you need to pay attention to in the labeling when choosing a whitening paste.

How do “whitening” toothpastes work?

First of all, it is necessary to clearly understand that the so-called whitening pastes do not actually whiten, but clean (lighten) teeth. Each of us develops a biofilm on our teeth, which gradually turns into soft plaque, and then into tartar. And the task of whitening pastes is to effectively remove dental plaque.

If you have tartar, then you need to go to professional hygiene see the dentist (you need to visit the doctor at least once a year), and then use whitening toothpaste to keep your teeth clean.

You should also know that the effect of using tooth whitening pastes in people with different colors enamel is not the same - on light teeth it will be more pronounced than on yellow ones.

So, the principle of action of whitening pastes is to eliminate plaque and achieve a teeth whitening effect. In this case, the smile acquires the color of natural enamel.

This is achieved in five ways:

  • Due to simple abrasive erasing. Toothpaste scratches the plaque, gradually removing it. The effectiveness and time of appearance of the effect are high. Minus - the enamel is also scratched. Therefore, highly abrasive pastes are recommended to be used short courses.
  • Dissolution of plaque with special enzymes. The advantages of the method are the chemical dissolution of the protein base of the plaque and its mild action. The time for the lightening effect to appear is much longer and the presence of enzymes does not exclude the presence of abrasives in the paste.
  • The presence of peroxide compounds - their effect, in my opinion, is very doubtful due to the very low concentration.
  • Polyphosphates are effective complexing agents that extract calcium from the tartar matrix and loosen its structure. At the same time, calcium is washed out of the tooth enamel.
  • Activated carbon in some pastes - its adsorption ability does not affect the enamel pigment in any way, lightening occurs due to the erasing of plaque.

In this regard, we can conclude that abrasive pastes are suitable for teeth with strong enamel, and then only for short courses with periods of recovery (rest), while pastes based on enzymes are suitable for sensitive teeth.

Toothpaste components: what to look for in the labeling

Various components in toothpaste can provide both gentle and more “traumatic” teeth whitening.

There are nine main components that make up whitening toothpastes. Here's what you need to know about their effectiveness and how whitening toothpaste affects the color and health of your teeth.

  1. Silicon compounds(silicon dioxide, silicic acid, silicates) - remove plaque without significantly damaging the enamel. Plus - they do not react with other components of the paste and do not cause allergic reactions.
  2. Calcium carbonate and I - quick cleansing, but severely damages the enamel.
  3. Titanium dioxide- in low concentrations it has a mild cleansing effect. In addition, it is a highly effective white pigment.
  4. Polyethylene- popular in many pastes, but recently studies have appeared indicating its bad influence on the periodontium, which increases the risk of periodontitis.
  5. Abrasive toothpaste- abrasives in the form of clay, coal, baking soda.
  6. Papain enzyme - natural enzyme melon tree, effectively breaks down plaque proteins.
  7. Bromelain enzyme- obtained from pineapple, the effect is equal to the effect of papain.
  8. Hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide - their effect is practically zero.
  9. Potassium pyrophosphate or sodium, sodium hexametaphosphate and sodium tripolyphosphate - bind calcium ions in plaque, but also in enamel, causing tooth hypersensitivity.

When choosing whitening toothpastes, first of all, you need to focus on the RDA controlled abrasiveness index. Depending on the abrasiveness of the particles in the paste, you can understand which paste is right for you. Whitening pastes can be divided into the following types:

  • For sensitive teeth - 25 RDA
  • Baby pastes - 25 - 50 RDA
  • For daily use - 70 - 80 RDA
  • Soft whitening pastes - 100 - 150 RDA. For teeth with normal sensitivity.
  • Highly abrasive pastes - over 150 RDA/ Suitable for smokers with healthy, strong, but yellow teeth.

It should be remembered that for teenagers and people with increased abrasion and sensitivity, teeth whitening paste with increased abrasiveness is not recommended!

How to Use Whitening Toothpaste Safely

It is not recommended to use whitening paste on a regular basis. You should brush your teeth for a month with a whitening toothpaste, then for two months with a regular toothpaste to restore (rest) the enamel.

Whitening pastes differ from regular toothpastes only in the presence of abrasive components or enzymes. The opinion that whitening toothpastes lighten teeth but do not protect against caries is extremely wrong!

It is necessary to understand that the task of all pastes is to eliminate, to one degree or another, plaque, which is an accumulation of bacteria that negatively affects tooth enamel and leads to the occurrence of a carious process.

At the same time, a budget tooth whitening paste cannot be as effective as an expensive product: due to the lack of expensive active ingredients, such as papain and bromelain enzymes.

In the next part of my material, dedicated to improving the color of teeth, we will talk about home and professional whitening systems. Which of them are more effective, safe and what questions should you ask your doctor before deciding on such a procedure.

Snow-white teeth are considered a symbol of health, youth and attractiveness, and beautiful smile gives a person self-confidence when communicating with other people. Unfortunately, tooth enamel tends to darken under the influence of various factors; in addition, for many it is naturally yellowish. Regular dental care is not enough to maintain radiant white teeth, which is why you have to resort to whitening procedures. It's best to do this in clinical settings, trusting professionals, but if this is not possible, you can try teeth whitening yourself using special means.

Do-it-yourself teeth whitening

The most effective ways

The most effective and safe for tooth enamel are pharmaceutical products in the form of whitening gels and pastes. They are produced in wide range, are available in every pharmacy and their prices are quite reasonable. These products contain abrasives and active solvents, so they should not be used too often.

Whitening with a tray

Mouthguard for teeth whitening

For this method, you will need not only a brightening gel, but also a special device for teeth - a mouthguard. Mouthguards are made from flexible thermoplastic, and depending on the production method, they are divided into standard and customized. Standard mouthguards most often go on sale complete with gel and have a low price. Individual aligners are made from impressions of the patient’s teeth, so the product accurately follows their shape and allows the gel to be distributed more evenly. In addition, they are much more convenient to use and do not cause discomfort.

Mouth guards are comfortable and easy to use

The gel contains hydrogen peroxide, which is the active ingredient, as well as potassium nitrate and fluoride, which help reduce tooth sensitivity. In case of severe darkening of the enamel, another composition is used, in which hydrogen peroxide is replaced by carbamide peroxide. This substance is more effective, but it irritates the gums less and does not cause adverse reactions.

How to whiten tooth enamel: The tray is filled with a small amount of gel, put on the teeth and left for several hours. The product holds tightly, does not fall off, and does not interfere with conversation, so it can be used during the day, but it is still much more comfortable to wear a mouthguard at night. Maximum time use at a time should not exceed 8 hours, after which the mouthguard is removed and thoroughly washed with water or a disinfectant solution. The mouthguard should be stored in a special case with holes for ventilation. Oral hygiene is performed as standard. The duration of the whitening course depends on the condition of the enamel; on average, it takes about 2 weeks.

The advantages of this method:

  • tooth enamel becomes noticeably lighter;
  • You can whiten your teeth at any time convenient for you;
  • The procedure will cost much less than whitening in the clinic.

  • the active substance softens the enamel, resulting in increased tooth sensitivity;
  • when it comes into contact with the gums and mucous membranes, the gel causes irritation of soft tissues;
  • Whitening takes a long time;
  • To maintain the whiteness of the enamel, you need to refrain from smoking and eating foods with coloring pigments - coffee, tea, berries, tomatoes, beets and others for a week after completing the course.

If you use whitening trays, be prepared to keep your teeth white by avoiding smoking and certain drinks and foods.

Improper use of a mouthguard can cause more harm than good, so consultation with a dentist is required. Of particular importance is the concentration of the active substance: gel with high content Hydrogen peroxide should be in contact with teeth for no more than 3 hours a day.

Whitening Pencil

These pencils are small cylindrical bottles with a brush filled with whitening gel. In addition to the brightening effect, the gel also has bactericidal properties. The composition has a low concentration of carbamide peroxide, therefore it has a gentle effect on tooth enamel and does not cause irritation to the mucous membrane, but it takes longer to obtain the desired effect. Some manufacturers additionally introduce others active ingredients, accelerating whitening, and various natural oils.

Teeth Whitening Pencil

How to use the pencil: after rinsing with clean water, you need to wait until the teeth are dry, carefully apply the gel with a brush to each tooth from the outside and dry again. You can use the product at any time of the day; it is recommended to brush your teeth with toothpaste only a few hours after applying the gel. The duration of the course is from 1 to 4 weeks, depending on the condition of the enamel. The break between whitening courses should not be less than 2 months.

Onuge Hollywood Smile (teeth whitening pencil)

Advice. It should be noted that the effectiveness of pencils is quite average, and the enamel will only be lightened by 2-3 tones. If your teeth are too dark, it is impossible to achieve a snow-white smile in this way, but you can easily remove light yellowness or stains. When choosing, give preference to products famous brands, meeting all sanitary standards.

  • safety;
  • ease of use;
  • low price;
  • there is no need to visit the dentist.

The pencil is very easy to use

  • duration of the course;
  • less bright effect.

The pencil requires long-term use

Whitening strips

This product appeared not so long ago, but has already become quite popular. The strips allow you to achieve white teeth, having a very gentle effect on the enamel and mucous membranes, provided that the instructions are strictly followed. These are thin flexible plates with an applied layer of gel and a protective coating. Depending on the composition and concentration of the product, the strips have different effects and differ in the duration of use - from 5 minutes to 2 hours daily for 7-28 days.

Whitening strips - photo

How to use the strips: rinse your mouth with clean water, remove the strip from the packaging, and carefully remove protective covering. In front of the mirror, stick it on the outside of the teeth, with the long plates intended for the top row, and the short ones for the bottom. After this, you need to level the strip over the gums and lightly press it with your finger along the entire length. After the time specified in the instructions (usually 5-30 minutes), the plate is removed and the teeth are cleaned soft brush and rinse with water.

How to use the strips

Lightening of the enamel can be noticed already on the 3-4th day; the whitening effect after completing the course lasts for about a year, but excessive consumption of coffee, tea and smoking shorten this period. All strips are disposable and reuse are not subject to, since the active substance is completely consumed at one time.

Advanced Teeth Whitening Strips

Advice. After gluing the strips, you should not smoke, eat or even drink water, and for 2 hours after completion of the procedure it is not recommended to consume food or drinks with coloring properties.

Pros of using strips:

  • guaranteed effect;
  • ease of use;
  • the ability to independently control the lightening intensity;
  • relatively low price;
  • safety.

The result of teeth whitening strips

  • sensitivity increases;
  • Extended teeth, fillings and crowns are not whitened.

Whitening pastes

Toothpastes with brightening properties are now available in a wide range. They not only remove plaque from the surface, but also neutralize pigment particles in the enamel layer. Such pastes contain abrasives, enzymes that break down microscopic deposits, and solvents based on carbamide peroxide. Under the influence of the paste, the enamel lightens by 1-3 shades, while the result does not last long and disappears after 1-2 months.

Toothpaste “SPLAT whitening Plus”

How to use: Apply a pea-sized portion of paste to a damp brush and spread over the surface of the teeth. Next, perform intensive brushing for 3 minutes and thoroughly rinse your mouth with water. Whitening toothpaste Global White

After completing the course, tooth enamel needs to be strengthened, so it is advisable to choose a paste with a high calcium content and a rinse solution with fluoride. The use of these products will reduce the risk of caries, which happens quite often when teeth whitening.

Traditional methods

There are many recipes for teeth whitening using folk remedies. Not all of them are safe, so they should be used very carefully. These recipes are not particularly effective, although they do allow you to get rid of the slight yellowness of the enamel for a while.

From our article you will learn about the causes of darkening of teeth, how to whiten teeth at home, whether there are absolutely safe whitening methods, and why folk remedies are not always good.

We all dream of a beautiful snow-white smile. In the modern world, it is associated with health and success. In addition to aesthetic pleasure, British scientists have proven that subconsciously, people with snow-white smiles always look more attractive in the eyes of the opposite sex.

By the presence, condition and color of teeth, one can judge the age and health of a person. However, a dazzling white color in the mouth is not always an indicator of the ideal functioning of the body. In addition to the fact that the teeth could be whitened, sometimes this color is an indicator of a low level of hemoglobin in the blood or some kind of malfunction of the thyroid gland.

Why do teeth darken and turn yellow?

Teeth are yellow for a number of reasons, both natural and due to health problems:

1. Heredity. Sometimes teeth are yellowish from birth due to their high mineral content. Such teeth are considered by doctors to be even stronger than regular baby teeth.

2. Poor cleaning of teeth. If you brush your teeth incorrectly (with special movements and for at least 3 minutes), plaque may accumulate on them and tartar may form.

3. Unhealthy habits and poor nutrition:

- smoking and frequent use alcohol, especially red wine;

- if you can’t live even a day without sweets, your teeth may turn yellow;

- black and green tea also cause darkening of teeth;

- coffee, especially if you drink it in liters;

- strict diets, when the body does not receive enough nutrients, vitamins and minerals for a long time.

4. Due to general aging. Unfortunately, with age, the enamel becomes thinner and the natural process of teeth yellowing occurs.

5. Health problems:

- this could be a problem internal organs– possible malfunction of the liver and gall bladder;

- some blood diseases can cause this effect;

- after taking individual tablets, yellow streaks may appear on the teeth;

- if the color of ONE tooth suddenly changes, this may be the result of its destruction or necrosis. Let's run to the doctor!

Before you start teeth whitening at home, you must first visit the dentist . Despite the fact that we are going to whiten our teeth at home, a preliminary visit to the doctor is not a whim, but a necessity. You can spend a lot of time trying to whiten your yellow teeth, trying all sorts of methods, and get absolutely no results, since the problem will be hidden deep inside the tooth.

Therefore, please note:

You can whiten your teeth using home methods only if the yellowness is caused by plaque on your teeth. If the tooth has darkened for any reason internal reason, for example, collapsed and “died”, only bleaching in dental clinic will correct the situation. But you can find out the cause of yellowness only at an appointment with a doctor.

You also cannot whiten your teeth at home if you have darkened old fillings or crowns in your teeth. In this case, the lightening will proceed unevenly, and the filling areas will stand out even more. Only changing the fillings will improve the situation.

Before whitening your teeth at home, we recommend that you undergo hygienic teeth cleaning with ultrasound in the dental office. Such cleaning is not only absolutely safe, but also effective: it removes plaque, removes tartar, and brightens teeth by half a tone. Ultrasonic hygienic cleaning is excellent as a preliminary step for further whitening at home, since, for example, tartar cannot be removed on your own.

In addition, the dentist will be able to tell you whether you can have whitening and how to whiten your teeth at home, and recommend new products in whitening.

How to whiten teeth at home?

There are three options: traditional whitening methods, whitening toothpastes and new products in home teeth whitening (gels, strips, trays, etc.). Let's look at each method from the point of view of effectiveness and safety.

Unfortunately, there are practically no absolutely safe whitening methods - all whitening methods, one way or another, affect tooth enamel. Therefore, we will start with the least harmful methods, and talk about those that you definitely should not use.

Traditional methods of whitening

  1. The safest and most delicious folk method is to rub your teeth with fresh strawberries or wild strawberries. Fruit acids contained in berries, at least a little, lighten teeth.
  2. Activated carbon will help us. Activated carbon bleaching is best done before a special situation, for example, before a date. In this case, you need to crush a charcoal tablet, rub it on your teeth and rinse your mouth. The one-time method is practically safe.
  3. Lemon peel. Rub your teeth with it, and to clean the interdental space, chew the crust. Also, rinsing the mouth with lemon juice diluted with water brightens and disinfects. It's relative safe method with healthy teeth, and if you do not use it too often.

Unfortunately, other traditional methods, especially the widely recommended ones - whitening with soda or hydrogen peroxide, are very harmful to teeth. Baking soda is an abrasive substance that simply scratches our teeth. Peroxide can even affect the structure of the tooth - it can thin and destroy the enamel. And if used incorrectly, gum burns can occur.

Whitening with toothpastes.

Whitening toothpastes fall into two broad categories:

1. Pastes that contain only abrasive and polishing components, as well as enzymes that break down plaque. Such pastes are more suitable for preserving and maintaining the whiteness of teeth, since they break down and remove pigment plaque only from the surface of the tooth. Although abrasive toothpastes are considered safer than pastes of the second group, however, you should be careful, since prolonged use of abrasive pastes leads to abrasion of the enamel. Such pastes are not suitable for people with increased abrasion and tooth sensitivity, except for certain pastes containing enzymes: papain, polydon, bromelain. Such enzymes are contained, for example, in SPLAT “Bleaching Plus”. But pastes that remove pigment plaque are especially recommended for smokers.

Examples of abrasive-polishing toothpastes: Blendamed “3D White”, LACALUT “White” and “White & repair”, SPLAT “Whitening Plus”, SILCA “Arctic White”, Colgate “Complex Whitening”, New Pearl “Whitening” and “Gentle” bleaching", SILCA "Arctic White", R.O.C.S. “Sensational Whitening” and “Delicate Whitening”.

2. The second large group is “aggressive” pastes containing carbamide peroxide, a chemical compound. These are the pastes can lighten teeth by 1-2 shades . Carbamide peroxide interacts with water in the mouth, turns into active oxygen, and is able to penetrate “inside” the tooth. Despite the fact that lightening with active oxygen-based pastes is considered relatively safe, their use still weakens tooth enamel. Therefore, during home whitening with toothpastes, strict dental hygiene is recommended. And after the course (long-term use of such pastes is strictly prohibited), it is advisable to brush your teeth with calcium-based pastes for 1-2 months and use rinses with sodium fluoride to strengthen the enamel.

Before using such pastes, it is advisable to visit a dentist and have him agree to whitening, since you must make sure that you do not have caries or periodontal disease. In addition, if you have not had deposits and tartar removed by a doctor first, your teeth may become unevenly lightened and stained. And, of course, you can only whiten your natural teeth; crowns can also differ in color. Examples of such pastes: SPLAT “Extreme White”, “REMBRANDT Plus”, ROCS PRO “Oxygen Whitening”.

New products in whitening.

Relative novelties in teeth whitening include whitening gels, strips, serums, whitening pens and pencils that appeared several years ago.

For example, Crest 3 D White whitening strips are now being actively advertised. How to whiten teeth at home using them? The set consists of 20 strips, which are recommended to be used daily, sticking one strip on the top and bottom rows. Keep on teeth for 30 minutes. These strips contain hydrogen peroxide.

An interesting new product is the Hollywood Smile To-Go Pen, a teeth whitening pen. Contains: glycerin, carbomer, peppermint oil, triethanolamine, and the same hydrogen peroxide – 6%. In fact, only the application method changes: scroll the end of the pen clockwise until the whitening agent appears, apply it to the surface of the teeth for 20 minutes, Spread evenly over the entire surface and rinse with water.

Despite manufacturers' assurances about the safety of such products, you should think twice before using strips, gels and pens for whitening at home. Almost all of them bleach using hydrogen peroxide. , only its percentage changes. And as you already understand, peroxide is a real aggressor to your teeth. Teeth may become overly sensitive after this type of whitening due to the wearing off of the enamel. Your gums may be damaged if they are exposed to the product, and you may also experience uneven whitening results.
