Novo-passit tablets - official instructions for use. Novo-Passit - indications, contraindications, side effects Taking Novopassit in tablets

Navigation

With increased excitability of the body, in order to reduce irritability and anxiety, as well as to facilitate the process of falling asleep, you can take Novopassit. This is a medicine based on natural plant extracts with a pronounced sedative effect. Despite the absence of aggressive chemical components in the composition, experts recommend strictly following the instructions for use of Novopassit. It is allowed to resort to course therapy only if there are appropriate indications, following the doctor’s prescriptions.

Composition of "Novopassit"

The main active ingredient of the drug is guaifenesin. This is a moderate anxiolytic - a psychotropic drug that can reduce emotional stress, suppress unreasonable fear or anxiety, and combat anxiety. Medicines based on it are often prescribed to patients with neuroses as part of complex therapy. When starting to take the drug "Novopassit", you must take into account that the drug is represented by only one trade name. There are no products with the prefix “Forte” or “Night”.

Plant extracts in the medicine, composition of the drug:

  • valerian officinalis – enhances inhibitory processes in the central nervous system, reducing its excitability. Eliminates anxiety, agitation, makes it easier to fall asleep. The substance relieves spasms of muscles and walls of blood channels, helping to improve blood circulation in the internal organs;
  • lemon balm - has the properties of valerian, additionally eliminating the feeling of depression, uplifting the mood;
  • St. John's wort - calms, suppresses fears, eliminates symptoms of depression, improves sleep quality, makes a person more mentally stable;
  • hawthorn monopistillate - has a beneficial effect on the functioning of the heart by improving blood flow in its tissues, lowering high blood pressure;
  • passionflower – relieves stress, makes it easier to fall asleep;
  • common hops – normalizes the functioning of the heart muscle, relieves spasms, acts as a sleeping pill;
  • black elderberry – relieves discomfort in the body, fights inflammation, helps remove excess fluid from tissues.

Each extract not only performs its main function, but also further enhances the actions of the other components. Due to the cumulative effect, it is possible to achieve a pronounced sedative result. Additionally, depending on their dosage forms, the drugs contain chemical additives. They affect the rate of absorption of the drug in the gastrointestinal tract, provide it with a certain structure, extend the shelf life, and simplify the storage process.

Release form

The medicine is presented in only two dosage forms. There are no Novopassit capsules, drops, or lozenges. When we talk about syrup, we mean the liquid version of the product.

Release form of the drug:

  • tablets are oval, green-colored dragees, convex on both sides, with a line in the center. Available in blisters or polyethylene containers. Each tablet contains 200 mg of the main active ingredient and 157.5 mg of plant extracts in dry form;
  • solution - the structure of the mass is more like liquid syrup. The color is brown, the presence of a red tint is allowed. The composition can be cloudy or transparent, this does not affect the therapeutic characteristics. Due to the natural nature of the composition, a slight sediment falls on the bottom, which disappears after shaking. The product is packaged in dark glass bottles of 100 or 200 ml, which are supplied with a measuring cap. The therapeutic dose of the product (5 ml) contains 200 mg of the active component, 387.5 mg of extracts in liquid form.

When choosing a dosage form, it is important to remember that the Novopassit solution contains 96% ethyl alcohol. In a single dose, its volume is insignificant. The substance does not affect the functioning and condition of internal organs, but in a number of diseases this must be taken into account.

pharmachologic effect

"Novopassit" is a sedative, a mild antidepressant. It relieves anxiety, helps to calm down, suppresses panic or fear. The listed effects are achieved through a combined effect on the body. The components in the medicine simultaneously stimulate centers in the brain, relax smooth muscles, and normalize blood flow to the internal organs. When taken as a course, the drug eliminates headaches associated with overexertion, insomnia, and increased muscle tone.

The medicine begins to act immediately after entering the digestive tract. As they penetrate into the bloodstream, natural components begin to disintegrate in the liver and are neutralized. After a single use, the medication is completely eliminated from the body within 24 hours by the kidneys.

Indications for use

The calming properties of Novopassit can be used in the fight against various diseases. Depending on the diagnosis, the patient is prescribed monotherapy or a comprehensive treatment regimen is selected.

Indications for use of the drug:

  • senile neurotic disorders – older age is characterized by a change in a person’s mental state and his emotional background. Taking the medicine allows you to relieve increased excitability, cope with apathy, lethargy, irritability and conflict. A lasting effect is achieved only by combining drug therapy with psychological therapy;
  • neurasthenia - the medicine will help in treating the consequences of mental disorders caused by chronic stress or lack of sleep, overwork. It will relieve symptoms such as unmotivated aggression, irritability, fatigue during physical activity or mental work;
  • Tension headaches – in combination with specialized therapy, the medication will relieve cephalalgia caused by prolonged exposure to an uncomfortable position and impaired blood flow. Taking Novopassit relieves headaches after a stroke or traumatic brain injury;
  • a number of gastrointestinal diseases - a sedative shows good results in irritable bowel syndrome. The treatment is effective for patients suffering from mental disorders, which is observed in a quarter of all cases. The clinical picture of the disease is represented by abdominal pain, bloating, too rare or frequent bowel movements, strong urge without subsequent bowel movement;
  • itchy dermatoses - skin diseases are often a consequence of disruption of the nervous system. They arise against a background of stress, overload, lack of sleep, and anxiety. The result is severe itching in different parts of the body, which is not relieved by antihistamines, creams, and medicinal ointments. Therapy should be comprehensive - the use of sedatives is supplemented with the use of antiseptics and anti-inflammatory drugs;
  • specific manifestations of menopause - irritability, headaches, discomfort in the face or neck;

You will learn about the development of cephalalgia against the background of menopause and the treatment of pathology

Novopassit is often prescribed for insomnia or decreased quality of sleep. If you take the product at night, it will simplify the process of falling asleep by relaxing the body, reduce the frequency of awakenings, and relieve the feeling of weakness in the morning. The medication will not give the desired result if the work and rest schedule is not adjusted simultaneously with therapy. The natural product will not eliminate the effects of lack of sleep, but will reduce its negative impact on the brain.

Contraindications

The natural composition of the product minimizes the list of prohibitions on its use. The decision on the advisability of drug treatment in each case is made by the doctor, taking into account the specifics of the situation.

Absolute contraindications to the use of Novopassit:

  • individual intolerance to components - an allergy to a medicine can manifest itself in the form of “classic” signs or ordinary weakness, dizziness. Any discomfort after taking the drug is an indication to refuse further treatment and requires a doctor’s assessment;
  • myasthenia gravis - muscle weakness, decreased fiber tone, fatigue under the influence of Novopassit can increase many times over. Ignoring the prohibition even threatens to stop breathing due to the muscles losing the ability to contract;
  • age under 12 years - the components of the medicine inhibit processes in the brain. In the case of children, this can lead to problems with learning, memorizing information, and general development;
  • alcohol dependence - applies only to a solution containing alcohol.

Additionally, experts identify a number of relative contraindications to taking Novopassit. This list includes epilepsy, liver dysfunction, acute processes on the mucous membrane of the digestive organs. The drug is prescribed with caution after head injuries or if brain diseases are suspected.

Side effects

The most common type of negative reaction to Novopassit is an allergy. The abundance of natural components of plant origin makes the product potentially dangerous for people with increased body reactivity. The immune response usually appears within a few minutes after taking the drug.

Possible side effects of the drug:

  • disruptions in the functioning of the digestive system - the irritant effect of the components on the mucous membrane leads to activation of gastrointestinal motility. This manifests itself in the form of heartburn, nausea, loose stools or diarrhea. Abdominal pain or vomiting is very rare;
  • functional disruptions of the central nervous system - people who are especially susceptible to sedatives may experience signs of depression, lethargy, lethargy, and problems with concentration;
  • muscle weakness - a decrease in physical strength is considered a natural reaction of the body to taking a sedative. In some cases, the symptom is excessive, which is an indication for reducing the therapeutic dose or refusing further therapy;
  • Tremors and convulsions are an extremely rare consequence of taking the medication. It usually occurs in people with epilepsy who ignore a direct ban on using the product.

In rare cases, side effects such as increased fatigue and decreased performance develop. In response to them, the doctor can choose an individual method of using the drug. If the symptoms do not interfere with leading a normal lifestyle, the course is usually completed.

Instructions for use of "Novopassit": method and dosage

Despite the natural composition and relative safety, adults should not start a therapeutic course on their own. It is better to consult a therapist or neurologist and get diagnosed.

After identifying the source of the problem, the specialist will select a dosage form, set a schedule and duration of taking the drug.

Rules and nuances of treatment with Novopassit:

  • the product is used only internally;
  • according to the universal scheme, the product in tablets or solution is taken three times a day;
  • the minimum single dose is 1 tablet or 5 ml of syrup;
  • depending on the indications, the dosage can be increased by a doctor by 2 times;
  • tablets are washed down with drinking water in a volume of 100 ml, the syrup is consumed in its pure form;
  • The medication can be taken before or after meals, this does not affect the therapeutic effect;
  • the volume of the solution drunk should not exceed 30 ml per day;
  • the interval between approaches should be at least 4-6 hours;
  • if taking the composition causes nausea, you can try drinking the medicine with meals;
  • If signs of depression or decreased performance appear, it is recommended to use basic doses of the product during the day, and after waking up and before going to bed, only half the universal volume.

The course of treatment with the drug ranges from 2 weeks to 1.5 months. The timing is set individually depending on the diagnosis and adjusted in accordance with the positive dynamics. If within 7 days from the start of therapy the expected effect of the medicine does not appear, you should consult a doctor about the advisability of continuing treatment.

Overdose

The duration of therapy and dosage of the product can only be adjusted by a doctor. Violating the rules for taking the drug can lead to serious complications. In some cases, they develop already against the background of a single dose of triple the standard amount of the drug. If at least one of the alarming symptoms appears, you must call an ambulance. Before its arrival, it is recommended to rinse the victim’s stomach, and then give activated carbon in the amount of 1 tablet per 10 kg of body weight.

An overdose of Novopassit is characterized by the following symptoms:

  • pathological drowsiness - appears suddenly and gradually increases if no action is taken;
  • lethargy – as a result of central nervous system depression, the patient’s attentiveness decreases and reactions slow down;
  • depression - a person reacts poorly to external stimuli, is not interested in anything, feels emotional emptiness;
  • decrease in muscle strength - may have varying degrees of severity, some patients lose the ability to do usual activities;
  • nausea, vomiting - occur in response to irritation of the gastrointestinal mucosa or become an attempt by the body to get rid of the irritant.

It is not recommended to take the medicine for longer than the time prescribed by your specialist. The drug increases the strength of heart contractions, reducing their frequency. This can be dangerous for people with bradycardia and low blood pressure.

Interaction

The simultaneous use of Novopassit with other medications may affect the severity of the effect of the latter. For this reason, it is not recommended to start taking a sedative while taking any medications until you have received permission from your doctor.

Interaction with other drugs can give the following results:

  • muscle relaxants – increases the risk of developing muscle weakness;
  • drugs with ethanol – central nervous system depression;
  • hormonal contraceptives – the effectiveness of contraceptives is reduced;
  • immunosuppressants – the effect of the products is weakened;
  • anticoagulants, heart medications, medications for the treatment of AIDS - the results of using the products change or decrease.

Novopassit can be taken in combination with most other sedatives of natural and chemical nature. Dosages, schedules, combinations should be selected by a doctor.

Terms of sale

Both forms of the drug are available in pharmacies without prescriptions.

Storage conditions and shelf life

The solution and tablets should be kept in a dark place away from sunlight. The optimal temperature is 10-25°C. Violation of the rules for storing the drug can lead to food poisoning. The shelf life of the product is 4 years.

Analogues of "Novopassit"

Pharmacies offer a variety of sedatives that can become a high-quality replacement for Novopassit. One of the most common analogues is “Persen”. This product contains exclusively herbal ingredients, but has a less powerful healing effect. If we compare the product with Afobazol, it is more effective in combating insomnia and the effects of stress. The replacement will be adequate if neuroses, panic attacks, and anxiety conditions are being treated. It is not entirely correct to compare Novopassit with Glycine. The latter is more effective for anxieties and fears against the background of a failure of metabolic processes in the brain matter and circulatory disorders in the cranium.

“Novopassit” or “Tenoten” – which is better?

These two drugs differ significantly in their type of action, indications, and purposes of use. Tenoten is a nootropic with psychotropic properties. The drug is prescribed to eliminate anxiety and fear in diseases of the brain. Its active ingredients stimulate cellular metabolism and increase tissue resistance to negative external factors. This medicine is useless in the fight against insomnia against the background of psycho-emotional problems. Unlike Novopassit, it does not cause drowsiness, is approved for use in childhood, and does not reduce concentration.

"Novopassit" for children

The drug is strictly prohibited for children under 12 years of age. The use of the composition for the treatment of newborns or infants can have an unpredictable effect on the still imperfect nervous system. If the medicine is given to children of preschool or school age, this threatens to inhibit the development of parts of the nervous system, problems with behavior, and learning.

In the case of adolescents, the medication can prevent the development of neuroses, the risk of which increases during puberty. Preventive courses are carried out up to 3 times a year, their duration is 2-4 weeks. When choosing a dosage form of a product, you should be guided by the patient's preferences. More often, doctors recommend taking pills to prevent alcohol from entering the child’s body.

"Novopassit" during pregnancy and lactation

There is no evidence that the component can penetrate into the fetus through the mother’s blood. At the same time, the manufacturer of the product warns that its use after conception is undesirable. An additional risk factor is the drug's ability to lower blood pressure. Such consequences during pregnancy threaten to impair blood circulation in the placenta, which will negatively affect the overall development of the child.

During lactation it is also recommended to refrain from taking the medication. The components of the drug can pass into breast milk in small amounts. The amount of active substances entering the child’s body will be negligible, but this is enough for the baby to develop allergies. After a single dose of Novopassit, you can return to lactation within a day; during course therapy, you should wait at least 3-5 days.

What kind of drug is Novo-Passit?

Novo-passit is a medicinal product based on herbal components, which when taken orally has a calming effect. This is manifested by a decrease in irritability and anxiety, as well as an easier process of falling asleep. The drug is prescribed for the treatment and prevention of various diseases associated with increased nervous excitability.

Composition and mechanism of action of novo-passit

The main active components of novo-passit are extracts of various medicinal plants. At the same time, the drug contains some additives that ensure long-term storage of the medication, and also affect the absorption of active substances in the gastrointestinal tract.

The active components of novo-passit are:
  • Valerian officinalis rhizome extract. The essential oils, tannins and organic acids contained in the plant have a special effect on the central nervous system ( particularly on nerve cells in the brain), enhancing inhibitory processes in them. This leads to a decrease in the excitability of the central nervous system ( central nervous system), as a result of which phenomena such as excitement, anxiety, nervousness, and so on disappear, that is, the person calms down. As a result of all this, the process of falling asleep is easier, especially if before this the person has not slept for a long time due to increased nervous excitability. It is also worth noting that valerian rhizome extract has a certain antispasmodic effect ( that is, it relaxes excessively contracted muscles of the internal organs), which improves blood circulation in them.
  • Lemon balm herb extract. The effects of lemon balm at the central nervous system level are similar to those of valerian. The drug enhances inhibitory processes in the brain, thereby reducing increased nervous excitement and facilitating the process of falling asleep, as well as providing a certain anxiolytic effect ( reduces anxiety, restlessness and other experiences caused by various stressful situations). In addition, lemon balm extract has a certain antidepressant effect, that is, it improves mood if a person is depressed or upset. Melissa, like valerian, has an antispasmodic effect.
  • St. John's wort herb extract. It has a beneficial effect on many parts of the central nervous system, providing a sedative, antidepressant and anxiolytic effect. Eliminates increased nervous excitement, improves mood, normalizes sleep and increases the patient's mental stability.
  • Extract of leaves and flowers of hawthorn monopistillate. Improves blood circulation in the myocardium ( heart muscle), and also enhances the contractility of the heart. In addition, the drug has a moderate calming effect and also reduces excessively high blood pressure ( especially if it has increased as a result of a stressful situation).
  • Passiflora herb extract ( passionflower). Has a calming and mild hypnotic effect.
  • Common hop fruit extract. It has a calming, antispasmodic and mild hypnotic effect, and also improves the functioning of the cardiovascular system.
  • Black elderberry flower extract. It has anti-inflammatory, mild analgesic and mild diuretic effects.
  • Guaifenesin. A pharmacological drug that has a moderate anxiolytic effect. As part of combination therapy, it is used to treat various neuroses and anxiety conditions.
When all of these substances are taken simultaneously, they are sedative, antispasmodic and cardiotonic ( improving the functioning of the cardiovascular system) the effects are summed up, as a result of which the drug novo-passit exerts its therapeutic effect.

Forms of release of novo-passit

The drug is available in several dosage forms, which allows it to be used in different doses and for treating people of different ages.

Novo-passit tablets

These are oval, biconvex tablets of a greenish color, divided in the center by a shallow score. They are produced in special blisters ( records), each of which contains 10 hermetically sealed tablets. One package may contain 1 or 3 blisters ( that is, 10 or 30 tablets respectively). The drug can also be sold in special polyethylene jars ( 60 tablets each).

Each Novo-Passit tablet contains:

  • Guaifenesin– 200 mg.
  • Dry plant extracts– 157.5 mg ( in this case, the total mass of all the above listed herbal components included in 1 tablet is indicated).

Novo-passit solution

Novo-passit in the form of a solution is available in special darkened bottles with a capacity of 100 or 200 ml. Each bottle is sold in a cardboard box, which comes with instructions, as well as a special measuring cap on which the different volumes are marked ( 2.5 ml, 5 ml, 7.5 ml and 10 ml). The solution itself is a dark, syrupy, red-brown liquid with a characteristic odor.

5 ml of novo-passit solution contains:

  • Guaifenesin– 200 mg.
  • Liquid plant extracts (listed above) – 387.5 mg.

Novo-passit syrup and drops

In this case, we mean the same solution of the drug, which some patients call syrup. Novo-passit in the form of drops ( with special measuring pipette) is also not available, but it is worth noting that if you lose the measuring cap, you can calculate the dose of the medication yourself, taking into account that 1 ml of liquid contains approximately 20 drops ( measured using a pipette).

Does Novo-Passit contain alcohol?

The drug in the form of a solution contains 96% ethyl alcohol ( ethanol), which accounts for about 12%. Single dose of the drug ( 5 milliliters) contains approximately 480 mg ethanol. Taking such a dose of alcohol has virtually no effect on the functions of vital organs ( brain, liver, kidneys and so on).

Is Novo-Passit available in capsules?

Novo-passit is not available in capsules. All currently available forms of the drug are tablets and solution.

Novo-passit forte and novo-passit night

Such drugs do not exist today. The fact is that many patients mistakenly compare Novo-Passit with Persen, a sedative herbal medicine that is actually available in the form of capsules called Persen Forte or Persen Night.

Analogues of novo-passit ( What can replace Novo-Passit?)

Today on the market there are many drugs of herbal or synthetic origin that have similar medicinal effects ( sedative, hypnotic, cardiotonic and so on). These drugs can be used if novo-passit is ineffective, as well as if there are contraindications to its use.

Instructions for use of novo-passit

Novo-Passit can be bought at a pharmacy without a doctor's prescription and taken independently, while observing the doses and frequency of administration recommended in the instructions.

Indications for use of novo-passit

The drug can be used to treat various pathological conditions accompanied by increased nervous excitability, sleep disturbances, increased anxiety and restlessness.

The main indications for the use of novo-passit are:
  • Neurasthenia. A mental disorder that develops as a result of exposure to psycho-emotional trauma, prolonged overwork, chronic lack of sleep, and so on. It manifests itself as increased irritability, aggressive behavior, and rapid fatigue when performing physical or mental work.
  • Neurotic disorders in old age. In the process of aging, a restructuring of a person’s mental state occurs, which can manifest itself as passivity, lethargy, lack of interest in life or, conversely, irritability, conflict, and pickiness. In the first case, qualified medical intervention, including drug and psychological therapy, is often required. At the same time, with increased nervous excitability and irritability, novo-passit can have a pronounced therapeutic effect.
  • "Manager Syndrome" It develops in people whose work involves great responsibility, as well as frequent conflict situations and emotional stress. It manifests itself as a constant feeling of anxiety and fear, irritability, disruption of the process of falling asleep and frequent awakenings at night.
  • Irritable bowel syndrome. This is a functional bowel disease in which patients complain of constant or recurrent abdominal pain, bloating, and rare ( less than 3 times a week) or too frequent ( more than 3 times a day) chair. They also often have imperative ( overly strong) the urge to defecate, not accompanied by bowel movements. It is important that more than 25% of such patients have mental disorders ( which is manifested by anxiety, panic attacks, irritability, and so on). It is to eliminate these manifestations that novo-passit can be used ( as part of complex therapy).
  • Itchy dermatoses. This is a group of chronic skin diseases resulting from dysfunction of the nervous system. Frequent stress, constant nervous tension, mental and emotional overload, and so on can contribute to the development of pathology. The disease manifests itself with severe itching ( burning) in various parts of the body, as a result of which a person can scratch the skin until it bleeds. Treatment consists of the use of anti-inflammatory and antiallergic drugs, as well as the normalization of the patient’s mental state ( To do this, you can take Novo-Passit or other medications with a similar effect).

Novo-passit for insomnia

Insomnia is characterized by difficulty falling asleep, frequent awakenings at night, and a feeling of tiredness immediately after waking up. The cause of the development of this condition may be stress, chronic fatigue, emotional overload, and so on. Taking Novo-Passit has a calming effect, thereby eliminating worries and anxiety caused by the listed factors. In addition, due to the activation of inhibitory processes in the brain, the drug facilitates falling asleep and normalizes night sleep ( that is, it prevents frequent awakenings at night).

Contraindications to the use of novo-passit

The drug consists almost entirely of extracts of various plants, as a result of which there are relatively few contraindications to its use.

Taking Novo-Passit is absolutely contraindicated:

  • If you are allergic to the components of the drug. Allergy is characterized by a dysfunction of the immune system, as a result of which, when any specific substance enters the body, an overly expressed immune system develops. allergic) reactions. Manifestations of allergies may be local ( redness and swelling of the skin, urticaria, itching) or system ( nausea and vomiting, decreased blood pressure, headaches, dizziness, loss of consciousness and so on). If a patient is intolerant to at least one of the components of novo-passit, he is strictly prohibited from taking this drug. If after taking the medication a person begins to feel weakness, dizziness or any other unpleasant symptoms, you should stop further use of the drug and consult your doctor.
  • For myasthenia gravis. This is a chronic disease in which the transmission of nerve impulses from motor neurons to muscle cells is disrupted ( Normally, it is this process that provides all voluntary muscle contractions). As a result, there is a pronounced decrease in muscle tone, muscle weakness, as well as rapid fatigue when performing any physical work. The use of novo-passit in this case is contraindicated, since due to its inhibitory effect at the level of the central nervous system, it will lead to an even more pronounced decrease in muscle strength, which can cause extremely unfavorable consequences. The most dangerous of these may be respiratory arrest ( due to the inability to contract the respiratory muscles) and death, but this phenomenon occurs extremely rarely if a patient with severe myasthenia gravis takes a very large dose of the drug.
  • Children under 12 years old. As mentioned earlier, the active components of the drug have an effect at the level of the central nervous system, promoting the activation of inhibitory processes in the brain. All this can adversely affect a growing child’s body, in particular the ability to learn and remember information. That is why it is highly not recommended for children under 12 years of age to take this drug. If necessary, it is better to use other, “softer” sedatives.

Is it possible to take Novo-Passit during pregnancy?

The use of the drug during pregnancy is undesirable, as this may adversely affect the condition of the mother or fetus. To date, there is no scientific evidence that any active substances of the drug penetrate from the mother’s bloodstream into the child’s body and have a negative effect on it. However, the possibility of this phenomenon cannot be excluded. At the same time, it is worth remembering that novo-passit has a pronounced hypnotic and sedative effect, which can often be accompanied by a decrease in blood pressure. If it ( pressure) while it was initially low ( less than 110/70 millimeters of mercury), after taking the medication, a further decrease in these indicators may be observed. This, in turn, can lead to poor circulation in the placenta ( a special organ that ensures the transfer of oxygen from the mother’s body to the developing fetus) and cause developmental disorders in the child.

It is also worth remembering that the use of medications during pregnancy can lead to the unborn child developing an allergy to some of them. That is why only a doctor should prescribe Novo-Passit to pregnant women, having previously assessed the possible risks and taken measures to prevent possible complications.

Is it possible to drink Novo-Passit while breastfeeding ( lactation)?

It is not recommended to take this drug while breastfeeding, since some of its active substances ( for example, components of valerian extract, and also possibly guaifenesin) can pass into the mother's breast milk and enter the baby's body with it. Despite the fact that the dose of drugs entering the child’s body will be negligible, this can lead to sensitization ( that is, to increase sensitivity) the child’s immune system to these substances, which can cause the development of allergies.

It is also worth noting that with prolonged use of this drug, its active components may remain in the body for several days. That is why, after stopping treatment, it is recommended to resume breastfeeding no earlier than 3 to 5 days later.

Can Novo-Passit be used for weight loss?

Novo-passit is a drug that has a sedative and hypnotic effect. It is used to treat diseases associated with increased nervous excitability. The medication has virtually no effect on metabolism in the body and does not contribute to weight loss. It is highly not recommended to take the medicine in large doses in order to exploit its side effects ( such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea) for weight loss, as this can lead to the development of dangerous complications.

Can I drink coffee while using Novo-Passit?

Drink coffee or other caffeinated drinks ( for example tea) during the course of treatment is not recommended, as this may reduce the effectiveness of the drug. The fact is that coffee has a stimulating effect at the level of the central nervous system, as well as the cardiovascular system. This is manifested by mental agitation, insomnia ( when taking large doses of caffeine), increased mental and motor activity, as well as increased heart rate and increased blood pressure. In this case, almost all the effects of novo-passit are reduced or completely eliminated ( that is, sedative, hypnotic and cardiotonic), that is, the treatment is in vain.

Compatibility of Novo-Passit and alcohol

Drinking alcoholic beverages during treatment with novo-passitis is not recommended. The fact is that this drug potentiates ( enhances) the effect of ethyl alcohol, which is part of absolutely all alcoholic beverages. This may manifest itself as an overly pronounced sedative and hypnotic effect, which may pose a danger to the patient's health. A person may fall asleep on the street, in the cold, or while driving ( even if you took a relatively small dose of alcohol). That is why you should not drink alcoholic beverages during the entire course of treatment, as well as for 5 to 7 days after its completion.

Is it possible to take Novo-Passit while driving ( when driving a car)?

The active components of the drug activate inhibitory processes in the central nervous system, which leads to slower reactions, dulling of attention and decreased ability to concentrate on complex tasks. All of the above qualities are absolutely necessary for driving a vehicle. That is why, while using this medication, you should refrain from driving a car, as well as from work that requires increased concentration and quick responses ( for example, the work of an air traffic controller, a police officer, etc.).

Novo-Passit for children

Giving Novo-Passit to newborns or infants is strictly prohibited, since their central nervous system is still very “weak”, as a result of which the use of this medication can lead to the most dire consequences. Also, the drug is contraindicated in children under 12 years of age, since before this age there is intensive development of almost all parts of the nervous system of the body. The use of medication at this age can negatively affect the child’s learning and development processes.

For children over 12 years of age, Novo-Passit is prescribed in the same doses as adults. However, it is worth remembering that in the case of malnourished, too thin or weakened children ( for example, after severe chronic diseases, after operations, etc.) the dose of the drug should be reduced.

Novo-Passit for teenagers

In today's world, teenagers face a lot of stress every day ( problems at school, adolescence and related conflicts with parents, teachers, friends, and so on). All this can lead to “overload” of their nervous system and cause the development of neuroses, panic attacks, anxiety disorders, and so on. Prophylactic use of novo-passit in short courses ( 2 – 3 times a year for 2 – 4 weeks) allows you to reduce the risk of these conditions occurring in adolescence, while having virtually no effect on the processes of formation of the central nervous system and mental development.

Directions for use and dosage ( How to drink Novo-Passit?)

The drug should be taken orally only. If the medication is used in tablet form, they should be swallowed with a small amount ( 100 ml) warm boiled water. Novo-passit solution should be taken undiluted, measuring the required dose using a measuring cap. After swallowing the solution, you can wash it down with a few sips of water.

The initial single dose of novo-passit is 1 tablet or 5 ml of solution, which should be taken 3 times a day ( in the morning, at lunch and before bed). If within 3 to 5 days after the start of treatment the patient experiences excessive fatigue or drowsiness, the dose of the medication should be reduced to 2 tablets per day ( to be taken morning and evening) or up to 2.5 ml of solution taken three times a day.

If necessary, the single dose of the drug can be doubled, but before doing this it is better to consult a doctor. The interval between two subsequent doses of the drug should not be less than 4 to 6 hours.

When should you take Novo-Passit - before or after meals?

Initially, it is recommended to use the drug on an empty stomach, 20-30 minutes before meals. This promotes more complete and rapid absorption of the active components of the drug and the rapid development of the therapeutic effect. However, if after taking the drug the patient experiences nausea, heartburn or abdominal pain over the next 15 to 20 minutes, the medicine can be taken with meals, also following the above doses and methods of administration.

After how long ( how fast) does novo-passit work?

The rate of development of the therapeutic effect when taking the drug directly depends on the rate of absorption of its active components in the gastrointestinal tract. Since there are several of these components, it is almost impossible to accurately calculate the moment when each of them begins to act. However, it was found that after a single use of the drug in the recommended dose, a slight sedative effect begins to appear within 30 to 60 minutes, while the hypnotic effect occurs somewhat later.

At the same time, it is worth noting that in order to develop the most pronounced therapeutic effect, the drug should be used for a long time ( minimum 7 – 10 days).

How many ( how long) does novo-passit work?

After a single dose of the drug, the effects it causes reach a maximum after 1.5 - 3 hours. This suggests that the concentration of the active components of the drug in the tissues of the central nervous system has reached its maximum. After this, the active substances begin to gradually be removed from the tissues into the bloodstream, neutralized and removed from the body, as a result of which the severity of the sleeping pills, sedatives and other effects weakens.

It is extremely difficult to calculate the rate of neutralization of all active components of novo-passit. At the same time, it was found that the half-life ( that is, the time during which the concentration of a substance in the blood is halved) for valerian extract and guaifenesin is about one and a half hours. Consequently, approximately 6 to 8 hours after taking the medication, the concentration of its active substances in the blood will become so low that it will have only a slight residual effect on the body.

How long does it take for novo-passit to be eliminated from the body?

Immediately after penetration into the bloodstream, the active components of the drug begin to be neutralized ( mainly in the liver) and excreted from the body ( mainly with urine). It is not possible to calculate the rate of elimination of all active substances of novo-passit. Such data are available only for valerian and guaifenesin.

As stated earlier, the half-life and elimination half-life of valerian is about 1.5 hours. At the same time, complete removal of all components of this plant from the body ( after a single use) can take up to 12 – 20 hours.

The half-life of guaifenesin is approximately 1 hour. After a single use, the drug is completely excreted from the body in the urine ( inactive) during the day.

How long does the course of treatment with novo-passitis last?

The duration of treatment is on average 2 – 6 weeks. In more severe cases, the duration of the course can be increased by the doctor depending on the severity of the patient’s condition, as well as on the effectiveness of the therapy. It is important to remember that if no improvement is observed after self-administration of the medication within 7 days ( that is, irritability or anxiety does not disappear, the process of falling asleep does not become easier, and so on), it is recommended to consult a doctor.

Which Novo-Passit is better - tablets or syrup?

Novo-passit in the form of tablets or syrup contains the same active ingredients, as a result of which it has an identical therapeutic effect. At the same time, it is worth noting that one recommended dose of a solution of extracts of active components is twice as much as in 1 tablet. As a result, the use of the drug in the form of a solution causes a more pronounced hypnotic, sedative and anxiolytic effect.

Side effects of novo-passit

Adverse reactions during treatment with this medication occur relatively rarely, and they go away quite quickly after discontinuation of the drug.

Taking Novo-Passit can be complicated:

  • Dysfunction of the gastrointestinal tract ( Gastrointestinal tract). This is explained by the fact that the active and auxiliary components of the drug can have an irritating effect at the level of the gastrointestinal mucosa, which, in turn, will lead to increased motility. This may include nausea, heartburn, constipation, or diarrhea ( diarrhea), extremely rarely - vomiting or cramping abdominal pain.
  • Violation of the functions of the central nervous system. In some people, taking a regular dose of the drug may have an overly pronounced effect on the neurons of the brain, which will be manifested by lethargy, lethargy, impaired ability to concentrate, and extremely rarely, dizziness.
  • Muscle weakness. A moderate decrease in muscle strength is a natural effect that develops as a result of the drug. At the same time, in some patients this phenomenon may be more pronounced. In this case, it is recommended to reduce the dose of the medication or completely stop using it and consult a doctor.
  • Cramps. An extremely rare side effect, the mechanism of development of which has not been fully established. It is for this reason that the drug is not recommended for people with increased seizure activity ( for example, patients with epilepsy). If after taking the medication the patient begins to experience convulsive muscle twitching ( convulsions), you should immediately place him on the sofa or floor ( so that he does not fall and injure himself) and immediately call an ambulance.

Allergy to novo-passit

Allergic reactions usually occur within a few minutes after taking the drug and may include a generalized skin rash, swelling of the skin in various parts of the body, increased heart rate, a feeling of heat, and so on. If these symptoms appear, further use of the medication without consulting a doctor is unacceptable. For excessive allergic reactions, you can take antihistamines ( cetirizine, suprastin, diphenhydramine). If they are ineffective or if the patient’s condition rapidly deteriorates, an ambulance should be called as soon as possible.

Does Novo-Passit cause drowsiness?

The natural effect of the active components of the drug is to suppress the functions of the central nervous system and cause drowsiness. However, in some cases this phenomenon may be too pronounced ( even when using the permissible dose of medication), which is explained by the individual sensitivity of each person’s body. In this case, you can reduce the single dose of the drug ( for example, take 2.5 ml of solution 3 times a day or 1 tablet 2 times a day). If excessive drowsiness persists after this, it is recommended to interrupt treatment with novo-passit and choose another, weaker sedative.

Is Novo-Passit addictive and dependent?

The active components of the drug do not lead to the development of addiction or dependence, even with prolonged use. After cessation of treatment, all active substances are eliminated from the body within several days without causing any negative effects.

Novo-passit overdose and its consequences

An overdose can occur if you take too much of the drug in a single dose or if you take it too often ( more than 3 times a day) using the standard recommended dose. The adverse reactions that develop in this case are due to the effects exerted by the drug at the level of various organs and systems.

An overdose of novo-passit can manifest itself:

  • Drowsiness. This is one of the first symptoms that is observed when taking a large dose of the drug and develops as a result of excessive inhibition of the functions of the central nervous system ( CNS). Over time, the severity of drowsiness increases, and other characteristic signs of intoxication appear.
  • Depression and lethargy. These symptoms also develop due to depression of the central nervous system.
  • Muscle weakness. This phenomenon can be extremely pronounced in patients suffering from diseases of the neuromuscular system ( for example, myasthenia gravis). An overdose of novo-passit in such people can lead to death ( as a result of respiratory arrest due to weakness of the respiratory muscles).
  • Nausea and vomiting. Initially, these phenomena arise due to irritation of the gastric mucosa, and then as a result of the activation of natural defense systems aimed at removing foreign substances from the body.
If one or more of the above symptoms appear, treatment should immediately begin, consisting of repeated gastric lavage. After this, you should take enterosorbents ( for example, activated carbon at the rate of 1 tablet per 10 kilograms of body weight). These drugs bind toxic substances in the intestines and prevent their further absorption, and also help remove them from the systemic circulation. It is important to remember that an overdose of novo-passit can lead to extremely serious consequences, so if, during gastric lavage, the patient becomes increasingly lethargic, drowsy and lethargic, it is recommended to immediately call an ambulance.

Does novo-passit affect the heart?

Some components of the drug have a cardiotonic effect, that is, they increase the force of heart contractions while simultaneously reducing the heart rate. This significantly improves blood supply to the heart muscle, increasing the delivery of oxygen to muscle cells. At the same time, it is worth remembering that the cardiotonic effect of the drug in severe bradycardia ( that is, when the heartbeat is too rare), and if your blood pressure is too low, it can worsen existing symptoms ( especially in case of overdose).

Does Novo-Passit affect potency?

For potency ( that is, on a man’s ability to perform sexual intercourse) the drug has no effect. At the same time, it is worth considering that the use of this medication is associated with inhibition of central nervous system functions, which can manifest itself as drowsiness, lethargy and an associated decrease in libido. The hormonal levels or functions of the male genital organs are not disturbed in any way, and after discontinuation of the drug, sexual desire is restored within a few days.

Is diarrhea possible? diarrhea) from novo-passit?

As stated earlier, diarrhea ( too frequent acts of defecation, during which liquid, unformed stool is released) may develop with the use of this drug. This effect may be more pronounced when using the medication in tablet form. This is explained by the fact that an additional component of the tablet form of novo-passit is microcrystalline cellulose. When it penetrates the intestines, this substance swells and promotes the accumulation of fluid in the intestinal lumen, which is the cause of diarrhea.

Does Novo-Passit have a diuretic effect?

The extracts of lemon balm and elderberry flowers included in the drug have a weak diuretic effect, that is, they increase the amount of urine produced and excreted. However, when the medication is used in recommended doses, the concentration of the active substances of lemon balm and elderberry in the blood is so small that the described effect practically does not appear.

Novo-passit when planning pregnancy

Women of childbearing age taking Novo-Passit should be aware that this drug reduces the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives - medications used to prevent pregnancy.
