Swelling of the mucous membrane after rhinoplasty. Swelling after rhinoplasty. When will swelling go down after rhinoplasty? Non-compliance with rules after surgery

Swelling of the superficial and deep tissues after rhinoplasty is observed in 100% of patients to varying degrees of severity. Associated with the body’s natural reaction to traumatic outside interference. Postoperative swelling involves not only the nose, but also neighboring areas of the face. Superficial swellings go away quite quickly, deep ones - up to 1 year. That is why it is better to evaluate the final result of rhinoplasty after its expiration.

Tissue swelling after rhinoplasty not applicable to complications caused by the actions of the surgeon or patient. Although, without taking into account the doctor’s recommendations during the rehabilitation period, a person can aggravate his own situation.

What is edema?

Edema is the excessive accumulation of body fluids in soft tissues. They consist of water, protein compounds and other substances. Edema equally affects the skin, mucous membranes and connective tissue.

Stagnant processes after rhinoplasty somewhat deform the nose, giving it visual massiveness, disrupt nasal breathing, and make the voice nasal. You should not be afraid of this - the listed ailments disappear on their own after a short time.

Swelling after rhinoplasty is classified into four types:

  • Primary
  • Secondary
  • Residual
  • Periosteal

Facial swelling after rhinoplasty: what are the causes?

During the operation, the surgeon peels away the skin from the cartilage and soft tissue to create a full surgical field and gain access. This manipulation is also necessary for the subsequent correct distribution of the skin in the desired position.

Skin peeling necessarily damages blood vessels, which naturally has a negative impact on blood supply. It is this problem that is the catalyst for the occurrence of uncomfortable swelling.

The organization of the blood supply system in different layers of the skin is shown in the diagram:

The outflow of blood is slower than the inflow. Therefore, the tissues swell, and the nose itself seems to swell. As blood circulation is restored, the swelling neutralizes on its own.

Primary edema: combat tactics

Intraoperative, or primary edema, begins during the intervention. It often prevents the surgeon from working normally and complicates his actions. Since the popularization of rhinoplasty, doctors have been using various tricks to control swelling during rhinoplasty.

To reduce primary postoperative swelling, the surgeon places a supporting splint (plaster) on the patient’s face, and inserts splints or turundas into the nasal passages. If these steps are not taken, the swelling will reach enormous proportions.

Primary edema is visible to the naked eye. They disappear within 5-12 days after rhinoplasty, depending on the individual characteristics of the body.

Swelling increases sharply after removing the immobilizing bandage. Quite often this frightens patients - they expected a miniature nose, but see the opposite in the mirror. There is no need to worry - remember that any temporary side effects will soon subside.

What is the difference between secondary edema?

Secondary edema, unlike primary edema, is not too noticeable. But the patient clearly feels them.

They are characterized by thickening and expansion of the tissues of the nose from the back to the tip. They can persist for 1-1.5 months and partially block free nasal breathing, especially at night.

Sometimes this provokes real panic in patients - it seems to them that the surgeon did something wrong. Be patient and calm - I guarantee you that this will not last long.

What are the signs of residual swelling after rhinoplasty?

“Residual” edema, as its name suggests, remains after the secondary edema has subsided. It is absolutely invisible, because... localized in deep structures. May manifest as hardness of the tip of the nose. Neutralized within 4-6 months.

In people with thick skin, all swelling takes longer to go away.

Residual swelling goes away more slowly even after secondary rhinoplasty - the surgeon has to work with scar tissue, which is characterized by an already heterogeneous blood supply. The duration of their regeneration is long.

By following your doctor's recommendations, you can stimulate the process of eliminating swelling. But know that you won’t be able to remove it yourself. As a rule, this requires a course of physical therapy.

Factors influencing the level of swelling

The intensity of edema is dictated by various factors:

Technical complexity of the operation

    • Osteotomy. A technique that involves both soft and hard tissues. In everyday language, this is a controlled fracture, after which the face swells with appropriate force. If the surgeon acts incorrectly during osteotomy, inflammation of the periosteum can be provoked, leading to the formation of bone calluses.

    • Plastic surgery of the tip of the nose. From an anatomical point of view, this area of the nose is complex. Trauma to its structures leads to a long recovery. In this case, much depends on the talent and professionalism of the surgeon - the more accurately and carefully he works, the fewer negative consequences the patient expects.

    • Plastic surgery of the wings of the nose. This procedure is the simplest. The tissue is damaged minimally, the discomfort is insignificant, and the swelling goes away within 4-6 months.

    • Septorhinoplasty. During the procedure, both external tissues and the septum are involved, so the traumatism of the operation is average. Therefore, the timing of swelling reduction is standard.

    • Secondary rhinoplasty. Swelling is the most intense. Due to slow regeneration, it takes longer to go away than with the initial correction.

Principle of implementation

    • Closed rhinoplasty causes almost no swelling. But its results are also called into question.

    • Open rhinoplasty is a classic. Swelling after it persists in the traditional manner.

Patient's current age

Young people are rehabilitated much faster - this is explained by the age-related slowdown of regenerative processes.

Skin thickness

A nose with thick skin takes a long time to heal. It has more blood vessels than the thin one. Consequently, injuries are more widespread.

Well-being and health status of the operated patient

Any problems with blood vessels significantly slow down overall healing.

Conscientiousness of compliance with rehabilitation standards

The patient may increase swelling by ignoring the surgeon's recommendations. This occurs due to exercise, sleeping on the side or in a pillow, tilting the head down, smoking, drinking alcohol, and a large amount of salt in the diet.

Surgeon's skill and experience

Using special medications during surgery, a competent surgeon prevents severe swelling.

Measures on the part of the surgeon to prevent swelling after rhinoplasty

The manifestation of edematous processes depends 80% on the anesthesiologist, and not on the surgeon! During the operation and immediately before it, the anesthesiologist administers adrenaline-based drugs that cause transient vascular spasm.

A “dry surgical field” is an ideal option for a surgeon to consistently and correctly achieve the goals and objectives planned before rhinoplasty. And this is the merit of an intelligent anesthesiologist, working with whom is real luck.

It is very important that the surgeon has a professional anesthesiologist! Good surgeons take pride in their team. The bad ones skimp on it.

Conscientious specialists during the manipulations introduce special solutions that neutralize swelling. This is beneficial for both the surgeon and the patient.

Vladislav Grigoryants talks about this in detail in an interview:

What can the patient do to reduce discomfort?

It will not be possible to eliminate postoperative swelling in a week, so you should not count on a miracle.

But in order for the swelling to go away faster, you need to follow some rehabilitation standards:

Preparations for rapid tissue healing after rhinoplasty

Traumeel S (ointments and tablets)

Apply the gel to problem areas of the face twice a day. This will speed up the regeneration process.

Preparations "Traumeel S" belong to homeopathy. They contain extracts of chamomile, calendula, comfrey, mountain arnica, daisy, St. John's wort, yarrow, echinacea, belladonna officinalis and other medicinal herbs.

Important! Despite its over-the-counter availability, you cannot prescribe medications without permission!

Bromelain

Proteolytic enzyme contained in pineapple fruit extract. The active substance has an anti-inflammatory effect. The drug is prescribed in the preparatory period.

Important! The use of the drug must be agreed with your doctor!

Dimexide

A local remedy that has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and analgesic effects.

Important! The medicine is not harmless, has many limitations and can cause complications. It can only be used with the permission of a doctor!

Physiotherapy to relieve swelling after rhinoplasty

Microcurrents

Microcurrents regulate, normalize and stabilize tissue metabolism at the cellular level. The pulse parameters are similar to the strength of biological currents of cell membranes. Microcurrent therapy provides an isolated effect on injured tissue.

Read the details of the procedure and its actions.

Ultraphonophoresis

A session during which a volumetric effect of ultrasonic waves occurs on the skin and tissues. Optimizes blood circulation, stimulates lymph flow, activates proliferation.

The method helps to partially eliminate swelling, but you should not expect instant recovery from it.

Important! Ultraphonophoresis is carried out only in consultation with a doctor.

Therapy for periosteal edema

The periosteum is damaged during rhinoplasty with osteotomy. This tissue, which serves as a kind of shell for the bone itself, concentrates the cells necessary for consolidation.

When bone tissue is involved during rhinoplasty, the periosteum may swell. Without adequate prevention and effective treatment, the membrane becomes inflamed, which subsequently leads to the growth of calluses.

Only a qualified doctor can notice the problem. He will assess the condition of the bone tissue 3-4 weeks after rhinoplasty, and if he notices deviations, he will immediately begin to eliminate them. Inflammation of the periosteum is treated with hormonal drugs administered by injection.

Important! Avoid self-medication and do not use any folk remedies! Popular steaming compresses in this situation can lead to irreversible consequences!

Prevention of swelling of the periosteum

Surgeons prescribe herbal ointments and tablets to prevent the disease. Prescribing therapy on your own is strictly prohibited!

In the first six months after rhinoplasty, it is important to give up corrective glasses and sunglasses - they put pressure on the fracture site and provoke deformations in the bridge of the nose.

With proper therapy, swelling of the periosteum disappears after 7-9 months.

If you decide to undergo surgery to correct the shape of your nose - rhinoplasty - you need to understand that you will have to face the problem of swelling in any case.

Swelling after rhinoplasty of the nose occurs in everyone, the difference is only in the degree of its severity.

The main reason is the specificity of the operation itself: during surgery, detachment of the skin occurs, which is an absolutely necessary condition for creating a new shape of the nose.

When a detachment occurs, the blood vessels are damaged, resulting in decreased blood circulation and fluid outflow.

It is pointless to make a complaint to the surgeon about swelling - this does not depend on his qualifications, but only on the volume of the operation, as well as the individual properties of the patient’s body.

The swelling subsides only when normal tissue blood flow is restored.

After the operation is completed, a plaster cast or a special splint must be applied to contain swelling, while fixing the shape of the nose.

How dangerous is he?

Edema is a natural phenomenon and does not pose any danger.

With proper care and compliance with all medical recommendations, all side effects will disappear in due time, not even a trace will remain of them.

How long does it last?

Nasal swelling appears during surgery (primary), which is dealt with by an experienced surgeon, having a good understanding of the swollen tissues.

Primary - lasts 10 days, waning after about two weeks.

After removing the plaster, generally for a month or a month and a half, the swelling, called secondary, still persists. It is much less pronounced than the primary one:

  • fabrics are slightly thickened;
  • the tip and bridge of the nose are widened.

After two months after rhinoplasty surgery, they talk about residual swelling, which in most cases is no longer noticeable to others.

Stages of the recovery period

The recovery period after rhinoplasty goes through approximately 4 stages.

First week

Thanks to the plaster cast, the swelling on the nose will not be too pronounced, but may spread down to the cheeks and chin.

  1. tilt your head and torso, lift weights;
  2. press on your nose, touch your face with your hands;
  3. sleep on a low pillow: It is better to sleep in a semi-sitting position to increase the flow of blood from the head;
  4. expose your face to high temperatures and hot water (you cannot visit a bathhouse, sauna, warm yourself by the fireplace, and under no circumstances make hot compresses);
  5. use cosmetics (including creams);
  6. take diuretic (diuretic) drugs, since these drugs wash out calcium, and this impairs the healing of postoperative wounds;

Second and third weeks

At the end of the first week:

  1. plaster casts are removed, as well as internal splints and seams;
  2. the internal structures of the nose are washed;
  3. breathing improves;
  4. swelling persists;
  5. the nose is deformed;
  6. Often the swelling is more pronounced compared to the first week after surgery.

By the end of the third week, swelling is usually reduced by half.

During this period you need:

  1. sleep on your back (to prevent fluid accumulation in the soft tissues of the face;
  2. avoid hot air, water, overheating;
  3. Handle your face very delicately when washing, do not rub your nose or put pressure on it;
  4. avoid bending the head, heavy physical labor, intense exercise;
  5. if the swelling is still quite noticeable, you can use lymphatic drainage ointments and gels after consulting a doctor.

Video: Features of rehabilitation

Before the end of the third month

In the period from the third week to the third month, cosmetic recovery occurs, swelling gradually disappears.

But the appearance of the nose is not yet ideal; there is still slight swelling of the tip of the nose and nostrils.

During this period, in order to get into shape as quickly as possible, it is necessary to exclude:

  1. smoking and alcohol abuse;
  2. sleeping on your side and stomach
  3. nose rubbing;
  4. long and frequent head tilts;
  5. wearing glasses that fit tightly to the bridge of the nose.

Up to a year

From the third month to a year, the final stage of recovery continues.

During this period, swelling is almost invisible, and the nose takes on its final shape.

It should be noted that in patients with thick skin, swelling lasts longer than in patients with thin skin. This is explained by the fact that thicker skin requires more nutrition, which means it has a larger number of vessels and veins that will be damaged during the operation. Accordingly, their recovery time will be longer.

How to relieve swelling after rhinoplasty

To quickly get rid of swelling, you need to follow some recommendations.

By performing them, you will not only minimize the risk of complications, but you will be able to quickly enjoy the results of rhinoplasty.

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs also produce a decongestant effect.

Be careful when using vasoconstrictor drops, do not overuse them.

You also need:

  1. Healthy food: first of all, minimize the consumption of salty, sour, spicy foods;
  2. no smoking: Smoking impairs blood circulation, especially in small capillaries, as a result of which the tissues swell more. In addition, smoking can lead to the development of a serious complication in the form of tissue death or necrosis;
  3. eliminate alcohol consumption, especially carbonated alcoholic drinks: champagne, beer, etc.;
  4. remove the source of stress and try to experience as many positive emotions as possible.

Drugs

Various ointments, gels and creams provide a good anti-edematous effect:

  1. Badyaga is an excellent remedy for relieving swelling– product of animal origin;
  2. troxevasin ointment– an antiprotective agent that has a pronounced anti-edematous effect;
  3. drug "Traumel" (ointment, gel)– an excellent homeopathic remedy that has high regenerative properties and is good at reducing swelling.
  4. ointments "Lioton", "Panthenol".

Physiotherapy

Also assigned:

  1. phonophoresis(treatment of the affected area with ultrasound in combination with a drug);
  2. electrophoresis(treatment of the affected area with electric current in combination with a medicine);
  3. phototherapy(the therapeutic effect consists of exposure to a combination of near-infrared and blue ranges on the area of edema).

Traditional methods

Traditional medicine works quite effectively in the fight against swelling:

  1. Good old aloe also helps in this case: you need to cut a leaf of this plant lengthwise and apply the cut to the swollen area;
  2. Dried arnica, which can be drunk as tea, will also help.(brew 2 teaspoons per glass of boiling water) 2 times a day, and also use as compresses;
  3. Compresses based on decoctions of string and chamomile help with swelling of the nose: a piece of bandage or gauze soaked in the broth must be applied to the swollen area for 20 minutes, and the procedure must be continued for at least a week;
  4. the decongestant properties of ginger are known, a piece of the root of which can be thrown into tea leaves, can be brewed as an independent drink - cut about 4 cm of ginger root into thin strips and add 2 liters of water, brew in a thermos, add honey, lemon and drink throughout the day. Ginger should be used with caution; it is not indicated for everyone, in particular, people with high acidity of gastric juice, hypertensive patients, allergy sufferers, etc.

But we must remember that the use of decongestants is temporary.

Only some hormonal-containing medications directly affect the degree of swelling (for example, the injectable drug diprospan).

But the decision to prescribe them can only be made by a doctor! And the best healer for edema is time.

And your patience, which in this case must be shown inevitably, because the truth is that rhinoplasty is a very complex operation, and the recovery period after it is quite long.

Rhinoplasty is a complex but very popular operation in modern plastic surgery. Some people undergo it for medical reasons, while others independently make this decision in order to improve their appearance.

Whatever the reason for surgery, it is important for the patient to prepare in advance for the postoperative period. For example, not everyone is prepared for the fact that swelling after rhinoplasty lasts long enough. What do you need to know about the rehabilitation period? How long does swelling last after rhinoplasty? How to deal with it as quickly as possible?

Despite the fact that the nose is a relatively small area of the body, all operations in this area are complex. During surgery, many small vessels are damaged, and recovery takes time. While the capillaries are damaged, the outflow of fluid is impaired, and swelling forms. Only after the blood flow is completely restored will the nose acquire the desired shape.

The time it takes for the swelling to completely subside after rhinoplasty depends on the characteristics of the person’s body and how carefully he listened to the doctors’ recommendations. But it is still possible to distinguish four stages, each of which is characterized by its own timing and features of the appearance of the operated area. Let's look at each of them, as well as how to relieve swelling as quickly and safely as possible.

First

The first period is the shortest - a week after surgery. But it is the most difficult for the patient. The damaged areas of the face are very painful, and the swelling of the nose after the operation is very extensive; it is impossible to externally assess the final result. All this can greatly affect a person’s mood.

Edema begins to form on the operating table. To ensure that it does not greatly interfere with the healing and proper fusion of tissues, a butterfly-shaped plaster bandage is applied to the nose. Therefore, a swelling forms around it, all over the face; the cheeks, forehead, chin, and area near the eyes swell. During the first few days, the swelling continues to increase, sometimes to such an extent that it is difficult to see the patient's eyes.

There is also a postoperative hematoma, the nose hurts very much, you can only breathe through your mouth, and there is a considerable risk that bleeding will begin. Therefore, the first week should definitely be spent in the hospital, under the careful supervision of the attending physician.

Second

The second stage of recovery lasts two weeks. At this time, the bandage is removed, the swelling gradually decreases by at least half, is localized only in the nose area and by the end of the period is very noticeable only to the patient himself. People around you, especially those who did not know about the treatment, may not notice anything.

At this time, if there are no complications, the patient is discharged from the hospital. All hygienic and therapeutic procedures should continue to be performed just as carefully, but at home.

Third

The third period takes place over the next two months. The post-operative wound has already completely healed, does not hurt, there is nothing that could significantly interfere with the usual way of life. Of course, some restrictions still apply, but they are much softer than in previous periods.

The swelling goes away almost completely. Small lumps remain on the tip of the nose and along the back. But this is noticeable only to the patient himself. A few months after the operation, it is already possible to draw conclusions about how well the shape of the nose meets expectations.

Fourth

This is the longest stage. Residual compactions and swelling can normally last up to a year. They are located in those places that were damaged on the operating table. But from the outside it is absolutely invisible.

If a person is not one of those who is very attentive to all the little details of his appearance, he may not even see the remnants of edema himself. They do not cause absolutely any inconvenience either during everyday activities or at work, unless it involves heavy physical exertion and bending.

Treatment of edema

In order to eliminate swelling as quickly as possible, you need to properly care for the wound from the very first day and listen to all recommendations. There are most restrictions in the first weeks, then you can gradually return to your usual way of life.

Medicines, ointments and duration of sick leave are selected individually, but general principles can be identified on how each rehabilitation stage should proceed. You should not expect complete elimination of edema in the first weeks, even if you listen to doctors in everything. But careful care will help prevent the development of complications that could significantly delay the recovery period.

First and second stage

During the first few weeks, the risk of complications is very high. Failure to follow recommendations or carelessness can lead to increased swelling after rhinoplasty, and nosebleeds may even occur.

  • Tips to help you safely navigate the first stages of rehabilitation:

  • Do not touch your face with your hands, especially the bandage area.
  • Under no circumstances should we remove the bandage ourselves.
  • You can sleep with your head elevated, or even half-sitting. In this case, the blood flow to the nose will be minimal. It is forbidden to sleep lying on your stomach.
  • Heavy physical activity is contraindicated, especially if it involves bending forward.
  • It is not advisable to overheat your face. Therefore, you should not go to the bathhouse, sauna, or stand near the stove or heater for a long time.
  • It is necessary to temporarily completely abandon cosmetics, including facial skin care creams.
  • If the bandage has not yet been worn, when washing you need to make sure that it does not get wet.
  • If your doctor allows it, you can apply cold compresses.

It is necessary to carefully monitor the condition of the postoperative wound. If signs of inflammation (suppuration, redness) are added to the swelling, you must immediately tell your doctor about it.

Third and fourth stage

If the first months passed without complications, most likely there will be no more complications. Therefore, restrictions are further reduced; doctors no longer control the condition of the operated person. The wound has healed, the swelling of the nose after rhinoplasty has decreased significantly and does not pose any threat. But there are some recommendations that will help bring closer the time when there will be no traces of swelling left.

What to avoid to avoid slowing down the recovery process:

  1. Smoking, frequent consumption of alcoholic beverages and other bad habits that affect general blood circulation.
  2. Rubbing the nose and other parts of the face that are located next to it.
  3. Applying large amounts of cream and decorative cosmetics to the skin.
  4. Sleep on a low pillow lying on your stomach or side.
  5. Staying in a bent position for a long time. Tilts of both the head and body are undesirable.
  6. The use of medications, especially ointments on the nose and nasal drops, which the doctor did not prescribe.

If all recommendations are followed, the risks of complications after rhinoplasty are low. Even if they appear, it will not be dangerous and will not affect the healing rate if proper treatment is started immediately. Therefore, you should not worry that swelling of the tip of the nose after rhinoplasty does not go away in the first days - this is a normal phenomenon.

Positive and true results of rhinoplasty do not appear immediately after surgery. It takes about a year to completely restore facial tissue. Swelling after rhinoplasty is as normal as hematomas, scars, splints and plaster. How long does swelling last after rhinoplasty and is it possible to remove it faster?

Mechanism of occurrence

Swelling, oddly enough, after rhinoplasty is necessary for the speedy healing of surgical incisions. The accumulation of a large amount of fluid in the subcutaneous tissue promotes the regeneration process and accelerated cell division. Therefore, swelling after rhinoplasty is a normal reaction of the body and it lasts as long as necessary for tissue healing.

Sizes vary depending on the extent of surgery. If bone structures were involved, then, of course, the area of edema becomes larger. Even after non-surgical interventions, the nose and surrounding tissues swell. Although the doctor just injects a gel with a needle, which pushes the structures apart.

How long does swelling last?

The swelling goes away completely, in most patients, within a year. During this time, the patient goes through several stages of rehabilitation. It is worth remembering that swelling goes away for everyone at different rates; it depends on the characteristics of the body, as well as on the correctness of the rehabilitation.

First stage

The duration of this period is one week. The most difficult time psychologically and physically. Swelling begins to form when the surgeon performs the operation, and after that it only increases. To avoid deformation of the operated tissues, a fixing splint or bandage is applied to the nose, so excess fluid accumulates in the area of the eyelids and cheeks.

The volumes of excess fluid can be as large as desired, and in some patients the eyes are invisible.

Already during this period you need to follow the rules:

  • sleep in a half-sitting position; a large pillow placed under your back will help with this;
  • do not tilt your head or body;
  • Do not under any circumstances visit a bathhouse or sauna, or stay in hot rooms;
  • apply cold compresses as recommended by your doctor;
  • do not wet the splint while washing;
  • do not touch your face, do not use care products.

When the first week of rehabilitation passes, the patient is forced to remain in isolation. Doctors should prepare for this in advance.

Second phase

This period lasts two weeks. During this time, with good regenerative abilities of the body, the swelling quickly subsides and becomes noticeable only to the patient.

For accelerated rehabilitation it is necessary:

  • do not sleep on your stomach or side;
  • choose delicate facial care, that is, do not use aggressive cleansers, do not press too hard on the skin when applying makeup;
  • avoid heat exposure;
  • Do not play sports, do not bend over.

At this time, doctors prescribe lymphatic drainage and absorbable gels, but you should not expect a miracle effect from them - the swelling will subside faster, but will not go away forever.

Third stage

This is the period from the second to third month after surgery. In the previous stages, up to 50% of the swelling goes away, which now remains in the form of seals in the tip of the nose and its back. Now it depends on the patient how quickly the remaining part comes off.

To reduce swelling, you must exclude:

  • smoking;
  • drinking alcohol;
  • inactivity;
  • mechanical effects on the nose (wearing glasses, constant scratching);
  • tilts of the body and head;
  • sleeping position on your side or stomach.

As long as the period from the first to the third stage lasts, you cannot expose your face to thermal influences for that long.

Fourth stage

This is the period when inflammation is completely eliminated. Continues from the fourth to the twelfth month of rehabilitation. At this stage, the swelling is no longer noticeable to others; only the patient herself feels the seal in those parts of the nose that were most involved.

For the remaining six months of rehabilitation, you can wait until everything resolves on its own or undergo physical procedures as directed by a doctor. Among them are ultrasound and phonophoresis, which improve tissue microcirculation.

Drugs

Traumeel S (ointment or tablets)

It is used for rapid resorption of hematomas and elimination of edema. Prescribed by a doctor and used twice a day. It is used as long as the second and third stages last.

The gel and tablets contain homeopathic components of chamomile, calendula, echinacea, mountain arnica, comfrey, St. John's wort and some other herbs.

Bromelain

The drug in tablets is prescribed for preventive purposes to prevent severe swelling after surgery. The active component of the product is a pineapple extract containing an anti-inflammatory enzyme.

Taking pills must be agreed with your doctor.

Dimexide

The solution is used to treat swollen areas. The effect of using the drug: pain relief, swelling removal, disinfection.

Dimexide has serious contraindications: kidney and liver diseases, angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, stroke.

Traditional methods

From the second and third stages, you can turn to traditional medicine recipes.

A decoction of mountain arnica can be used as tea or compresses. In any case, two teaspoons are poured into a glass of boiling water and infused.

Take 200 g of pineapple pulp on an empty stomach three times a day. The effect is similar to Bromelain: the active substances contained in pineapple provide an anti-inflammatory effect.

Aloe leaves are applied to swollen areas for several minutes.

Physiotherapy

Microcurrents

The procedure improves metabolism at the cellular level. Microcurrents imitate natural biological impulses passing through healthy tissues of the body. The main advantage is that the device has a targeted effect on specific areas.

Ultraphonophoresis

During this procedure, the skin becomes more receptive to nutrients, blood circulation and exchange within cells are accelerated. The effects are provided by ultrasound. The procedure not only reduces swelling, but rather promotes tissue regeneration.

Swelling of the periosteum

When bones are touched during rhinoplasty, the periosteum, the protective covering of bone tissue, is always damaged.

The danger of injuring the periosteum is that it will swell and, in advanced cases, become inflamed. Due to inflammation, bone growths and calluses form, disfiguring the contour of the nose. You can see the healing process and monitor it from the third or fourth week after surgery. If something goes abnormal, the doctor prescribes hormonal drugs by injection.

The problem can be eliminated only in the first month of healing.

Swelling occurs in everyone who has undergone rhinoplasty. To see your beautiful nose as soon as possible, you must follow all the rules, take prescribed medications, and do not avoid physical procedures.

Rhinoplasty of the nose is one of the most popular aesthetic surgeries. A huge number of women want to undergo plastic surgery, but do not do it because they are afraid of swelling. In this article I will try to talk in as much detail as possible, based on my twenty years of experience, about swelling of the tip of the nose after rhinoplasty.

Why does nasal swelling occur after surgery?

The fact is that the plastic surgeon makes incisions inside the nose. He peels away the tissue to give the tip of the nose a new shape. During this operation, damage occurs to those same tissues and capillaries. During this time, you don’t have to worry about damage to the capillaries. Local anesthesia stops blood circulation and prevents bruising. But after the operation, the tip of the nose is filled with liquid, which is needed for tissue regeneration to occur faster. As soon as the blood supply is restored, the swelling will go away.

What types of nasal swelling occur after rhinoplasty?

Doctors distinguish three types of edema: primary, secondary and residual.

Primary edema appears during and immediately after surgery. The size of this swelling is influenced by two main factors: the professionalism of the surgeon and the type of anesthesia. When using general anesthesia, this swelling goes away much more severely than when using adaptive. , What is the difference.
Primary swelling is the largest of all and lasts 3-4 days. All these days the patient wears a plaster splint, so he does not notice it. On the fifth day, I remove the plaster splint and the happy owner of the new nose sees the swelling at the stage of its reduction.

Secondary edema lasts from two to three months and may be completely invisible to the patient. 2-3 weeks after surgery, I meet with the patient and see how the healing process is going. If everything is fine, patients sometimes don’t even come. But if nasal swelling persists and causes inconvenience, which is extremely rare, the problem can be solved with hormonal injections. Don’t worry, the only thing these drugs affect is the rate of tissue regeneration.

Residual edema lasts for a year and is most often completely invisible. But it is during this year that the final creation of the shape of the nose occurs, which seems to decrease after the operation. It may be slight, but over the long term these are noticeable changes.

What determines the size of nasal swelling after rhinoplasty?

If you have ever had a nose injury, you may have noticed that in the event of mechanical damage to the tissue, the septum swells more. This is due to the fact that the skin on the nasal septum is thinner than at the tip. Visual swelling strongly depends on the thickness of the skin. And if the skin on the tip of your nose is tender and thin, you need to prepare for swelling.

In addition to the thickness of the skin, edema depends on several other factors: the age of the patient, the skill of the surgeon, the type of anesthesia, and compliance with the doctor’s recommendations. By the way, the doctor’s recommendation not to smoke before and after surgery is very important. The fact is that smokers have weak capillaries and, due to their addiction, the recovery process can be delayed until tissue necrosis occurs. If you want to smoke like crazy, stop at 3-5 cigarettes a day. But this is also a compromise and undesirable option.

Is it possible to speed up the recovery process after rhinoplasty?

Yes, of course you can. To do this, you must follow all the surgeon’s recommendations. Eat right, avoid stress, use contact lenses instead of glasses, do not abuse cigarettes and alcohol, do not massage your nose, avoid solariums and saunas for a while and do not overdo it with sports. The main thing is to listen to the surgeon and remember that everything... When your nose takes on a new shape, you simply must bring back into your life all the joys that you had been denying. Almost everything, cigarettes don’t have to be returned :)

Or maybe there are ointments or traditional methods?

Unfortunately, after 20 years of practice, I have found the only ointment that has proven its effectiveness. It's called Skargard. You can purchase it in pharmacies. All other ointments and recovery methods bring a feeling of satisfaction to the patient, but, unfortunately, do not bring results
