Bars drops instructions for use for dogs. Bars is a means for the destruction and prevention of ticks in dogs and cats. How to use drops against ixodid ticks

Moreover, pets that are never taken outside are not guaranteed to be completely protected from this scourge. Experienced cat owners know that the only effective way to protect against skin parasites is timely preventive treatment of their pet. One of the remedies that can be used is a drug called “Bars”.

Composition and release form

The manufacturer of “Bars” flea drops is the Research and Development Center “Agrovetzashchita” (abbreviated name “AVZ”), Russian Federation.

The drug is an oily yellowish flavored liquid. The main active ingredient in Bars drops is fipronil. In addition, the drug also contains diflubenzuron and dicarboximide, but the amount of each of these two substances is ten times less than the main one.

Drops "Bars" are produced separately for and. These drugs, in principle, are interchangeable (in fact, they are one and the same drug), but experts still recommend using the “feline” version for treating cats, and the “feline” version for treatment, since the dosage in them is specially selected for the appropriate species of animal.

The drops themselves are initially packaged by the manufacturer in disposable pipettes made of polymer material. The amount of substance in each is 1 ml.

Important! Drops "Bars" for are packaged in droppers of 1.4 ml, for an adult of average size this is a lot, and for two - very little, which is why, in order to avoid an overdose or a decrease in the protective effect due to an insufficient dose of the product, you should buy drops for the animal for which they are designed.

Pipettes (or droppers) are sold in cardboard boxes of three or four pieces. Each box also contains instructions for using the drug, which, it should be noted, are very clear and informative.
Regardless of how many pipettes are in the box, they are sold individually, so the buyer does not need to stock up on the drug for the entire season - he can buy a single dose necessary to treat the pet, and, if necessary, read the instructions directly in the store.

In addition to the standard form of the drug, drops can also be found on sale "Bars Forte". They cost approximately 30% more, but provide longer-lasting protection, in addition, they contain a pest growth regulator, which further prevents their development on the skin (or).

Did you know? The tick can remain out of contact with the skin for quite a long time, sometimes up to eight hours. As for fleas, the situation is even worse. These bloodsuckers do not need to live on the skin of the “breadwinner” at all; they jump on it only to satisfy their hunger, and these little pests can “starve” for a month or two.

Thus, we can say that Bars drops indicated for almost all cats and kittens over eight weeks, regardless of whether they have access to outdoor exercise.

Advantages of the drug

Among the main advantages of the drops are their repeatedly proven effectiveness, safety for the health of the animal and exceptional ease of use.

The manufacturer’s thoughtful approach to the release form and packaging allows the buyer to choose exactly the volume of the drug that is needed for a particular animal.
The advantages of the drug also include its availability (such drops are available in an assortment at almost any specialized point where goods for animals and veterinary products are sold) and more than affordable prices.

As a fly in the ointment, it is worth noting that the drug has a characteristic, rather unpleasant odor, which not all animals are delighted with, and some may even develop individual intolerance.

Directions for use and dosage

Using the drug "Bars" is very easy. To do this, you should disassemble the animal’s hair along the spine and Apply the product from a pipette directly to the skin in several places: on the head between the ears, neck at the base of the skull, between the shoulder blades and at the base of the tail. Since cats are very fond of the washing procedure, you need to make sure that the drug is not licked off and does not get into the animal’s stomach; for this purpose, places are selected that are inaccessible to the cat’s paws and tongue. The pipette is designed for one-time use to treat animals weighing over 3 kg. If your cat weighs less, the contents of the pipette will not have to be used completely: for animals weighing from a kilogram to three, use 20 drops (0.6 ml or a little more than half the pipette), for animals up to 1 kg - 10 drops.

Important! For every kilogram of animal weight there must be at least 0.1 ml of the drug, otherwise the protective effect will not be ensured.

Taking into account the duration of action of the drops, the next treatment is recommended to be carried out after approximately five weeks. In any case, the manufacturer warns against using the product more than once a month, as this may be harmful to the cat itself.

For the treatment of ear mites in cats dripping straight into your ears(both, even if only one is affected). First, they need to be thoroughly cleaned with a soft cotton swab, removing wax, scabs and discharge, after which 4-6 drops of the drug are applied to each ear. After this, you need to fold your pet’s ear along its length and gently massage it at its base. Everything that remains in the pipette should be applied to the withers and between the shoulder blades as described above. Special ear drops “Bars” are also suitable for this purpose.
It is important that in the first minutes the cat does not splash the drug (and she will definitely try to do this by vigorously shaking her head). An affectionate owner will always find a way to keep his pet's head still without causing stress to the animal.

It should be noted that such procedures are carried out only as prescribed by a doctor and under his supervision. In especially severe cases, when the development of ear mites has caused otitis in the animal, instillation is repeated after a week. In addition to Bars drops, such treatment should be carried out in combination with other drugs, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial.

Safety and hygiene measures

Be sure to work with drops in disposable rubber gloves. You need to take special care when protecting yourself if you have wounds or other skin damage on your hands, through which the product can enter the bloodstream.

After working with drops, wash your hands thoroughly with soap, even if they were wearing gloves.

Care must be taken to ensure that the contents of the pipettes do not come into contact with dishes, food, or the skin of people or other animals, except for the immediate object of treatment. If this does happen, the skin should be rinsed with plenty of running water, wiped with a soft cloth and washed thoroughly again.
The first day after treatment until the drug is completely absorbed into the skin, you shouldn't pet a cat. During this period, keep the animal away from children.

It should also be borne in mind that if, in general, nothing bad will happen if the drug comes into contact with a person’s skin (provided, of course, that it is not swallowed as a result of handling food with unwashed hands), then on the mucous membrane it will definitely cause irritation. Therefore, you need to take special care of your eyes while working.

special instructions

If there are other cats or cats in the house, it is advisable to treat them at the same time.
The drug should only be applied to absolutely dry and healthy animal skin, if there are wounds on it, choose another place to drip.

You can’t do it for at least three days after treatment, this will significantly reduce the effectiveness of the product.

For absolute protection, especially if the cat really walks freely on the street, in addition to drops and in parallel with them, it is recommended to use other anti-flea products, in particular, special collars (these products, by the way, are also produced under the Bars brand, but it is better to use other options so as not to duplicate the same active ingredient). You should not put a collar on your cat for the first week after treatment with drops, otherwise too much of the chemical may harm your pet’s health.

Contraindications and dosage

In Bars drops, the dose of the toxic chemical is calculated in such a way that, when used in recommended doses, it does not pose any danger to humans and animals. For this reason, the drug extremely rarely causes side effects, and it is almost impossible to be seriously poisoned by it (the dose of fipronil, which can cause death in humans and even cats, is so large in comparison with that contained in Bars drops that this probability cannot be discussed at all have to).

However, there is a possibility of increased sensitivity and individual intolerance. If you notice signs of an allergy in your cat, the applied substance should be washed off immediately with soapy water. If the reaction is severe, the animal should be taken to a veterinarian, who will prescribe antihistamines and other medications to relieve symptoms.

Direct contraindications for the use of the drug, in addition to allergies, are:

  • up to 8 weeks of age (some veterinarians advise holding off on drops until 10 weeks of age);
  • cats;
  • lactation period;
  • the presence of an acute disease in the animal, especially an infectious one, up to complete recovery, as well as weakened immunity;
  • perforation of the eardrum - in case of instillation of the drug into the ears.

In case of an overdose, a cat may experience mild poisoning, manifested by changes in behavior. The animal may become irritable and aggressive, or, on the contrary, lethargic and sleepy. Usually such manifestations go away on their own after a few days, but in some cases convulsions may develop. For this reason, it is better to avoid overdose, and if this happens, try to wash off the drug, as indicated above.

Storage period and conditions

The manufacturer guarantees the effectiveness of the drug for two years from the release date indicated on the packaging, subject to storage conditions.

Drops do not need to be stored in the refrigerator, but negative temperatures are contraindicated. The product also loses its properties when the air temperature rises above 30 °C.

Important! To ensure effectiveness throughout the entire period, the drops must be closed (after opening the pipette, its contents must be used immediately, and any excess, if any, must be destroyed). The room where the drug is stored should be dark and dry.

Of course, anti-flea products cannot be stored together with food (including for animals), or in places where children or pets can reach it. After the expiration date, the drops cannot be used. Disposal does not require special measures; simply place the expired drug in a container for household waste.
"Bars" are very effective drops against fleas and ticks if used in strict accordance with the instructions. They are inexpensive, easy to use and safe for the cat's health. It is very important to keep in mind that in order to prevent the development of addiction in insects, the drug must be alternated with other drugs (with another active substance).

Bars anti-flea drops for cats. Instructions for use

Bars drops against fleas are applied to dry and intact skin of the animal in the doses indicated in the instructions. Apply the product dropwise in two areas of the skin - at the base of the skull and between the shoulder blades, carefully spreading the fur.

The number of drops applied depends on the weight of the animal:

  • up to 1 kg 1.0 and 0.3 (10 drops);
  • from 1 to 3 kg 1.0 and 0.6 (20 drops);
  • from 3 kg and more (use 1 whole pipette)

If there are several cats living in the house at once, they should be treated at the same time to avoid over-infection. Make sure that the animal does not lick the drug.

To combat ticks, Bars drops are applied strictly to the insect, which should fall off in 20-30 minutes. If this does not happen, remove the tick yourself using tweezers.

If Bars drops are used to treat ear scabies (otodectosis) caused by small mites crawling into the ears of cats, then the ear canals must first be cleaned of dirt and scabs. After that, the drops are carefully instilled directly into the ears, 4-6 pieces at a time, and evenly distributed over the auricle, massaging it. The remaining product is applied to the skin between the shoulder blades. It is necessary to inject the drug into both ears, even if only one is affected. Do not use drops under any circumstances if an animal’s eardrum is perforated!

Good to know:

Wormwood is considered the most effective folk remedy for getting rid of fleas. It was used not only against fleas, but also against flies, ants, moths, horseflies, and cockroaches. It was believed that if wormwood brooms were hung in a pen with livestock, the animals would be less bothered by insects. Does wormwood really help against fleas?

Bars drops for large dogs require a larger volume of the drug, so several have a higher price

What are they made of?

  • The key active ingredient of the drug is a synthetically produced insecticidal component - permethrin.
  • Additional components are isopropyl alcohol, polyvinylpyrrolidone and polyethylene glycol.

Important! In the veterinary pharmacy you can find drops of Bars Forte. In terms of their functional purpose, they are similar to the classic drug Bars - a broad-spectrum insecticide. Differences exist in the selection of components. Drops with the prefix forte are made on the basis of fipronil, and, in addition to other auxiliary ingredients, the composition includes an insect growth regulator.

How they work

Bars drops for cats will protect the animal for the entire summer season

Important! Bars drops “work” in such a way that, when included in tissue metabolic processes, they do not enter the blood. This means that they do not pose any threat to the animal’s health, but they do get rid of bloodsuckers.

Hello, dear friends! Those who have pets will understand me. I am very kind to all living things, and especially animals. I can’t pass by an abandoned puppy or kitten. I will always feed him and look for shelter for him.

But when animals that live with their owner suffer, this is a real blow. So a neighbor got herself a dog, not only is he very thin and always sick, but he also discovered fleas. She was repeatedly told about this and given days to buy medications. Inna Vasilievna either didn’t buy them at all, or she took the cheapest ones.

I could no longer tolerate this disgrace and, on the advice of veterinarians, purchased leopard drops for fleas and ticks. After a few days, the dog was simply unrecognizable; he became playful and cheerful. In this article you will learn: Leopard drops for dogs - instructions for use, what dosage is needed and what is included in the drug.

Description of the drug and effectiveness

Leopard drops for dogs: instructions for use

Compound

The composition of the drug allows it to be classified as a substance of the third degree of danger, that is, considered a low-toxic product that, when used correctly, does not pose a threat to the life and health of animals or people.

The main components responsible for high efficiency and safety are:

  1. Permethrin is the main active ingredient present in the old release drops.

    In addition to this drug, it is also used as an additive in many household chemicals; its harmful effects on various insects have been known for a very long time.

    Despite its toxicity, permethrin has a unique property - it is a deadly threat to fleas and ticks, but is safe for warm-blooded animals, which are completely immune to it when used correctly.

  2. Fipronil, a synthetic type of insecticide, has replaced permethrin in all new drops.

    It is less toxic, but at the same time it also effectively destroys any type of insects; this component has long been used by specialists in agriculture and veterinary medicine due to its high-quality insectoacaricidal effect.

    Cats are more sensitive to this substance than dogs, but despite this, it is virtually harmless to all types of animals.

    Side effects or allergic reactions occur only in rare and exceptional cases; fipronil cannot cause severe poisoning.

  3. A number of auxiliary components that repel insects. These include various types of natural essential oils.

Efficiency and effect of the drug

The principle of action of Bars drops is the following processes that begin to occur after treating the animal with this drug:

There are two varieties of these drops - Bars and Bars Forte.

The second type is much more expensive, but owners of cats and dogs did not notice any fundamental differences in the effectiveness of the products and their effect on their pets. However, they noted that the use of both drugs leads to a positive result, which consists of complete elimination of fleas and ticks without side effects.

Instructions for use

Despite the relative safety of the active ingredients that make up the drops, they must be used strictly in accordance with the instructions, moreover, the drug is available in such a form that this will not be difficult at all.

When using the product, you must adhere to the following algorithm of actions:

  1. Choose the type of drops that are suitable for a particular animal, depending on its type, condition and age.
  2. The drops are already poured into a special dropper-pipette; all that remains is to apply them to the animal’s fur. It is best to treat the withers area, since cats and dogs have difficult access to this area, and therefore will not have the opportunity to lick or wipe the product off their body.
  3. After applying the liquid to the fur, it will need to be rubbed in thoroughly.
  4. Treatment with drops is allowed no more than once a month to prevent an overdose of toxic substances.
  5. Isolate your pet from other animals so that they also do not have the opportunity to lick drops from its fur.

In this case, the choice of dosage depends on the type of animal, as well as on its weight; detailed instructions for this process are given below:

  • Cats that weigh less than 1 kg need to apply only 10 drops from the built-in pipette.
  • For cats that weigh 1–2 kg, the single dosage is doubled and is about 15–20 drops.
  • For cats that weigh 3 kg or more, the entire volume of the substance in the pipette should be rubbed in at one time.
  • Small breeds of dogs weighing 2–3 kg need to apply no more than 20 drops of the substance.
  • Dogs that weigh between 3 and 10 kg are required to rub in the entire volume of the substance from a pipette.
  • For larger dog breeds that weigh 10–20 kg, the dosage is increased to two full droppers.
  • For the largest dogs weighing 20 kg and above, it is allowed to rub in all 3-4 pipettes of the drug, which are included in one box, at a time.

Contraindications and side effects

Bars drops are effective and at the same time quite safe for pets against fleas and ticks, but they still have a number of contraindications for which their use is strictly prohibited:

If any side effects are noticed, the pet must be subjected to water procedures using shampoo; consultation with a specialist is advisable.

Typically the negative effects are as follows:

  • Watery eyes or increased and uncontrollable production of saliva.
  • Convulsive reaction, muscle tremors.
  • Vomiting, digestive disorders.
  • Lack of appetite.

If side effects occur, the drug must be washed off with water and shampoo; it is recommended to give the animal an antiallergic agent, for example, Tavegil or Suprastin. It is advisable to show your pet to a veterinarian; further use of drops is not allowed.

Personal prevention measures and the price of the drug

It must be remembered that careless handling of drops can harm not only animals, but also people. Therefore, it is necessary to adhere to and not forget about the following preventive measures:

  1. It is recommended to handle animal fur using protective disposable gloves.
  2. Simultaneous eating, drinking any drinks or smoking is not allowed, as these processes can lead to the entry of a toxic substance into the digestive system and subsequent poisoning.
  3. After completing the treatment of the animal, you must wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water.
  4. It is forbidden to pet animals for 24 hours after treatment.
  5. It is better to limit the pet’s contact and communication with children for several days after the treatment.
  6. If the drug gets on the skin, the area must be washed with soap.
  7. If drops get on the mucous membranes, then the most thorough rinsing and disinfection is required.

  8. The droppers remaining after applying the product are prohibited from further use for any purposes; they must be disposed of.
  9. It is forbidden to use drops, even if they are slightly expired, as they can be harmful to the animal.
  10. Storage must be carried out in a secluded and dark place.

The cost of Bars drops may vary depending on the place of purchase and the chosen method of purchase, but on average they are in the following price range:

  • Drops for cats cost about 120 rubles per package, which includes three pipettes filled with 0.1 ml of the drug. The drug Bars Forte costs 200–220 rubles, but no fundamental differences from the standard Bars were found.
  • Drops for overweight dogs cost about 140 rubles; the package contains 2 or 4 capsules, depending on the volume, which must be used during one treatment.
  • Drops for dogs with lighter weight cost from 70 to 110 rubles, depending on the volume and number of ampoules in the package.
  • Drops intended for kittens over ten weeks of age cost about 200 rubles. The price is indicated for a package, which includes three pipettes with the drug. The product for puppies costs the same, but the package contains four pipettes.

The dosage, method, and frequency of use of Bars Forte depend on the type of drug, weight, age, and breed of dog.

To avoid mistakes, overdose and achieve the greatest effectiveness of the product, you should first read the instructions for use. Insectoacaricidal drops Bars Forte belong to the group of drugs for external use spot-on. They are applied to the withers of the animal. Drops are applied to dry skin, carefully freeing it from hair.

Before applying the drops, the dog is not bathed with shampoo for at least two days. Avoid water procedures in the next two days after applying the drug. Drops are applied following a simple algorithm:

  1. The pet is examined. The treated skin should be free of scratches, abrasions, ulcers, eczema, scratching and other damage.
  2. The nose of the pipette with the drug is cut off.
  3. Having parted the fur, apply drops to the base of the skull and withers.
  4. For dogs of large breeds, additionally dig points between the ears, shoulder blades, along the line of the spine to the lower back, at the base of the tail. The points should be located in places inaccessible to licking.

The dosage depends on the weight of the animal:

  • for puppies that have reached 2 months of age, miniature dogs (whose weight has not reached 1 kg), 4 drops (0.5 ml) on the withers are enough;
  • for pets weighing from 1 to 5 kg, use 1 pipette with a volume of 0.1 ml;
  • dogs that have gained weight of 5-10 kg require 1 pipette containing 1.8 ml of product;
  • for 10-20 kg of live weight you will need 2 pipettes of 1.8 ml;
  • for dogs of medium breeds weighing 20-30 kg - 3 pipettes of 1.8 ml;
  • for animals weighing more than 30 kg, for every subsequent 10 kg, add one 1.8 ml pipette.

Important. If an attached tick is detected, one drop of the drug is applied directly to the body of the tick and the dog’s skin at the site of attachment.

  1. Using a cotton swab dipped in the preparation, carefully clean the auricles and ear canals from dirt, earwax, scabs, and discharge (exudate).
  2. For puppies and dogs of miniature breeds, 3-4 drops of the product are instilled into each ear. Animals with average weight - 4 drops.
  3. Large dogs - 4-5 drops. Be sure to treat two ears, even if only one is affected.
  4. The auricle is folded in half, the base of the ear is lightly massaged. The pet's head is held for 2-3 minutes until the product is completely distributed.
  5. The drug remaining in the pipette is applied to the skin at a point located between the shoulder blades.
  6. The procedure is carried out twice a day for 5-7 days. In case of a protracted, severe form of the disease, the course is repeated after a 7-day break.

The spray is prescribed for preventive and therapeutic purposes. Processing is carried out as follows:

  • The procedure should be carried out outdoors or indoors with open windows. There should be no sources of open fire nearby.
  • To prevent licking of the product, the dog is wearing a neck collar, a muzzle, or a retaining loop is placed over the mouth.
  • The bottle is shaken vigorously, placed vertically at a distance of 20-25 cm from the treated area and, pressing the valve, the product is sprayed in the direction against the hair. Long hair is lifted with a gloved hand.
  • Treatment begins with the ears and chest, covering the dog’s eyes with the palm of the hand.
  • Then a small amount of spray applied to the fingertips is rubbed into the area around the eyes and nose.

  • After this, the spray is sequentially applied to the neck, back, paws, and tail.
  • The dosage is calculated using the formula: 0.5 ml per 1 kg of pet’s weight (one press on the sprayer). For dogs with thick, long hair, the dose is increased to 1.0 ml per kg (two pumps).
  • 20-30 minutes after the skin and fur have dried, remove the muzzle and collar. The wool is combed.
  • When prescribing a treatment procedure for sarcoptic mange, the animal’s skin is first freed from crusts and scabs.
  • The drug is applied to the area affected by mites and a centimeter-long area of healthy skin around it.

    The dose is 1 ml spray per 10 cm² of affected skin. The procedures are repeated 2-4 times, taking breaks between treatments of 7-10 days. In case of extensive infection, first treat one half of the animal, take a break for a day, then treat the other half.

  • Treatment is stopped after complete recovery is confirmed.
  • When prescribing insectoacaricidal agents Bars Forte for therapeutic purposes, not only the animal, but also the bedding and accessories (collar, harness, blanket, brushes, combs) are treated with the spray. Consumption of the drug is 2 ml (4 clicks on the cap) per 1 m² of surface. Accessories and care tools can be used 24 hours after treatment.
