The drug "Sanorin" is an anticongestive drug. It is an alpha adrenergic agonist that has a direct stimulating effect on alpha adrenergic receptors of the sympathetic nerve system. The intranasal drug "Sanorin" is especially often used for children. Parents' reviews of him are mostly positive.

Pharmacological properties

After instillation into the nose, the medicine quickly produces a pronounced and long-lasting vasoconstrictor effect on the vessels of the mucous membranes of the nasopharynx, nose, and paranasal sinuses. The drug relieves hyperemia and swelling, due to which the patency of the nasal passages improves and breathing becomes easier. At the same time, patency is also restored. As a rule, the therapeutic effect develops within five minutes after intranasal administration and lasts for four to six hours.

Indications for use

The instructions for the medicine “Sanorin” for children indicate use for acute rhinitis of any etiology, sinusitis, otitis media (used as an additional drug to reduce swelling of the nasopharyngeal mucosa), laryngitis, eustachitis. Medicine is also prescribed during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, when there is a need to relieve swelling of the sinuses and mucous membranes of the nose, and, if necessary, stop nosebleeds.

Release form. Compound. Price

The drug "Sanorin" for children is available in three versions. These are drops, spray and emulsion. The active ingredient of each dosage form is naphazoline nitrate. Spray and drops are a clear, colorless solution, and the emulsion is a white liquid. The medicine in any version is dispensed in ten milliliter bottles. Naphazoline nitrate in ten milliliters of drops contains 0.005 or 0.01 grams, spray - 0.01 grams, emulsion - also 0.01 grams. The secondary ingredients in the spray and drops are boric acid, water, ethylenediamine, methyl parahydroxybenzoate. The emulsion contains, in addition to the above, essential liquid paraffin and cholesterol as auxiliary components.

You can buy Sanorin for children at any pharmacy. The price of drops of concentration 0.05 percent averages 83-97 rubles, 0.1 percent - 76-85 rubles. The cost of the spray varies between 117-134 rubles, and for a bottle of emulsion you will have to pay about 90-119 rubles.

Is Sanorin safe for children?

Doctors often hear this question from concerned parents. The main thing is to avoid overdose. And for this you should use a solution of the required concentration. Thus, the drug “Sanorin” (for children) is specially produced in a concentration of 0.05%. It can be used by children from the age of two. A medicine containing 0.01 grams (0.1%) of the active ingredient can also be used for children, but only from the age of fifteen. It is not suitable for younger children. It is also recommended to use an ordinary glass pipette for instilling the drug in small children, rather than a factory-made dropper package - this way you will definitely avoid an overdose and will not harm the baby.

Dosage

In the form of drops, the drug “Sanorin” (for children), the instructions advise using one or two drops twice or thrice a day in each nasal passage. Children over fifteen years of age can use drops at a concentration of 0.1 percent, spray or emulsion and use an adult dosage: one to three drops or one to three doses in each nasal passage two to three times a day. The interval between instillations should be at least four hours. The instructions for using the medicine “Sanorin” for children recommend short-term use, no more than three days. If breathing through the nose becomes easier faster, you can stop using the drug earlier. It is allowed to start using the product again only after several days.

If you use the drug for more than a week, chronic obstruction of the nasal passages and atrophy of the nasal mucosa may develop. In rare situations, rebound hyperemia occurs. The medicine can also produce a resorptive effect. Due to the general effect on the body and irritation of the sympathetic nerve system, in extremely rare cases allergic reactions can develop.

Contraindications for use

It is prohibited to use Sanorin spray and drops for children if the patient is intolerant to the components of the product, suffers from atrophic or chronic rhinitis, severe eye diseases, or tachycardia.

Overdose

If you use the medication systemically, symptoms such as increased sweating, tremor, nervousness, increased blood pressure, tachycardia, and headache may develop. There is also a possibility of cyanosis, nausea, mental and respiratory disorders, and the temperature may rise. When the central nervous system is depressed, drowsiness, bradycardia, decreased temperature, weakness, collapse, and in extremely rare cases, coma are observed. It is worth remembering that children are much more sensitive to this type of drug than adults, so their risk of overdose increases significantly.

Drug interactions

When used simultaneously with monoamine oxidase inhibitors, as well as for fourteen days after their discontinuation, blood pressure may increase, since in this case the deposited catecholamines are released under the influence of naphazoline. Therefore, such combined use is prohibited. The drug can also slow down the absorption and prolong the effect of local anesthetics.

Nasal drops Sanorin is a medicine used to treat a wide range of inflammatory diseases of the respiratory and hearing organs. The main use of Sanorin is to ease breathing and relieve swelling. The drug is known for its rapid vasoconstrictor effect and the presence of various dosage forms.

Effect of the drug

The main active ingredient of the drug is Naphazoline. It is a decongestant and has a long-lasting vasoconstrictor and antiallergic effect when applied to the mucous membrane of the nasal cavities. Naphazoline is quickly absorbed into the body, which allows the patient’s condition to improve in a short time.

Vasoconstriction promotes the free removal of mucus during sinusitis and reduces the possibility of rapid proliferation of bacteria in the nasopharynx. For rhinitis and nasal congestion Sanorin cold drops restore nasal breathing and have an anti-inflammatory effect.

Forms of release of the drug

Sanorin is available in various dosage forms:

  • nasal drops 10 ml. Sanorin nasal drops are produced in glass bottles with a dropper dispenser, thanks to which the number of drops is easily controlled;
  • nasal spray 10 ml. Sanorin nasal spray is intended for irrigation of the mucous membrane. As a result of spraying, the drug is distributed in a thin layer throughout the nasal cavity and penetrates into the sinuses;
  • emulsion Sanorin. Contains natural eucalyptus oil. Has a longer lasting effect than the previously listed forms;
  • Sanorin Analergin. It is used both in the treatment of acute runny nose and conjunctivitis. The drug is instilled into the eyes to reduce swelling and redness of the eyelids.

Thanks to a good selection of dosage forms, Sanorin is widely used in the treatment of ENT diseases. When treating adults, use Sanorin nasal drops 0.1% solution, spray or emulsion with eucalyptus. A 0.05% solution is suitable for children. The use of drops and spray is possible in adults and children with the choice of the appropriate concentration of the active substance.

Sanorin with eucalyptus is not available for children, as this additive can irritate the child’s sensitive mucous membrane and cause discomfort in the nasopharynx, such as burning and bronchospasm. Also, Sanorin with eucalyptus should be used with caution by people susceptible to allergic reactions.

Use of the drug

Sanorin has the following range of indications: acute and allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, rhinosinusitis, sinusitis, sinusitis, eustachitis, laryngitis.

The drug is also used during rhinoscopy and to stop nosebleeds. In some cases, its use for the treatment of inflammation of the mucous membrane of the eyes is justified.

The daily dose of the drug for adults is from one to three drops in each nasal passage two or three times a day every 4 hours. For children, the following dosage is used: from the age of two to 6 years - one drop two, three times a day, from the age of six to 15 years - two drops two, three times a day.

Sanorin spray is not used to treat children under 15 years of age. For adults, the dosage is one or three irrigations of the nasal passages two to three times a day, maintaining an interval of at least four hours between uses.

We must not forget that long-term use of the drug in both adults and children can lead to dependence on vasoconstrictor drops. Therefore, the period of use in adults is limited to seven days; in children it should last no more than five days.

Use for sinusitis

A complication of acute rhinitis can be sinusitis - bacterial inflammation of the paranasal sinuses. Can Sanorin cure sinusitis, or prevent its development? One of the causes of sinusitis is swelling of the nasal mucosa, which blocks the passage between the nasal cavity and the adjacent sinuses. As a result of its closure, purulent discharge accumulates in the sinuses.

Therefore, the basis for the treatment of sinusitis consists of procedures aimed at reducing the severity of swelling of the mucous membrane to ensure the free passage of accumulated mucus. That is why, in drug treatment, the first step is to use drugs that have a vasoconstrictor and anti-inflammatory effect, which includes Sanorin.

You need to use Sanorin for sinusitis by adhering to certain rules:

  • you need to lie on your side;
  • then drip the medicine first into one nostril, remaining in this position for about five minutes;
  • then repeat the instillation, turning over to the other side.

After using this drug and completely freeing the nasal passages, instillation of other medications is carried out, as well as rinsing. Sanorin for sinusitis turns out to be a priority and necessary medicine . With timely and competent use, the drug will help avoid surgical intervention.

Contraindications and side effects

Taking the drug Sanorin is contraindicated for people with chronic rhinitis, diseases of the cardiovascular system (arterial hypertension, angina, tachycardia), glaucoma, atherosclerosis, diabetes, with the risk of allergic reactions to the components included in the composition.

Relative contraindications include pregnancy and breastfeeding. The decision to use the drug in each case is made by the attending physician on an individual basis. In the presence of vascular pathologies and the risk of high blood pressure, the drug is not prescribed during pregnancy. The use of Sanorin in children under two years of age is prohibited.

Side effects of Sanorin are quite rare. These include the following reactions: weakness, headache, agitation, tachycardia, increased blood pressure.

The drug is sold in pharmacies without a doctor's prescription and, if instructions and precautions are followed, is a good remedy for the fight against the common cold. Timely use of Sanorin is the prevention of complications. Sanorin eliminates the cause of sinusitis, relieves swelling of the mucous membrane and helps prevent purulent inflammation of the maxillary sinuses.

Sanorin is a representative of the group of alpha adrenergic agonists. It contains an active substance called naphazoline, which has the main therapeutic effect. The drug affects the blood vessels, causing them to narrow, which leads to a decrease in swelling of the nasal mucosa, as well as a decrease in the formation of mucous discharge from the nose.

In addition to local effects on blood vessels, naphazoline is absorbed and enters the general bloodstream. When used correctly, its content in the blood is too low to affect other organs and systems. In cases of frequent use during the day, the concentration of naphazoline in the blood becomes quite high, which affects the normal functioning of the cardiovascular system ( of cardio-vascular system) and kidneys. This fact must be taken into account by people suffering from cardiovascular diseases. By affecting the heart, it can cause an increase in the frequency of its contractions, and also lead to an increase in blood pressure ( blood pressure).

Types of Sanorin

Sanorin is available in three dosage forms, which depend on the manufacturer and the specific diseases for which it is used. The most common form of release is nasal drops. The second dosage form of this drug is a spray. The third option is eye drops, which are used in the treatment of certain eye diseases.

Today there are four trade names for this drug. They differ in that they contain various active and auxiliary substances. Thanks to these substances, sanorin from different manufacturing companies, to one degree or another, shows better effectiveness in certain diseases.

Diseases for which Sanorin is used are:

  • Acute nasopharyngitis– inflammation of the mucous membranes of the nasopharynx of an infectious or allergic nature. The cause of this disease is viruses or bacterial agents that affect the upper respiratory tract. The clinical picture is characterized by redness and swelling of the mucous membrane of the nasopharynx, as well as the formation of fluid and mucus on its surface. This manifests itself in the form of a runny nose. In children, there is an increase in body temperature to 37.5 - 38 degrees; in adults, a temperature reaction to this disease rarely occurs, which is associated with greater resistance of the body and an adequate immune response.
  • Acute sinusitis– inflammation of the mucous membranes of the paranasal sinuses. The most common is sinusitis, which affects one or both maxillary sinuses, located to the right and left of the nose in the upper jaw. Frontitis is less common ( inflammation of the frontal sinus), ethmoiditis ( inflammation of the ethmoid sinus) and sphenoiditis ( inflammation of the mucous membrane of the sphenoid sinus). Polypous growths in the paranasal sinuses serve as a good substrate for the proliferation of bacterial and viral flora, which is a predisposing factor to the occurrence of sinusitis. The inflammatory response leads to increased production of exudate and mucus inside the sinuses. Their outflow occurs through communications with the nasal cavity, which clinically manifests itself in the form of serous or purulent nasal discharge. If the outflow of contents from the sinuses is impaired, pain appears in their locations. With sinusitis, the pain is aching, sometimes pulsating, localized on the sides of the nose. There is a disturbance or complete loss of smell. This disease is protracted and can last from several weeks to several months or even years if left untreated.
  • Eustachite– inflammatory disease of the auditory tube of an infectious nature. Often eustachitis is an intermediate stage, followed by the development of otitis media. The main symptoms are ear fullness, noise in the affected ear, hearing loss and autophony ( feeling your voice in the affected ear). An increase in body temperature, a feeling of pain in the ear and the appearance of general symptoms of intoxication ( weakness, drowsiness, apathy) indicate the development of purulent otitis media.
  • Otitis media– an inflammatory disease of the middle ear that occurs as a result of infection. Children most often suffer due to anatomical features of the structure and reduced immunity. Nasal cavity through the Eustachian tube ( auditory tube) communicates with the middle ear. In children, this tube is shorter and wider than in an adult, which allows for easier penetration of infection and the development of otitis media. As a result of inflammation and the proliferation of microorganisms, the pressure in the middle ear increases, which leads to a bulging of the eardrum and a feeling of pain and pressure in the affected ear. The purulent process begins, the immune system reacts to toxins, neutralizing them. This struggle leads to an increase in human body temperature to 38 - 39 degrees. When the pressure becomes too great, the eardrum cannot withstand the pressure and ruptures. As a result of the breakthrough, part of the pus is released out through the external auditory canal, which leads to an improvement in the patient's condition. After recovery, the eardrum heals and hearing returns to normal.
  • Laryngitis– inflammation of the mucous membrane of the larynx, which is infectious or allergic in nature. The disease begins with a deterioration in general condition and an increase in temperature to 37.5 - 38 degrees. When inflammation is localized in the upper part of the larynx, pain when swallowing is observed. Swelling of the mucous membrane in the glottis area leads to hoarseness and a sore throat. In cases of severe swelling of the glottis, breathing problems occur. In the case of allergic laryngitis, the swelling can be very pronounced, which can lead to serious breathing problems, even suffocation. The cough with this disease is initially dry, then with sputum production. When examining the mucous membrane of the larynx, it is sharply hyperemic ( strong filling of blood vessels with blood, which gives the surface a red color) and edematous. The swelling is most pronounced in the area of the folds of the mucous membrane of the laryngeal vestibule. Often the inflammatory process affects not only the larynx, but also the trachea. The duration of the disease with adequate treatment is 7–8 days.
  • Nose bleed– due to its vasoconstrictor effect, sanorin is used to reduce and stop nosebleeds. By acting on the capillaries and arterioles of the nasal mucosa, this drug causes their spasm. The volume of blood flow decreases, which facilitates the formation of a blood clot in the damaged vessel and leads to stopping bleeding. This drug is a very effective means of stopping nosebleeds at home, as it does not require special skills to use it.
  • Allergic rhinitis– inflammation of the nasal mucosa caused by an allergic reaction. Manifested by the appearance of serous discharge from the nose, itching and frequent sneezing. Allergic rhinitis is divided into two types. The first is called hay fever and is characterized by a seasonal occurrence during the flowering period of certain plants. Plants or a group of plants that cause an allergic reaction with their pollen are individual for each person. The second type of allergic rhinitis is the year-round type. It is caused by household allergens, such as house dust, with which a person comes into contact all year round.
  • Allergic conjunctivitis– inflammation of the conjunctiva of an allergic nature. It is characterized by itching, redness and swelling of the eyelids, increased lacrimation and photophobia. Symptoms may be so severe that they interfere with daily activities. Allergic conjunctivitis can also be seasonal or year-round.
  • Diagnostic reduction of mucosal edema– this effect of the drug is used in diagnosis by an ENT doctor. This allows swelling to be reduced within 10 to 15 minutes, which gives the doctor a greater overview of the condition of the nasal passages and facilitates diagnostic manipulations in order to correctly diagnose and prescribe adequate therapy.

Contraindications to the use of Sanorin

In addition to the positive therapeutic effect on the body, sanorin, like any other drug, has a negative effect. Due to this effect, sanorin is contraindicated in some diseases. This is because it can significantly worsen existing health problems. It is also worth taking into account the individual characteristics of a person and the fact that the directly active substance or excipients included in the composition of sanorin can cause an allergic reaction, both local and general.

Contraindications to the use of Sanorin include:

  • hypersensitivity to the components of the drug;
  • arterial hypertension ;
  • severe atherosclerosis;
  • tachycardia;
  • chronic rhinitis;
  • atrophic rhinitis;
  • angle-closure glaucoma;
  • severe eye diseases;
  • diabetes.
With very frequent or prolonged use, the concentration in the blood reaches sufficient levels to affect other organs. So, at the proper concentration, the alpha-adrenomimetic effect appears on large and medium-sized arteries and the heart. Spasm of the arteries leads to increased blood pressure and worsening of the condition of patients suffering from arterial hypertension and atherosclerosis. The heart rate increases under the influence of sanorin, which is the reason why it is contraindicated in diseases with increased heart rate. Due to its alpha-adrenomimetic effect, this drug acts on the thyroid gland, increasing the secretion of its hormones. The use of sanorin in children under two years of age can lead to severe depression of consciousness, up to the development of a coma with a decrease in body temperature.

Method of application and dosage of sanorin in children and adults

Sanorin is used intranasally depending on the form of release - in the form of a spray or drops. The dosage form in the form of drops must be instilled into each nasal passage using a special dispenser nozzle. The head should be slightly tilted back and turned to the side. When instilling the drug into the right nasal passage, the head must be turned to the left, and when instilling the drug into the left nasal passage, it must be turned to the right. To use Sanorin in the form of a spray, you must remove the protective cap from the dispenser and press it several times until a cloud of aerosol appears. Then, holding the bottle in a vertical position, insert the tip of the dispenser into the nasal passage and press sharply. The same procedure must be carried out with the second nasal passage. This provides a sufficiently strong aerosol jet to deliver the medicinal solution onto the entire surface of the nasal mucosa.

3 – 4 times a day, place a small amount of gel as deep as possible into each nostril.

The maximum duration of treatment for adults and children over 15 years of age is 1 week. Further use loses its effectiveness and significantly increases the risk of side effects.
Sanorin-Xylo for all age groups is used for no more than 3 – 5 days.

Use of Sanorin in children

Children need to use only a special children's form of Sanorin. It differs in that the concentration of the active substance contained in the drug is reduced by 2 times compared to sanorin for adults. An attempt to use the adult version in children in most cases leads to side effects. For children under 15 years of age, the use of Sanorin should not exceed 3 to 4 days, after which it is necessary to take a break, regardless of the results of treatment.

Sanorin with eucalyptus oil should not be used by children under 15 years of age. Due to the presence of many different substances in eucalyptus oil, the risk of allergic reactions in children increases significantly.

Special instructions for the use of Sanorin

For more effective treatment with this drug, there are a number of manipulations necessary to facilitate the delivery of the drug to its destination. Not all patients receive the desired effect from treatment with Sanorin, and it is necessary to take a break before restarting use.

Special instructions for the use of sanorin are as follows:

  • Before using Sanorin, you should thoroughly clean the nasal passages from accumulated mucus and crusts to ensure good contact with the mucous membrane.
  • After using the drug, it is not recommended to clean the nasal cavity for 15–20 minutes to allow longer interaction of the drug microparticles with the mucous membrane.
  • Local use of high doses of sanorin can cause resorptive ( suction) effect in the systemic circulation with the appearance of general side effects.
  • Taking the drug for more than a week in adult patients significantly reduces the vasoconstrictor effect due to excessive stimulation of receptors that stop responding to the active substance. Therefore, after a seven-day course of treatment, you should completely stop using sanorin for several days in order to restore receptor sensitivity. Children are recommended to take such a break after 3 days of treatment.
  • The dose of sanorin missed during the day does not need to be doubled for subsequent use.

Side effects of sanorin

Sanorin is a drug and, accordingly, a foreign substance for the human body. As with any medicine, side effects may occur when using any form of Sanorin. It depends on the individual characteristics of the human body. Also, the risk of adverse reactions increases with increasing dosage of the drug.

Side effects are divided into two groups:

  • local side effects;
  • common side effects.

Local adverse reactions

Local side effects develop in the area of application of the drug. On the one hand, the mechanism of their appearance is associated with a pronounced long-term narrowing of small vessels and impaired microcirculation in the area of the nasal mucosa. On the other hand, local side effects develop due to stimulation of adrenergic receptors of mast cells, resulting in increased release of histamine, one of the main mediators of inflammatory reactions.

Local undesirable effects are:

  • Feeling of dryness in the nasopharynx and oropharynx.
  • Burning, itching or other unpleasant sensations that may be accompanied by sneezing.
  • Redness with elements of irritation of the mucous membrane and skin of the nose and nasolabial triangle.
  • Swelling of the mucous membrane.
  • Feeling of pressure in the nasal cavity.
Local adverse reactions may appear immediately after applying the drug to the nasal mucosa, sometimes persisting in the intervals between applications.

Common adverse reactions

Due to the fact that the drug sanorin has a predominantly local effect, general side effects are observed relatively rarely, but the possibility of their occurrence should not be completely excluded. In high dosages and with prolonged use of the drug, absorption of the active substance into the bloodstream and stimulation of peripheral adrenaline receptors is possible. Common adverse reactions are associated with a stimulating effect on receptors located in the blood vessels, heart, smooth muscles of the digestive tract, and in the iris of the eyes. The severity of systemic side effects may vary from minor to moderate, which may require you to refrain from further use of sanorin.

Side effects from the cardiovascular system are:

  • increased blood pressure;
  • heart rhythm disturbance in the form of tachycardia or antibodies produced by the body interact with the allergen and activate the appearance of an excessive inflammatory reaction. The most common allergic reaction when using Sanorin is a skin rash. In the first days of using the drug, rashes are usually single, then their number may increase. There is no specific location for an allergic rash; it can be localized in any area of the body. The rash elements usually do not exceed 2–3 mm in diameter, vary from bright red to pale pink, and can be located in small groups. Rarely do individual elements merge with each other when combing or rubbing against clothing. The appearance of the rash is accompanied by itching of the skin, the intensity of which depends on the individual reaction of the body.

    All side effects that occur after using Sanorin are reversible and disappear on their own within a few days.

    • With increased blood pressure (It is recommended to prescribe antihypertensive drugs);
    • If an allergic reaction develops (Antihistamines are recommended).

    Interaction of sanorin with other drugs

    Due to the fact that in the human body alpha-adrenergic receptors are found in almost all organs and systems, sanorin can, to one degree or another, exert its influence on almost any human organ. This leads to the fact that when used with other drugs, their effect on the body may be enhanced or their therapeutic effect may be disrupted.

    Groups of drugs for which Sanorin is not suitable for joint use are:

    • monoamine oxidase enzyme inhibitors;
    • tricyclic antidepressants.
    Both groups of medications increase the level of adrenergic mediators - norepinephrine, dopamine and serotonin. These mediators contribute to the narrowing of small and medium-sized vessels and increased pressure in the vascular bed. The additional vasoconstrictor effect of sanorin raises blood pressure to high values, and this effect is observed for a longer time. Also, when used together, the likelihood of heart rhythm disturbances increases - the appearance of tachycardia and the occurrence of extrasystoles ( extraordinary contraction of the heart).

    Drugs for the treatment of depressive disorders are completely eliminated from the body tissues in about 10–14 days. This means that Sanorin can be prescribed after stopping treatment with antidepressants with a time difference of at least two weeks.

    The vasoconstrictor effect of sanorin has shown positive results in the surgical field when used simultaneously with local anesthetics, promoting their slower absorption into the vascular bed. This interaction has a good effect when performing surgical manipulations in the area of the air-bearing sinuses and nasopharyngeal cavity. This makes it possible to reduce the required amount of anesthetic drugs, and, thereby, the likelihood of side effects, as well as extend the time of their effect during surgery.

    Use of Sanorin during pregnancy

    At the moment, no specific studies have been conducted on the effects of sanorin on pregnancy. There is no data refuting or confirming the penetration of the active substances of sanorin through the hematoplacental barrier ( prevents harmful substances from entering the mother's blood into the fetus's blood).

    Based on these data, we can say that sanorin does not have a direct effect on the child. But by affecting the mother’s body, it can disrupt her blood circulation and, as a result, disrupt the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the child. Thus, sanorin can indirectly through the mother have a negative effect on the child.

    The use of sanorin is not strictly contraindicated during pregnancy, but is extremely undesirable due to little knowledge of its effect on the intrauterine development of the child. It should only be used if prescribed by a doctor or in case of severe nosebleeds that cannot be stopped. In case of bleeding, it is necessary to drip a single dose into both nasal passages. If the bleeding does not stop within 10 to 15 minutes, you should call an ambulance or consult a doctor. If you experience repeated nosebleeds, you must consult a doctor.

    Before use, you should consult a specialist.

A runny nose, or acute rhinitis, is characterized by nasal congestion, impaired nasal breathing and the appearance of a large amount of nasal discharge. Sanorin can help children cope with these phenomena. However, it should be noted that it is undesirable to take this drug without a doctor’s prescription due to some unpleasant phenomena.

Can children have Sanorin?

Many mothers are interested in whether it is possible for children to take Sanorin drops into their noses when they have a runny nose? We will try to give a detailed answer.

Sanorin is a drug containing an active component called naphazoline. This substance belongs to the group of alpha-adrenergic agonists, and has an effect on blood vessel receptors similar to the effect of adrenaline.

Experts know the vasoconstrictor effect of adrenaline, but it has an effect on almost the entire body, which alpha-adrenergic agonists lack.

Sanorin for children is available in a special concentration - 0.05% of the active substance in solution. If you are planning to use this drug to treat your child, you should memorize this number. Under no circumstances should 0.1% Sanorin be used for children.

Studies conducted by some medical institutions have shown a direct link between drug overdose and use of the drug in inappropriate concentrations.

The use of factory-made dropper packaging also leads to an overdose. Studies have shown that it is impossible to accurately dose the drug using an authentic dropper. The dose of the drug can be exceeded 10 times!

According to experts, it is better to use Sanorin for children using a regular glass pipette.

Sanorin has a local vasoconstrictor effect, as a result of which hyperemia and swelling of the nasal mucosa are reduced, fluid exudation and, accordingly, the amount of discharge are reduced. The result of these processes is the disappearance of nasal congestion and easier nasal breathing.

The downside of using Sanorin is some burning in the nose, which, however, quickly disappears. The effect of Sanorin develops within 3-5 minutes and lasts from 3 to 6 hours. After this time, the effect of the drug begins to gradually weaken. This allows Sanorin to be used for children (the price of the drug allows it to be used quite widely) 3-4 times a day.

It should be mentioned that the drug should be used for no more than three days due to the so-called tachyphylaxis. The body quickly gets used to the administration of the drug and stops responding to it. Therefore, even if the symptoms of rhinitis do not go away, you should stop taking the drug after 3 days and switch to other medications (your doctor will tell you which ones).

Sanorin for children, instructions

According to the instructions, Sanorin for children can be used, as previously written, only in a special children's concentration - 0.05%. The drug can be instilled starting from the age of two.

If, in addition to rhinitis, the child has other symptoms of an infectious disease - fever above 38 degrees, weakness, headache, drowsiness - in addition to using nasal drops, you should definitely consult a doctor. It is quite possible that the virus that caused the disease is the influenza virus, and it should be treated comprehensively under the guidance of an experienced specialist.

Sanorin, indications and contraindications

Indications and contraindications for Sanorin can be read in the instructions.

The drug is used for acute rhinitis, sinusitis, inflammation of the Eustachian tube, laryngitis, nosebleeds, and as a preparation for rhinoscopy. Sometimes Sanorin is also used in ophthalmology as an element of complex therapy for bacterial conjunctivitis (a 0.05% solution is used).

Contraindications to Sanorin are: chronic rhinitis, arterial hypertension, closed-angle glaucoma, disorders of the cardiovascular system - arterial hypertension, severe atherosclerosis, some heart rhythm disorders. Endocrine disorders such as thyrotoxicosis and diabetes mellitus also interfere with the use of Sanorin.

In addition, the drug is absolutely contraindicated for children under 2 years of age, and from 2 to 15 years of age only 0.05% nasal drops can be used.

Sanorin spray can be given to children only after 15 years.

So, Sanorin is recognized as an effective and relatively safe remedy for the fight against the common cold. However, it should be noted that this drug can in no way serve as a treatment for a viral infection. This medicine will only eliminate the symptoms, and complex effective therapy for diseases that cause acute symptoms can only be prescribed by a qualified specialist.

Instead of simply dripping Sanorin into your children’s noses, consult your doctor for the correct and safe prescriptions.
