Suitcase 203 cm in the sum of three dimensions. Baggage and hand luggage. Tariffs for Pobeda tickets with luggage

When the time comes to replace your old suitcase, which has seen many train stations and airports in its lifetime, with a new one, you want to buy a travel accessory with similar parameters. After all, the old suitcase made it possible to place all the necessary things in its depths, and was ideal for travel. But remembering its exact dimensions is now difficult. And I would really like to replace it with something similar, only new! Perhaps you need another suitcase for carry-on luggage so that you can take it with you on the plane. How to measure a suitcase correctly, correctly summing up all the parameters?

Measuring a suitcase

To obtain the exact parameters of the luggage accessory, you should use a tape measure or sewing meter. The traveler should be aware that the dimensions indicated in the descriptions of the suitcases are external. Therefore, it is also necessary to measure the product by external indicators.

Suitcase measurement procedure:

1. Place the luggage item on the floor or table.
2. We start measuring from the lowest point, including the wheels, and move up to the handle, which is in a folded state. Thus, we obtain the height of the product.
3. We measure the depth and width along all protruding parts of the suitcase.

As a result, we get three indicators. For example: 55 cm height, 40 cm width, 20 cm depth. If we sum up these three measurements, we get a figure of 115. This means that you should buy your next suitcase in this size, since these are the parameters that are optimal for this luggage accessory.

We pay special attention to calculating the volume of the suitcase. Some manufacturers indicate it based on external indicators, and some - internal ones. We obtain the volume by multiplying all measurements together. For example, a suitcase with parameters 55/40/20 will have a volume of 44 liters.

Suitcase sizes:

Small, for hand luggage, it has a height of up to 60 cm. And the sum of all three indicators should not be more than 115 cm. The volume of such a travel accessory reaches 50 liters.
Medium, up to 80 cm high. The suitcase can have a volume of up to 90 liters. These parameters are the most optimal for travel. Luggage accessories with such indicators are very popular among buyers.
Large - height up to 80 cm. If the sum of the indicators of such a suitcase exceeds 158 cm, then there is a risk that it will not be placed in the luggage compartment of the aircraft. But it is ideal for road and rail travel. The volume is up to 120 liters.
A super-sized suitcase can have a height of 80 cm and a volume of up to 180 liters. You’re unlikely to get on a plane with such a “giant”, but on a sea cruise or a trip around the world you won’t find a better travel accessory.

Knowing how to measure a suitcase correctly, you can easily choose a reliable “fellow traveler” of the optimal size. In this case, you will not have to overpay extra money for exceeding the free baggage allowance allowed by airlines. At the same time, all the things you need on the road will be safely packed into a brand new luggage accessory.

Somehow this year November is simply a good month for all sorts of transport tricks. Either Russian Railways suspended the sale of reserved seat tickets, or air carriers introduced new rules.
Actually, I wouldn’t bother with this, since we try not to fly with Russian airlines, but for December we have Moscow-Tivat-Moscow tickets. And we are flying "Victory".

Naturally, I immediately went to the airline’s website and began to look at how the baggage rules had changed. The first thing I saw:
On flights of Pobeda Airlines LLC There is no free baggage allowance, with the exception of carriage on a ticket that provides for the return of the carriage charge upon termination of the air carriage agreement. Tickets that provide for the return of carriage charges upon termination of the air carriage agreement provide for free baggage allowance weighing no more than 10 kilograms and dimensions no more than 203 centimeters in the sum of three dimensions.

To be honest, this threw me into a stupor, because on my non-refundable ticket it is written in blue and white that I have the right to my legal 10 kg of luggage. Naturally, I went to find out what the hell this was and what to do. In the process of finding out, they sent me this, but this information is not directly on the website, although it was definitely there back in October, because I saw a screenshot from the airline’s website. Why they removed it is completely incomprehensible; it only caused another wave of misunderstandings among passengers and another anger.
9.1
If you purchased a ticket before 09/29/2017 (including this date) for a flight operated after 09/30/2017 (including this date), you can carry free of charge no more than 10 kg of Checked Baggage with dimensions up to 203 cm in three dimensions and Hand Baggage provided for in paragraph 9.4 of these Rules.

Calling the Pobeda help desk is very expensive (more than 60 rubles per minute of conversation), so I decided to write. To my surprise, the answer came within half an hour (I didn’t expect it on a Sunday evening)
As a result of the correspondence, it turned out that we can take luggage for free as was originally included in the tariff, since the ticket was purchased according to the old rules. Just in case, I saved the letters and if anything happens, I will present them at the airport.

Now about hand luggage.
Carrying hand luggage on the Pobeda was the most painful area, because there were too many restrictions, but there was no weight limit; at least nowhere was it indicated how much a handbag or a man’s briefcase could weigh. With a reasonable approach, this could be used very well.
Since we have heavy photographic equipment with us, it was decided to pay extra. space for transportation in the cabin (10 kg). And again, it’s unclear how much luggage can be taken into the cabin according to the new rules, because from the personal account it follows that I can take 5 kg, my husband 5 +5.
Again, as a result of correspondence with Pobeda, we found out that you can take 5 kg for free and 10 kg paid, it’s just reflected very crookedly on the website.
At the same time now You can take both a backpack and a bag in hand luggage, the main thing is that everything fits into their microscopic standards for luggage sizes.

In general, all normal airlines did not take into account photo and video equipment, as well as laptops, in the weight of hand luggage, because it is impossible to check this equipment into luggage; according to current rules, all this must fit into 5 kg of hand luggage. For photographers, this is practically a death sentence, i.k. Often a body + lens set can already weigh more than 5 kg, not to mention tripods.

Of course, you can buy more expensive tickets with luggage and pay for additional hand luggage, but then the meaning of Pobeda tickets is completely lost, since its only advantage is cheap tickets. As soon as you start paying extra for everything, the cheapness disappears and it’s easier to buy tickets on some European airline.

Items by rail can be transported in hand luggage (along with you) or in a luggage compartment (separately from you).

Hand luggage

Unlike on an airplane, you do not need to check in hand luggage for a train trip, nor do you need to pay for it. Baggage can be carried as hand luggage if it weighs no more than 36 kg and its size in the sum of 3 dimensions does not exceed 180 cm*. This norm is the same for reserved seat, compartment, seated carriages, trains, etc. In a double suite (SV), you can carry up to 50 kg** of luggage. According to the rules, in order to take additional hand luggage weighing up to 50 kg, you need to purchase another travel ticket.

In practice, little attention is paid to restrictions; the conductor will not measure or weigh your bag before boarding. But if you have several heavy-looking bags, you may be sent to the ticket office to pay for your luggage. It all depends on the specific conductor and the station workers who check the luggage.

In different types of carriages, luggage can be placed in different places:

  • In the compartment and SV - in the lockers of the lower shelves and a niche under the ceiling;
  • In the reserved seat - in the lockers of the lower shelves and on the third shelf;
  • In seated carriages, Sapsan and Lastochka - on luggage racks above the seats, in special luggage spaces inside the carriage.

You should not occupy all the luggage compartments with your belongings; other passengers will travel with you with their hand luggage. Passengers who have purchased a ticket for a lower berth have priority to the lower berth locker, while those traveling in an upper berth have priority to the upper berth.

Unlike on an airplane, you can carry any liquids on a train, including alcohol, based on the norm of 0.5 liters per person.

* Based on the sum of three dimensions (length + width + height). The dimensions are indicated for each bag (or suitcase) separately.

** Standard for the carrier JSC FPC. Weight may vary for other carriers' suites.

Special baggage in hand luggage

Bicycles, kayaks, snowboards, skis, and baby strollers can be carried in hand luggage, but only if they are disassembled and packed. It is most convenient to place the bike on the 3rd shelf in the reserved seat. It is better to lay it across two shelves, then it will definitely not fall while moving.

You can also take seedlings (if they are no more than 180 cm in height) with you into the carriage, just carefully tie off the rhizomes and crown. If the dimensions of the item exceed 180 cm in total, then for a small fee you need to issue a “Luggage in Hand” receipt at the cash desk.

Hunting and sporting weapons can be transported in hand luggage, but under special conditions. It must be in a case or holster, unloaded and separate from the cartridges.

All these things do not have to be placed on luggage racks; they can also be with you in the compartment - the main thing is that they do not interfere with other passengers. Hand luggage cannot be placed in aisles, corridors or vestibules.

Unlike ordinary bags, transportation of sports equipment will need to be paid at the ticket office at the station. This can be done at any time before the train departs.

If you have a lot of luggage, you should not board the train at the last minute to avoid making it difficult for other passengers to board. It is better to arrive early and carefully stow your luggage, leaving room for your neighbors.

For each piece of special baggage carried on the train, a fee is charged at the baggage rate in kilograms:

  • bicycle - 10 kg,
  • kayak (kayak) – 30 kg,
  • weapon - 10 kg.

Children's strollers, wheelchairs, as well as skis and snowboards can be transported on the train free of charge. No documents are required. Skis and snowboards must be covered, as sharp edges can cut the upholstery and injure other passengers.

Additional hand luggage

Additionally, you can carry another 50 kg of hand luggage on the train, but for an additional fee. If a child is traveling with you without a seat (under 5 years old), then the right to carry hand luggage does not apply to him.

You can transport household, video and audio equipment, regardless of whether the passenger has hand luggage, no more than one item per ticket. Equipment can exceed 180 cm in the sum of three dimensions. For each item, regardless of its weight, a baggage fee weighing 30 kg is charged. You will need to check out the item at the box office using a “baggage in hand” receipt.

If your household appliances fit into the 36 kg baggage allowance, then you do not need to check them in separately. The conductor will not force you to pay for your laptop or microwave.

Luggage compartment

If you want to carry more luggage, you need to check it in the luggage compartment. The luggage compartment is located in the headquarters car (ask the conductors where it is).

From one passenger, including children's tickets with provision of a seat (from 5 to 10 years), up to 3 pieces of luggage are accepted. The dimensions of the space based on the sum of three dimensions (width, length and height) should be no more than 180 cm, weight - up to 75 kg. The total permissible weight of luggage per passenger is up to 200 kg.

You need to pay for the transportation of luggage in the luggage compartment at the ticket office at the station. This can be done either when purchasing a ticket at the box office, or later by presenting a printed boarding pass. Or just give the order number - these are the numbers at the beginning of the SMS about purchasing a ticket.

When boarding the train, present the baggage receipt along with your ticket to the conductor. Then check your luggage into the headquarters car, and you will receive your luggage there. You yourself will travel in your carriage as usual.

Each item checked in must be packed. Only baby strollers and wheelchairs do not need to be packed, as they may be needed immediately after unloading. Remember that you are responsible for the safety of your belongings when transported in the luggage compartment.

Oversized luggage

If the sum of three dimensions exceeds 180 cm, then it is considered oversized and is transported in the luggage compartment. The weight of one piece of oversized luggage must not exceed 75 kg. No more than 1 piece of large luggage is allowed per passenger. Luggage must fit through the doors. The dimensions of one piece of large luggage should not exceed 175 cm in height, 50 cm in width, and 45 cm in depth for a single-decker carriage. Large luggage cannot be transported in a double-decker carriage.

If the baggage does not meet these conditions, the train director makes a note on the transportation document: “Refused transportation. Oversized”, signed and dated. Payments for large-sized baggage not accepted for transportation are returned in a claim procedure.

Car carrier

This is a specialized carriage that includes 3-4 passenger cars. It can also transport motorcycles. Such cars are available on a small number of routes: from Moscow to St. Petersburg, Helsinki, from Moscow and St. Petersburg in southern directions. The cost of the service varies depending on the route, on average - from 5 to 8 thousand rubles.

You can’t just bring your car to the train and immediately load the car into the carriage. You must first call Russian Railways OJSC and check the availability of the service on the train you are interested in. Then you need to submit an application by phone, through the Russian Railways website or at a special ticket office.

Transporting animals in luggage

Transportation of animals in the luggage compartment is possible only under special conditions that depend on the specific carrier. For more information, contact the ticket office at the station.

What to do if your luggage is lost

If you have lost (forgotten on the train or left it on the platform) hand luggage or baggage, immediately notify the train or station manager. Show your passport, ticket and baggage receipt.

In this case, these containers must be placed in a transparent plastic bag with a volume of no more than 1 liter, and each passenger is allowed to carry only one such bag as hand luggage. These bags can be brought with you from home, but they must be equipped with a special “zipper” (see attached poster below).

In larger quantities than indicated, you are allowed to carry in hand luggage only:
