Alexander Shevelev, who has been working in the structures of Alexey Mordashov for more than ten years, will be appointed CEO of Severstal. Previously, he was first deputy mayor of Cherepovets, and then vice-governor of the Vologda region

Alexander Shevelev will be appointed general director of Severstal Management, the management company of Severstal, controlled by Alexey Mordashov, on December 12, the press service of the metallurgical company reported. Shevelev now heads the Sveza group, part of Severgroup, which is also controlled by Mordashov, and before that by Severstal-Metiz (a subsidiary of Severstal).

A Severstal representative explained the appointment of a new general director on December 12 by the need to comply with “formal procedures.” To appoint the general director of Severstal Management, the approval of the board of directors of Severstal is not required, a company representative told RBC. She did not disclose the duration of Shevelev’s contract.

Shevelev will replace Vadim Larin, who headed Severstal in May 2015, but resigned a year and a half later, on November 7, 2016. The company explained Larin's departure as his own desire. After Larin left, the duties of the head of Severstal began to be performed by Deputy General Director for Finance and Economics Alexey Kulichenko.

The new general director of Severstal is 42 years old, he graduated from the Vologda Dairy Academy with a degree in mechanical engineer and St. Petersburg State Technical University with a degree in economist-manager. Shevelev began his career as a mechanic at the Cherepovets Steel-Rolling Plant (later renamed the Cherepovets Severstal-Metiz Plant) in 1997, and in 2004 he became the executive director of this plant. In July 2012, Shevelev briefly left for civil service - he was appointed first deputy mayor of Cherepovets, and about a year later - deputy governor of the Vologda region. But he did not stay in this post for long - already on July 29, 2013, he became the general director of Severstal-Metiz, and in April 2016 he was appointed general director of the Sveza group.

“Shevelev is committed to our corporate culture, knows how to personally involve the team in productive work, and is proactive,” noted Mordashov (his quote is given in the Severstal message). All this will contribute to the successful performance of the top manager in a “very important and responsible position” and will ensure Severstal’s “forward movement” forward, its owner is sure. Mordashov himself led the company since 1996, but then decided to step away from operational management, heading its board of directors.

“Well done, we found a replacement for Mr. Larin in two weeks,” exclaims Andrey Lobazov, Aton’s senior analyst for the metals sector. “For Severgroup and Alexey Mordashov, this figure is not new and well known, so I think we should not expect changes in the company’s strategy - such a soft transition, especially considering that Mr. Mordashov remains in the company as chairman of the board of directors,” notes He. Indeed, one should not expect a change in Severstal’s strategy, which the company chose more than ten years ago, agrees Ward Howel partner Pavel Plaksin.

The normal salary for a manager of this level is about 3 million rubles. per month, bonuses can be up to 100% of the salary, says Ilgiz Valinurov, president of the corporation of recruitment agencies Business Connection. A Severstal representative did not comment on the size of the new CEO's remuneration.

Anatoly Frishman, who previously held the position of General Director of Severstal-Metiz, will be appointed as the new CEO of the Sveza group, Severstal said in a statement. And he will, in turn, be replaced as CEO of Severstal-Metiz by Sergei Kovryakov, who previously worked as the production director of the Sveza group, and before that was the executive director of the Severstal-Metiz plant in Cherepovets.

I am confident that all this will contribute to the successful activities of Alexander Shevelev in the very important and responsible position of General Director of Severstal and will ensure its progressive movement forward. On August 30, in the Kostroma region, a ceremonial commissioning of a modernized lamination press took place at the SVEZA Kostroma woodworking plant.

Governor Sergei Sitnikov and General Director of SVEZA Anatoly Frishman took part in the ceremony.

This year, the Russian company SVEZA (the world leader in the birch plywood production market) has already implemented two large investment projects in the Kostroma region.
In March, a unique spindleless peeling line was launched in Kostroma. In April, the SVEZA Manturovo plant launched a new peeling line.

The next investment project in Kostroma will reduce the time of loading plywood into the press and the lamination process itself, which will ultimately help improve the quality and increase the volume of products.
“The Kostroma enterprise is rightfully one of the leaders not only within the SVEZA group, but also in the Russian plywood production market as a whole,” emphasized Anatoly Frishman, General Director of the SVEZA company, at the opening.

Anatoly Frishman, General Director of SVEZA:

The Kostroma enterprise is rightfully one of the leaders not only within the SVEZA group, but also in the Russian plywood production market as a whole. If we talk about the business climate in the Kostroma region, we work here absolutely comfortably, we are in constant contact and interaction with the regional administration, we have full support.

2.8 billion rubles were invested in the development of the enterprise. Last year alone, the amount of investment in the production of two plants in the Kostroma region exceeded 780 million rubles. 211.5 million rubles in taxes were transferred to the consolidated budget of the region.
Governor Sergei Sitnikov noted the competent investment policy of the SVEZA group, which is constantly implementing technical re-equipment and modernization programs.

Sergey Sitnikov, governor of the Kostroma region:

The administration of the Kostroma region actively supports the enterprise in resolving all issues related to modernization. It is one of the largest wood processors in the region. The well-being of the families of those people who work here and the economic development of the Kostroma region largely depend on how the enterprise develops. We hope that new technologies will continue to be introduced here and that the SVEZA Group will continue to develop its production facilities in the region.

“The investment climate in the Kostroma region today is one of the most favorable for doing business,” Nikolai Zhuravlev, a member of the Federation Council, commented to the media information portal44.

Nikolay Zhuravlev, member of the Federation Council:

The investment climate in the Kostroma region today is one of the most favorable for doing business. This is evidenced by the growth of investments in the modernization of production at existing enterprises, and the arrival of new investors in the region. Much credit for this goes to the regional administration and personally to Governor Sergei Sitnikov, who does not leave a single investment project unattended. In the end, everyone benefits from such a smart policy. The budget receives additional taxes, residents of the region receive stable jobs with high wages, and investors themselves receive the best conditions for work with the prospect of further development of their production.
