Mix the minced meat well until smooth; if desired, you can beat it several times.

From the finished minced meat we form nine identical meat balls and place them in a deep baking dish at some distance from each other.

Cut the potatoes into thin circles and fill the free space between the meatballs. In order for the potatoes to turn out on top with a golden crispy crust, they must be located in a vertical position, just above the meat balls, we place them overlapping each other. In a separate cup, mix tomato paste, mayonnaise, garlic, crushed to a pulp, and spices.


Cut the peeled potato tubers into large oblong slices. If the potatoes are small, then simply cut them in half. Add a little salt and spread 2/3 of the prepared mayonnaise mixture. Mix well so that the mixture is distributed throughout the potatoes, and set the cup aside for a while.


Add boiled rice, chopped onion, salt and pepper to the minced meat (you can use any kind). Mix very thoroughly. There is no need to add an egg to the minced meat; the meatballs will keep their shape well.


Roll the meat balls with wet hands. From the specified amount of minced meat, 8-9 meatballs are obtained.


We take a mold suitable for high-temperature processing and lightly grease its bottom with refined oil. Then we put half of the potatoes in the mold, on top of which we distribute the meatballs.


Place the other half of the potato wedges in the spaces between the meat balls. And then thoroughly grease the meatballs with the remaining mayonnaise mixture.


Seal the top of the pan with foil and bake the meatballs and potatoes in the oven at 180 degrees for about an hour. But 20 minutes before the end, the foil should still be removed so that the potato wedges are nicely browned.


Both the potatoes and the meatballs turn out very juicy and tasty; even the lack of gravy does not make them dry. In addition, the dish turns out to be quite filling, so in addition to it, be sure to serve a salad of fresh vegetables.

Meatballs can be made from any minced meat, in my case it is minced beef, quite fatty. The meatballs turned out juicy, tender, and simply melted in your mouth.

For meatballs, it is advisable to use fatty minced meat. Add raw washed rice to it. First, the rice should be soaked in warm water for an hour or boiled until half cooked.

Grind the onion in a convenient way, I scrolled it in the processor until it became a homogeneous paste, add it to the minced meat. Salt and sprinkle with your favorite spices. It can be different peppers, herbs, if desired. Mix the minced meat thoroughly.

Form small meatballs, the size of a walnut. Lightly roll them in breadcrumbs or flour. I do this so that the sauce later becomes thicker, but you can skip the breadcrumbs altogether.

Peel the potatoes and cut them lengthwise into equal slices.

Place the meatballs in a fireproof dish so that you can insert potato slices into the resulting free spaces. Lightly salt and sprinkle with spices.

For the sauce, combine tomato paste, garlic clove, salt, sugar, sour cream. Pour in warm boiled water and dissolve all ingredients until smooth. Add whatever is missing to taste.

Pour the resulting sauce over the contents of the mold.

Cover with foil and place in a hot oven. Cook at 200 degrees for 30 minutes. Test doneness with a fork; the potatoes should be completely soft and the meatballs should be completely cooked. If necessary, keep the meatballs and potatoes in the sauce in the oven for another 10-15 minutes.
