About the laws of behavioral economics

As corporate relations gurus say, in order to retain an employee and interest him, you need to work with motivation, this complex matter, often not measured in monetary terms. There are dozens of studies devoted to this pressing issue, hundreds of recipes, and not all of them show themselves well in practice. Therefore, it is worth taking a closer look at the laws of behavioral economics, which takes into account the unobvious nuances of human psychology and becomes an effective tool in increasing employee engagement. Why does a person do anything at all? How does a person choose from many options what he will do? Why can't we change? What does our labor productivity depend on? Questions familiar? Behavioral economics can reveal them.

In business there are such concepts as involvement, satisfaction, motivation, however, if your goal is to earn a lot of money, then this is not important to you, but labor productivity. To make money, you need to understand the following: motivation does not exist on its own. What you used to call motivation is the interaction of two different worlds. The first is the world of motives, this is the inner world of aspirations and desires, the second is the world of incentives, the external world. Motivation is the interaction of these two worlds. A person can be controlled by both motives, for example, “I want to become a director,” and incentives, for example, there is an opportunity to earn extra money to get more money. However, there is a difference: under the influence of a motive, a person’s labor productivity increases, he works harder, he has a high level of satisfaction, and the duration of the influence of the internal motive is longer than the influence of the incentive.

It is important for a top manager to understand how the world of motives works in order to be able to use it. The overjustification effect

The world of incentives, although it seems simpler, has many side effects. Action under the influence of motives has practically no consequences - this is human development in its purest form. What happens to the world of incentives when there are no motives?

Imagine the situation: an old grandfather lives on the first floor of a high-rise building, children are constantly making noise under the windows of his apartment, he chases them away, but they do not leave. Then the grandfather offers to pay the children 100 UAH a day so that the children continue to make noise under his windows; naturally, the children agree. The children make noise during the week, but in due time the grandfather says that he will pay not 100 UAH, but 50 UAH. The children were outraged, but continued to play for another week. However, the grandfather came out to them again and said that he could not pay at all, but they could continue making noise. Will the children agree? Of course not. They had played for free before, but in this case it was no longer the same, because they were offered money. The children had an internal motive - to play, then an external incentive was applied - to pay, after this incentive the motive disappeared. This is called the overjustification effect. External stimulation can lead to the removal of internal motives.

If you ask people why they go to work, they will answer that they do it for the money. But in fact, they work for what this money gives them. And many people don't realize this. This is the virtual effect of overjustification.

Meaningfulness

This is a very undervalued factor in productivity, and it often gets destroyed in companies where there is a division of labor when people don't see the full picture and don't understand why their part of the job was important. The leader's job is to restore meaning.

The second factor is social pressure. The more complex the problem we solve, the more the observation influences us. Productivity will deteriorate significantly under the influence of people.

Yerkes-Dodson Law

Scientists Robert Yerkes and John Dodson studied the interaction between productivity improvements and external incentives. When the rat was shocked harder, it found its way out of the maze faster. However, this happens up to a certain point, after which an increase in current strength led to complete passivity of the rat. Regarding labor productivity, the same thing happens - with stimulation, productivity increases, but then begins to decline.

It turned out that the more complex the maze, the faster performance peaks. What follows from this?

1. Each person works at a different frequency. Imagine that the manager has established work in the department with a certain frequency, but one employee completed the work very quickly, and the second did not have enough working hours. A conflict arises. How do you find out who is working at what frequency? According to claims. According to the Yerkes-Dodson curve, there are left-wing and right-wing people. The first ones are leisurely, unlike the second ones. Both of them can be effective, but for this they need different working conditions - you shouldn’t combine fast and slow people in one team, they simply won’t agree. And one more thing - try to talk systematically with people of the left type, and talk to people of the right type more about actions than about planning.

2. Social pressure is labor productivity depending on the observability of labor. For a long time, scientists could not understand how social pressure affects labor productivity. Today we have come to the conclusion that social pressure causes an increase in the productivity of simple labor - physical, but reduces the productivity of intellectual labor. People solving complex problems should be in a more isolated space. The more complex the task, the more people should be isolated and the less haste and deadlines there should be.

3. Completeness. Any incompleteness causes huge losses, so write down all your unfinished tasks on a piece of paper and write “I won’t” opposite those that you don’t want/can’t complete. The rest - finish it, you must decide exactly what to do so that they do not hang like a burden. A world of unspoken rules

In society there are many rules that people adhere to, but it is not possible to explain these rules. This is a separate world - a world of unspoken rules. The fact is that all people are in two types of interaction with each other at the same time - social norms and market relations. In the first case, the warmth of the relationship is important to us. The second is equivalence. So how do these types of interactions affect job performance?

People always translate their work productivity in accordance with the idea of ​​fairness of payment for this work. This happens unconsciously; you don’t even know whether you are working worse or better. At the same time, social norms also ensure greater productivity. This is why corporate culture has arisen, where companies try to build a special type of relationship with employees. Not market, but some other one.

It is possible to build an incentive system based only on financial incentives. Or based on social norms, but don’t mix it up. Because the space of market norms will eventually kill the space of social norms. If you want to build good relationships with employees, do not praise them at the same time as introducing a system of fines - you will immediately devalue social norms.

Educate people, thereby you sign a social contract with them. And remember about gifts, which act as intermediaries in our relationships. An interview with him was published in 2003 in another newspaper, so it is impossible to reprint it in AiF. “AiF”: - Everyone at school taught: the efficiency of a technical device cannot exceed 100%. In recent years, news has been heard from different places: a heating installation has been created, the efficiency of which reaches 150%, 200%, 400%. Is there a limit and are these just advertising tricks of inventors trying to gain a place in the market?

Anatoly Akimov:- First, let’s clarify what we learned at school: efficiency cannot reach 100% in a closed system, that is, one where energy is both consumed and consumed. If the system is open, the efficiency can be as high as desired, even millions of percent - it is only important to have an influx of energy from the outside.

The vortex thermal units you are talking about are today produced by more than 20 organizations in Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania, and Moldova. They are different: for some, the amount of heat received is actually two to three times greater than the amount of electricity consumed, others only declare that their efficiency is above 100%, in fact it is good if it reaches 85%. But in all cases, the installations operate on the principle of open systems, which means that the efficiency can be anything. You can declare anything. I personally had the opportunity to check the installations of one well-known inventor in my circle. His three original installations had efficiencies of 107%, 350% and 420%. A foreign company tested a production machine manufactured according to the design of the same specialist; its efficiency was only 85%. Why? Even the developer himself does not know this. Apparently, during the transition from the original to the “circulation”, some design nuances were missed, on which the efficiency and, accordingly, the profitability of the device depends.

“AiF”: - It turns out that it’s all about competent measurements of consumed and expended energy. Which of the creators of vortex heat generators is leading in this direction?

A.A.: - I know of only one of them, the devices of which were checked in the official metrological organization by professional thermal physicists. ... The chief engineer reported that he pays 2.5 times less for electricity consumption than before, when a conventional heating system was used. Along the Oktyabrskaya Railway you can find many industrial buildings that are heated by such serial installations.

“AiF”: - So, all these wonderful heaters are open systems. They all have the same principle - they swirl the water. For tightening, a pump is used that consumes electricity. Where does excess energy come from - from the environment?

A.A.:- Some colleagues, subconsciously trying to remain in the familiar, well-described world, declare: these vortex heat generators do not represent anything new - ordinary heat engines.

They would be right only if the air temperature dropped near the operating vortex heater. Then it’s clear: energy is taken from the surrounding air and transformed into heat from heating water. A great number of such installations have been patented.

But with the devices I know, it’s just the opposite: the air temperature next to them does not fall, but increases! This means that the simplest, obvious explanation does not work.

“AiF”: - Where conventional ideas stall, hypotheses arise. Vortex heat generators have given rise to several very different ones. Academician Gritskevich is convinced that energy is taken from hydrogen and oxygen atoms. Professor Kolpakov from Kharkov announced the discovery of polarization waves. Engineer Kotelnikov from Syzran proves using calculations that energy is taken away from the gravitational field. Others see an energy resource in cavitation - air bubbles formed when water swirls. These scientists criticize you, Anatoly Evgenievich, considering torsion fields an unnecessary invention that obscures an unstudied physical phenomenon.

A.A.:- Well done: if they criticize, it means they think. And when many people think at once, they will definitely get to the truth.

Only after all, I have the right to criticize. Let's take cavitation for example. Let's not even get into the physics of this complex process. Because cavitation is not at all necessary for the operation of vortex heaters - there are many of them where bubbles do not form in the water. And an influx of energy from outside is observed.

It's the same with gravity. When the pipe in which the vortex is formed is located vertically, there is, of course, a temptation to invoke the gravitational field for the explanation, because the water flows from top to bottom. But any number of installations with a horizontally located vortex tube are produced. In this case, gravity certainly has nothing to do with it.

Let me not talk about the energy of atoms - it’s too special a question. Let me just say that I don’t share this point of view either.

“AiF”: - Well, we’ve come to torsion fields, or, in Russian, torsion fields. If many physicists stubbornly deny these fields the right to exist, you apparently cannot escape the evidence.

A.A.:- Of course. Here you see on my desk a gray box the size of a TV. This is a torsion field generator. Of course, you don't have to take my word for it - you never know what might be hidden in the box.

But now I turn on this generator and bring it to the melting furnace. The plasticity of the produced silumin - an alloy of aluminum and silicon - doubles while the strength increases simultaneously. For people who understand, this is a stronger sensation than 300% efficiency. Typically, an increase in the ductility of a metal by 3% is already a success. And twice - this has never happened.

There is no doubt that the result was influenced by the gray box: after all, I am not a magician, the same result was obtained in St. Petersburg at the Central Research Institute of Materials using my method, but without my participation. Moreover, the effect does not depend either on the distance between the generator and the melting furnace, or on shielding. If an electromagnetic field were involved, the screen would remove its influence. The strength of all long-range physical fields decreases in proportion to the square of the distance to the object.

This means that the gray box generates a physical field that has previously unknown properties. By claiming that this is a torsion field, I am not making a discovery. Such fields were described in 1922 by the French mathematician Elie Cartan. True, an incident occurred. From a physics point of view, Cartan did well. But in developing the theory of torsion fields, this outstanding mathematician made mistakes. Our compatriot and contemporary Gennady Ivanovich Shipov had to develop this theory anew.

“AiF”: - But Shipov began to assert something that makes the last hairs of the masters of classical physics come out: energy is taken from the physical vacuum. We are used to thinking: vacuum is emptiness, nothing; How can nothing give something, and something huge?

A.A.:- Well, you are presenting a philistine point of view. Modern physics claims that the physical vacuum is not emptiness, but the fundamental principle of matter. Another thing is that some of our respected orthodox academicians believe in the old fashioned way that a physical vacuum is a system with a minimum of energy. And throughout the civilized world - and, what’s funny, here in Russia too - thousands of works have been published in the most reputable scientific journals, which prove that vacuum energy is colossal and practically inexhaustible.

Well, here's concrete evidence for you. The book “Cosmology of the Early Universe”, published at Moscow State University in 1988 as a textbook. Dear authors: A. Dolgov, Ya. Zeldovich and M. Sazhin. On page 96 we read: “The best state in terms of energy - the vacuum of the system has a non-zero (infinite) energy density.” On the next page: “Usually this (infinite energy) was simply forgotten, declared unobservable and the energy of particles measured from this infinitely high level.”

Just think about the state of science, which is like an ostrich that dips its head in the sand and believes that it does not exist. So it is here: the infinite, due to the impossibility of explaining it, is taken as zero!

John Wheeler, one of the ten largest theoretical physicists of our time, calculated the density of matter corresponding to vacuum energy. He got it: 1095 g/cm3. For comparison: the density of nuclear matter is 1014 g/cm3, that is, it contains 1081 times less energy. And what nuclear matter is can be seen from a common metaphor: one cubic centimeter of it weighs as much as a hundred battleships. Comparing the results of Zeldovich and Wheeler, we can say that 1095 g/cm3 is not the maximum, but the lowest possible level.

Now you understand that the energy of nuclear power plants, atomic bombs in comparison with the energy of a vacuum is like an ant in comparison with an elephant.

This is why I associate the work of vortex heat generators with the removal of energy from the vacuum: it simply has nowhere else to come from.



“AiF”: - It turns out that humanity has only touched upon the energy of an elephant, despite the fact that nuclear energy can be attributed to the world of ants. What prospects does this new energy reveal?

A.A.:- Well, of course, you understand that compared to the figure of 1081 - this could be the gain in the transition from nuclear to vacuum energy - the 2.5 times energy savings achieved in Tver are just a baby step. Unfortunately, when thermal energy is converted into electrical energy, the efficiency is too low, it will simply cancel out the gain from the high efficiency of the vortex plant. But I am confident that it is possible to improve the quality of conversion of heat into electricity within the next few years. And then, of course, autonomous power plants will appear that do not need subsoil reserves.

  1. Number of enemies destroyed (frags);
  2. Damage dealt to enemies;
  3. Detected enemies;
  4. Allied damage to enemies you detect;
  5. Points for capturing an enemy base;
  6. Points for shooting down the capture of an allied base;
  7. State of the art.

The level of equipment has a strong influence, because in one battle on a Tier X tank you can deal as much damage as a Tier I tank would do in 50 battles. And since damage and frags are the most important factors in calculating the performance rating, improving statistics and especially the level of play is easier on high-level tanks (although there are more inexperienced players in the sandbox).
