What is Internet speed?

Internet speed is the number of bits of information transmitted per second (measured in 1000 bits per second).

Typically all tests measure incoming speed(the speed at which your device receives data from the Internet to access the network) and outgoing speed(the speed at which your device sends data to the Internet to access the network).

As a rule, these figures vary greatly: the incoming speed is much higher than the outgoing speed. So, for example, my incoming speed according to the tariff is about 6 megabits per second, and the outgoing speed is only 512 kilobits per second.

When conducting Internet speed tests on both your iPad and computer, you should disable all applications that can theoretically connect to the Internet. It is recommended to carry out tests several times (I usually do 3 times) in order to more or less accurately determine the average real Internet speed.

Internet speed may vary depending on various factors (or maybe not). A typical example is that everything works well during the day, but in the evening, when everyone comes home from work, everything starts to get “stupid.” You can measure your Internet speed and see for yourself. This, of course, is unpleasant and the provider is to blame, but usually providers play it safe and it is clearly stated in their contract that they advertise the maximum speed possible on your tariff.

Usually, when measuring Internet speed, we need to select a server. SpeedTest X offers several servers located in different parts of the world. In the program, you can select a region, and then a city in the region and start the test.

Therefore, it is worth considering that the maximum possible Internet speed will be if you choose the city closest to you. My maximum speed was observed in Bangkok (I live in a neighboring city) and Singapore. Residents of Russia, in theory, will have the maximum if they choose Moscow. In theory, this maximum speed should be considered your real Internet speed.

But in the application there are statistics that show the average value for tests from around the world. Interesting, but nothing more. :)

There are plenty of analogues of this program in the App Store. They are all basically the same. I tried several of them, but settled on SpeedTest X, which I recommend. I was even a little surprised by the negative reviews about the application... It’s a rare case when I disagree with them (although there are reviews in the App Store for the old version of the application).
